According to Abendblatt, newly promoted EPL side Cardiff City are close to signing Sven Schipplock on a free transfer. His contract expires in 6 weeks.

Cardiff City closing in on Hamburg striker Sven Schipplock on free transfer – reports

By Jamie Kemble

Tuesday 15th May 2018

Cardiff City are reportedly close to signing Hamburg striker Sven Schipplock on a free transfer following the Bluebirds’ promotion to the Premier League.

The German outfit were recently relegated from the Bundesliga on the weekend, and the 29 year-old could become Neil Warnock’s first signing this summer.

Schipplock has made just 21 appearances since his move in 2015, which cost £1.75 million but he has failed to make a proper impact, failing to score at the Volksparkstadion.

And according to the Hamburger Adendblatt, Cardiff are favourites to secure the striker’s signature – he has just six weeks left on his contract.

He has spent this season on loan at Darmstadt 98, where he has registered two goals in 23 appearances for the 2. Bundesliga outfit.

Before joining Hamburg, Schipplock spent four years at Hoffenheim, scoring 16 goals in 84 appearances – his finest spell came at Stuttgart II, where he scored 31 times in 89 outings.

Although his goal-scoring ratio doesn’t seem impressive, if there is one player who can get the best out of the German-born striker, it is Neil Warnock.

Cardiff will be keen to improve their attack, with versatile midfielder Callum Paterson ended up as their top scorer during the 2017/2018 Sky Bet Championship campaign, after he netted 10 goals for Warnock’s men, despite missing the first few months of the season through injury.

If Cardiff are to survive next season, having strength in depth will be key and Warnock has already spoke of how keen he is to get business done early on in this window, and Schipplock could be the first of a few additions for the Yorkshireman.

Warnock confirmed at the promotion parade yesterday that he was looking forward to the Premier League and has already been given a budget to work with by the Cardiff City board.

Could be just journo bullcrap though. :banghead:
Edmund: Have you ever been to Wales, Baldrick?
Baldrick: No, but I've often thought that I'd like to.
Edmund: Well don't. It's a ghastly place. Huge gangs of tough, sinewy men roam the valleys terrifying people with their close-harmony singing

Every agent has a standard attack when trying to get more money for shit players.

"Squad player relegated from European top flight league = immediately touted as being of interest to team just promoted to European top flight league.

They must be good right? They were in the top flight league.

It's like the worst propaganda and fake news rolled into one.

Such as Tomlin, Richardson, Wildschut and Chamakh? Even the great God Warnock can make a mistake in the transfer market.

Wasn't 3 of those freebies or very short contracts? So very little money wasted? Even tomlin may get money back from forest or he may figure in premiership! so whilst looks like NW did bad business could say was shrewd in way it was done

Definitely not a star-player....

Lewis Holtby is the Hamburg player to watch. And their goalkeeper Julian Pollersbeck.
Holtby is a UK/German national, former Germany U21 and full international. Pollersbeck started the season as their #2 but gained the starting job. Very consistent, the German U21 keeper is on the list of a few Bundesliga sides

Freedies and short contracts weren't the issue it was whether Warnock would bring in someone who wouldn't enhance the squad. The 4 players I quoted show that yes at times he does bring players who don't work out.

That said there isn't a manager alive who hasn't bought a duff.

Probably rubbish as usual, 90% of Warnock signings are not the names mentioned by the press, they have to just guess because Warnock won't tell them and has the club tight and not leaking shit !!!

Cardiff City targeting Hamburg striker Sven Schipplock on free transfer — reports - Wales Online

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=196548 :bluebird:

15/05/18

Cardiff City will look to make German forward Sven Schipplock their first signing since winning promotion to the Premier League — according to newspaper reports.

German media have claimed the 29-year-old Hamburg striker, who is out of contract in the summer, will join the Bluebirds at the expiry of his HSV contract at the end of June.

Schipplock failed to find the net in the 2017/18 season as the German side dropped out of the Bundesliga for the first time in their history.

Before that, he spent the 2016/17 campaign on loan at Darmstadt, scoring three times in 25 appearances.

He also lists Hoffenheim and Stuttgart among his former clubs and is now reportedly being monitored by British sides, including Cardiff.

Neil Warnock is expected to bolster his forward ranks this summer, but a move for Schipplock would be a surprise given the veteran boss' indications he would only delve into markets he knew.

Cardiff are expected to sign upwards of five players to boost their survival bid next season. A striker is thought to be a priority as Warnock seeks support for frontman Kenneth Zohore, with Gary Madine still goalless since his £5million January move from Bolton.

This strikes me as absolute garbage. someone said we were shopping in Home Bargains - more like visiting the recycling skip!
On the other hand you could well see NW signing Mc Arthur from Palace.

Because it’s made up, probably by his agent, he has more chance of signing for Merthyr.

Why are we judging a player none of us have seen play?

Do you think Warnock hasn't scouted him?

Also pretty much everything said here was said about Zohore.....

Difference is this guy's got a record at top level,a piss poor one.Zahore cracked it at championship and now its time for him to step up to the highest one.I know which one I'd back.

The difference between Zohore and this guy is Zohore was 19 when we signed him and was regarded as a hot prospect. This guy is 29 and has done nothing for the last few seasons, his scoring record make Guonogbe look like a goal machine. We have signed some duffers from Europe in the last few seasons but at least they were youngish and looked like they might be prospects. Just looking at this guys record you can tell he would be crap.

We should be concentrating on getting the likes of Andre Ward and James McArthur in rather than this type of Carlos Kickaball who nobody has ever heard of and sounds crap.
