' Hartlepool United '

Hartlepool could go into administration unless they can raise £200,000 in the next fortnight.

One of my best mates in a Hartlepool fan of over 30 years standing. He has informed me tonight that they need to raise some £200k over the next 2 weeks to stave off the threat of administration. You may well recall that a late Newport County winner on the last day of last season relegated Hartlepool to the National League after some 90 odd years in the Football League.

My pal has been a regular visitor to watch the Bluebirds for many a year and similarly, when playing in the south, I have gone with him to support 'Pools' at the likes of Swindon, Plymouth, Exeter and Bristol Rovers. Hartlepool are very much one of the 'old school' teams we use to play ( like Rochdale ) in the bad old days, and some of you might well recall Earnie scoring his 1st ever goal with an overhead kick for the Bluebirds away at the Victoria Ground.

When the boot was on the other foot and Middlesboro were in financial problems and had their ground closed in the mid 80's,Hartlepool allowed them to play at the Victoria Ground. It is now payback time and I understand Boro fans are now going to support Pools at the Victoria Ground when Boro are away at QPR a week on Saturday. I am something of a dinosaur on IT matters - so cannot put the link on here - but there is a crowd funding/ just giving page where people can pledge funds to support Hartlepool through this difficult period ( Administration would mean a 10 point deduction - which could relegate them again to the National League North. Bearing in mind they were 8 mins away from the Championship in the play off final of 2005 at the Millennium against Sheffield Wednesday in front of almost 60k fans, this would be a sad demise.

I am sure Jeff Stelling is sure to highlight this over the coming days, but if you are able to pledge any support to the just giving page ( £15k raised in 2 days to date ), this would be much appreciated. :ayatollah:

Hartlepool United crisis: Jeff Stelling welcomes Middlesbrough fans' support amid club's administration threat
The Pools president and Sky Sports anchorman admits it's great to see North-east football supporters uniting in a bid to save the club

By Jonathon Taylor

11 JAN 2018

Hartlepool United president and Sky Sports anchorman Jeff Stelling admits it's great to see North-east football supporters trying to unite in a bid to save the club.

Boro fans have been quick to show support for their under-fire neighbours amid claims that Pools may be just a fortnight away from a disastrous administration.

Back in 1986 when Ayresome Park was padlocked, Boro faced expulsion from the Football League if they did not fulfil their opening Division Three fixture against Port Vale and Hartlepool stepped in to allow the game to be staged at Victoria Park.

Now 32 years on, it is Hartlepool who face a race against time to avoid potential administration - and hoards of Boro fans have pledged to turn out for a “Save Pools Day” when Craig Harrison's side host Wrexham on 20 January.

That show of unity has been applauded by lifelong Pools fan Stelling, who hopes to see Victoria Park packed-out for next weekend's vital clash.

"As a fan it’s alarming, dismaying; it’s the worst thing that can happen to your football club,” Stelling told the Hartlepool Mail.

1986: Against Port Vale at the Victoria Ground

Boro fans urged to help pay 1986 debt to Hartlepool

“I have been going since the sixties. Of course there has been other crises but certainly in recent times this is the worst. I feel very much for the staff who work there.”

“It’s great that the supporters are rallying round. Anything they can do has got to be good.

“Let’s fill the ground as we did for the Doncaster game last season and get the same sort of atmosphere going as we did then.

“Let’s put some money into the coffers and get some points on he board. Both those are going to be important.”

There is a sizeable Boro contingent in the Pools ranks this season with ex-defender Harrison in charge, while he is assisted by former long-serving Hurworth coach Paul Jenkins and one-time Riverside regular Matthew Bates.

Fans hope to raise enough cash through “Save Pools Day” and a series of fund-raisers to keep the club going until the ongoing ownership issue can be resolved and new investment secured.

Hartlepool United vs Wrexham: Ticket scramble and Middlesbrough travel offer as fans rally round - Gazette Live

Friday 12th Jan 2018

Troubled Hartlepool are heading for a sell out in their home game with Wrexham as big-hearted Boro fans respond en masse in their hour of need.

Supporters have been snapping up tickets for the National League clash on January 20 in solidarity with the club that lent Boro their ground during the 1986 liquidation crisis.

And in an generous gesture, two Teesside coach firms have offered Boro fans free travel to the game.

Pools could go into administration unless they can raise £200,000 in the next fortnight.

The cash is needed to pay players’ wages and other bills needed to put a team on the pitch and run the ground while the rudderless club resolve their ownership issues.

Boro fans were quick to respond to social media appeals for help, not least because they remember how Pools lent them the Victoria Ground in August 1986 to stage their Division Three opener against Port Vale.

Ayresome Park was still padlocked while Steve Gibson’s consortium tried to persuade the liquidators, the creditors and the Football League to agree a rescue package and had the fixture not been fulfilled Boro would have gone out of existence.

So when Pools fans appealed for other supporters to rally round and help, Teessiders with long memories were the quickest to act.

They have been buying tickets for the game against Wrexham - Boro are away at QPR - and donating to an online Just Giving appeal.

Dave Roberts, the former Century Radio matchday commentator who now fronts dedicated Boro fans channel RedArmyTV, has been helping co-ordinate the efforts.

“The whole thing has been a spontaneous fan-led initiative and it says a lot about the generosity and the memories of Boro fans,” he said.

“We were approached by two coach companies - Delta and Coatham - separately offering free travel if we can organise it and a van hire firm wants to help too.

“The owner of Coatham Coaches, Micky Hodgson, actually used to be on Boro’s books and also played at Pools when Brian Clough was the boss so that a nice touch.

“I’ve spoken to Hartlepool United and they have been staggered by the response from Boro fans. They are very appreciative.

“The ticket office have been inundated by people ringing up for tickets over the last 24 hours and they are overwhelming Boro fans from Middlesbrough and Teesside.

“I think Boro fans remember what Pools did to help us in 1986 and want to repay the favour. We all know how close we came to losing our own club and what a disaster that would have been.

“But if anyone is thinking about going they better get a move on because it is heading for a sell-out.”

Dave will be looking at the logistics of how to allocate the coach travel and dealing with the other offers and fundraising ideas in the next few days.

Hartlepool United have issued a plea for potential investors to come forward and save the club.

Pools need to find in the region of £200,000 by January 25, in order to cover the players’ wages, as well as those who work behind the scenes at the club. A number of bills, including a one to the HMRC, must also be covered later this month.

Nice to see the football family rally around. I know a lot of Bluebirds fans who went up to support Merthyr a few weeks ago who were in a similar predicament

One of the best scenes I have seen is when Notts County went through a similar thing. Being a local I went to support them the next game when it was announced. To my amazement there were 1000 Forest fans there as well.

Rivalry between local clubs is all part of the football scene and it would be a great lost if it was not there. Putting differences aside so the other has a chance to survive is what makes the football supporter great.

On his wages Jeff Stelling could bail them out himself. I dont recall him showing much compassion to the Kounty last year when he though they had lost it......

Still I hope annold club like Hartlepool survive in this day when stupid money is paid for one player and his wages are higher than what little clubs make in 5 years.
