Friday 23rd February 2018

Warnock responds to reports of promotin bonus

NEIL WARNOCK:

"You have to take it with a pinch of salt. I read in the same report that Leicester has £6.7 or something but inflation, eh? Money doesn’t come into it. In the Championship, you don’t think about it, it’s just about getting the points on board."

Madine the difference at Portman Road :thumbright: :thumbright:

NEIL WARNOCK:

"I couldn’t wait to get him on at half-time. I kept telling him before half-time to keep warming up and he did brilliantly."

Warnock responds to Lee Johnson's atmosphere jibes

NEIL WARNOCK:

"You know, Lee (Johnson) is like his dad. He talks a good game and I don’t listen to much he says. I’m sure it will be a decent atmosphere, we’ll try and do our best for him.

" SEAN MORRISON / LEE PELTIER / ARON GUNNARSSON / JOE BENNETT / LOIC DAMOUR "

NEIL WARNOCK:

“Sean Morrison looked a bit stiff and we didn’t want to risk him with the big game on Sunday," added the City boss. "Lee Peltier is out for a month, but we’ve got Craig Bryson back, and Loïc Damour had 90 minutes under his belt.

"Joe Bennett missed out with an upset stomach, but hopefully we’ll have players like Aron Gunnarsson back in contention soon - he will be very important for us towards the end of the season.

NEIL WARNOCK:

“We’re going to keep going and take each game as it comes now. No extra motivation is needed for the Bristol City game- it’s going to be a cracking atmosphere, and a cracking game.”

:bluebird: :bluebird: ALL NEIL WARNOCKS UPDATES WILL BE BELOW " :bluebird: :bluebird:

Good news on Morrison :thumbright: :thumbright:

NEIL WARNOCK:

"It’s not as bad as I thought it would be. I thought that knowing our luck it would be six or seven weeks. The scan didn’t show anything, it’s a grade one so it’s a matter of days rather than weeks. It’s probably too soon for Sunday but I wouldn’t write him off knowing him. He was walking better yesterday and I think the scan results helped him as well."

Latest on Traore and Bennett

NEIL WARNOCK:

"Traore will be struggling. He has a little bit of a thigh problem. Joe Bennett had sickness and I’m expecting him to train, if not today then tomorrow. He’s a lot better and we’ve managed to restrict that. I think there’s only one lad has developed symptoms which isn’t too bad so that’s why I sent him home from Ipswich, to keep him away from the lads."

Paterson 'not training yet'

NEIL WARNOCK:

"Paterson isn’t training yet. I don’t know, that’s the answer to that. I don’t know if he’ll be okay for Sunday or not. He will definitely be okay for Brentford, I think. It’s not a serious thing, the brusing’s just come out and It’s just a matter of pain threshold for him, nothing serious, it’s his ankle. I don’t know about that until tomorrow.'

Lee Johnson turns up the heat ahead of the Severnside derby

Lee Johnson chucked something of a grenade at his press conference yesterday ahead of the Severnside derby, having a very sly poke at the Bluebirds’ match attendances this season.

LEE JOHNSON:

“I don’t think the atmosphere will be too intimidating. It’s a big stadium and that’s the surprising thing, looking at it. They’ve had an unbelievable season and there are still empty seats.”

How this squad compares to previous promotions

NEIL WARNOCK:

"When you have that many promotions, you look back at your squads - they all have reunions. This group will have a reunion whether they go up or not."

"I heard some of the players were out but they were just out with their families enjoying themselves with a glass of wine, watching the boxing."

Gunnarsson and Bryson making progress

NEIL WARNOCK:

"Peltier is out for a month, a minimum of a month. Gunnarsson was training on the grass yesterday. We’re pleased with his progress, which is another plus. Bryson has reported no after effects, neither has Gary Madine. They’re getting on alright."

Warnock still revelling in Ipswich victory

NEIL WARNOCK:

"It was probably as good as any this season given the circumstances because we just didn’t know where we were during the day on Wednesday. "

"It was such an important game and we ended up with players playing out of position and they really did well. I know it was scrappy game and I know they were trying hard for Mick (McCarthy)."

Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock's brilliant responses to Bristol City's Severnside derby ticket allocation and Lee Johnson's atmosphere jibe -

Friday 23rd February 2018

Neil Warnock admits he would give Bristol City fans as few as 400 tickets for the Severnside derby clash with Cardiff City on Sunday.

A bumper crowd is expected for the lunchtime kick-off at Cardiff City Stadium, with both sides firmly in the hunt for promotion ahead of what already promises to be a mouth-watering encounter.

However, the visitors were less than impressed with their ticket allocation, with only 1,481 fans set to be in the away end on Sunday following the South Wales Police request for an extraordinary Safety Advisory Group (SAG) meeting.

