Mark Hughes (Southampton) - 3/1 to be sacked

Southampton set to fire Mark Hughes if they don't win next match -

Tuesday 6th November 2018

Mark Hughes is facing the sack as Southampton manager if they fail to win Saturday's home match against Watford .

Sunday's 6-1 thrashing away to champions Manchester City means Saints still have just one league victory this season — against Crystal Palace on September 1st — and have managed to score only once from open play in the top flight since the middle of that month.

Some supporters are fed up with the brand of football served up by ex-Southampton striker Hughes, who saved them from the drop last season after replacing Mauricio Pellegrini in March — two months on from his own sacking by relegation-bound Premier League rivals Stoke.

The board are understood to be ready to act if there is anything less than victory at the weekend.

Top of the list of potential replacements are Sam Allardyce and David Moyes, while a popular choice among the supporters is former Saints manager Gordon Strachan.

Leonardo Jardim, recently ditched by Monaco, had been high on the board’s wish-list but the Portuguese now looks set for a move to the Chinese Super League, with Beijing Guoan a possibility.

Sunday’s embarrassment at the Etihad left Saints just two points above the relegation zone.

Southampton may have ended their barren run in front of goal with Danny Ings' penalty on the half-hour, but it never felt like changing the game as City had already scored three times in the game's first 18 minutes.

"That is the game gone right from the outset," said Hughes, a former Blues boss. "Any other work you have prepared and the game plan you want to implement goes out the window.

"It is difficult when you are down. You can't overcommit because Man City have the ability to run over the top of you and it gets even more embarrassing. Six-one is not a result we take any pride in but the fact we were trying to create chances when the game was gone shows the character was good."

Hope not cause he’s our blessing in disguise he will be guiding the saints down to championship if he stays.

Big Sam will no doubt do a job keeping any club up, to like hope he would be available if Neil was to leave

thankfully for us, southampton's problems are not the manager, they are structural, and they are on borrowed time. they have consistently sold their best players, and replaced them with inferior players. over the long term, as swansea showed, this is unsustainable in the premier league, with big money being spent by rivals.

I agree, and sides can do it for years but eventually that gem you sell gets replaced by a flop not another superb find and the wheels soon come off. Thought they would go last season, they will be in a fight with us Huddersfield Fulham and the geordies. It’s 3 from that 5 100%

thats the key - a poor season when you are an average middle of the road team, and you're in a relegation battle.

reminds me of aston villa. they kept on chopping and changing the manager, yet failed to see that it was clearly the way the club was being run that was the problem - same with sunderland. eventually your luck runs out.

newcastle will not get relegated in my opinion. they've had a poor start, but are a better team than southampton. they are very solid and will pick up unexpected points here and there, which you cannot say of the others.

Swansea are a great example of this...got totally wrapped up in the Swansea way where anyone of value could be sold and replaced cheaper ,got away with it for a few years but was never going to last no matter how much that retard insisted on here that it would..

just seen that les reed, their director of football has now left the club.

more evidence that the powers that be at southampton are struggling to see the wood for the trees. there is no quick fix for a long term lack of investment in the team.

obviously this doesnt stop them sacking a manager a season, in the hope of eventually finding a miracle worker.
