Canaries Boss planning to splash the cash after Murphy sale

Daniel Farke is confident Norwich City will soon be able to bolster their squad, following the big-money sales of Josh Murphy and James Maddison.

The only new signing announced so far is Argentinian attacker Emi Buendia, joining from Spanish side Getafe in a deal worth around £1.5million.

Academy product Murphy has since been sold to Premier League new boys Cardiff for a deal worth up to £11m and player of the season Maddison to top-flight Leicester in a club-record sale which could be worth £24m.

“It’s quite obvious that we lost some quality players with Josh Murphy, Marley Watkins and James Maddision having to leave the club, as well as our loan players returning to their clubs,” Farke told City’s official website.

“The last few days have been important for the financial future of the club because it has been very necessary to sell players.

“But now it’s important to pay attention to getting the strongest squad that we can get. I’m confident we will have some additions soon.”

The German coach is working with sporting director Stuart Webber to try and engineer a Championship improvement after finishing 14th at the end of his first season in charge, amid huge changes on and off the pitch as the club adjusts to the financial realities of life outside the Premier League.

While Buendia joins Scotland international midfielder Kenny McLean as a new face, the Canaries are expected to try and refresh their forward department after a disappointing campaign in front of goal thwarted play-off hopes.

St Pauli striker Marvin Duksch had been touted with a City move, but the Bundesliga Two top scorer is poised to join newly-promoted Bundesliga side Fortuna Dusseldorf. Reports in Germany on Thursday night claimed Fortuna had agreed personal terms and are in advanced negotiations with FC Pauli over a deal that could rise to 2.5m euros.

“He said early that he only wants to join Fortuna,” said Dusseldorf chief Robert Schafer, quoted in German tabloid Bild. “That was a strong signal. We have now reached agreement with the player. We are also on the right path with the talks with FC St Pauli.”

Wolves winger Ben Marshall is another to be linked, with a £1.5m deal touted after a successful loan at Millwall