But speaking in his press conference ahead of the meeting between the sides in the Welsh capital, Warnock delivered a tongue-in-cheek response when it came to giving his verdict on how many tickets the visitors would get if he had the final say.

"If I had my way, they would probably get 400," said Warnock.

"But it does make for a good derby when you get the opposition in their numbers.

"When we went to Bristol, I thought our fans were fabulous, even when we had 10 men. They rallied us on and we ended up being the better team in the end of second half.

"But that’s what derbies are about, a bit of hot air, things being shouted. As long as there’s no trouble, I hate it when there is trouble.

"We had a police man die of a heart attack because of the trouble, didn’t we? By all means have a go at me, managers and fans but keep it like that. Let’s not have any physical trouble."

The Robins' boss Lee Johnson ramped up the heat ahead of the derby match by stating that he is not expecting an intimidating atmosphere at the home of the Bluebirds on Sunday, adding that there have been many "empty seats" at Cardiff City Stadium this season.

But Warnock was quick to dismiss Johnson's comments, comparing his opposite number to the Bristol City manager's father Gary who the Yorkshireman has had a famous rivalry with for a number of years.

"It’s great for the fans, they’ve said things about us and our fans have said things about them, the manager's the same, so it’s great isn’t it," added the Cardiff boss.

"You want that in derbies. You know, Lee is like his dad. He talks a good game and I don’t listen to much he says.

"I’m sure it will be a decent atmosphere, we’ll try and do our best for him.

"They were very fortunate that Mike Jones had a bad day with whistle up there (during Cardiff's 2-1 defeat to the Robins in November) because their lad should have been sent off for a second yellow before (Omar) Bogle went, so they had a bit of luck on that day but that didn’t stop us conceding the goals.

"If we concede goals like that we will lose again."

NEIL WARNOCK:

Warnock not looking at the table

"I think they are looking at the 16 clean sheets. We’ve always got it up on the wall and we have 15 now."

"Somebody made the comment that we have two points now than all of last season, I never realised, last season was all about climbing up the table, it was fabulous to finish where we did and it’s fabulous that we’re already past that in February."

City full of leaders

NEIL WARNOCK:

"I’m very fortunate that in our dressing room, we have three or four captains. They are good people. I don’t have to worry because they will sort it out. There aren’t many of them left and that’s why Steve Bruce signed John Terry because John will do his job for him.

These players aren’t easy on the eye and you forget that to a manager - it’s like I always know Joe Ralls will get an 8/10 before he puts his boots on and Sean Morrison is like that.

You have match winners who will have either a five or a nine but if you can get a nucleus - we have a few sevens and eights this season."

West Brom and player behaviour

NEIL WARNOCK:

"I brought up the West Brom thing with the lads. We had a chat last week and I reminded them that there will be people looking for stories between now and the end of the season. Just don’t give them a reason.

When I heard about them drinking and then I made my own enquiries and I had a smile on my face when I discovered they were all together. The wives as well, they are a great bunch of ladies, but I said to them, you must only be marrying these lot because they are footballers! [not because of their looks]."

NEIL WARNOCK:

“For Sean Morrison It’s not as bad as I thought it would be," said Warnock.

"I thought that knowing our luck it would be six or seven weeks.

“The scan didn’t show anything, it’s a grade one so it’s a matter of days rather than weeks. It’s probably too soon for Sunday but I wouldn’t write him off knowing him. He was walking better yesterday, and I think the scan results helped him as well.”

The Bluebirds also had to plough on without any natural full-backs against Ipswich after losing Armand Traore and Joe Bennett in ‘a nightmare 48 hours’ .

But while Traore looks set to remain sidelined, there is some good news for Bennett.

“Traore will be struggling, he has a little bit of a thigh problem," added the Cardiff boss.

“Joe Bennett had sickness and I’m expecting him to train, if not today then tomorrow. He’s a lot better and we’ve managed to restrict that.

“I think there’s only one lad has developed symptoms which isn’t too bad so that’s why I sent him home from Ipswich, to keep him away from the lads.”

That’s not the last of Warnock’s worries either. He could well be without in-form Scotsman Callum Paterson, who also missed the trip to Ipswich.

But the Bluebirds’ faithful will be pleased to discover that the injury isn’t one of real concern.

“Paterson isn’t training yet,” revealed Warnock.

"I don’t know if he’ll be okay for Sunday or not.

“He will definitely be okay for Brentford, I think. It’s not a serious thing, the bruising’s just come out and It’s just a matter of pain threshold for him, nothing serious, it’s his ankle. I don’t know about that until tomorrow.”
