Key talking points

Here’s a recap of the main talking points from his press conference:

Warnock admits Cardiff are his “farewell” club and he doesn’t anticipate managing elsewhere in the future.

Joe Ralls will be in the matchday squad this weekend.

Kenneth Zohore and Jazz Richards will miss the clash with Brighton.

Thursday 8th November 2018

Cardiff will be without suspended midfielder Harry Arter against Chris Hughton's side after he picked up his fifth booking of the season against the Foxes while Joe Ralls - who has served his three-game ban after being sent off at Tottenham -

As for Brighton, they’ll be without long-term absentees Pascal Gross and Davy Propper for the game in South Wales.

NEIL WARNOCK:

Neil Warnock on Brighton manager Chris Hughton

He’s underrated, Chris. His achievements speak to themselves and sometimes you’ve got to be careful what you wish for. Newcastle were in a super position when they got rid of him. He’s bad for us as managers, he’s so nice! He gives us a bad reputation.”

Is Brighton a must win game?

NEIL WARNOCK:

“No I don’t think you’d say that. But every game is winnable for us until Christmas if we have a good day. If we didn’t win it wouldn’t be the end of the world, but it’s one we one to win. Certain papers will put different slants on it but that’s how it is.”

Injury update on Joe Ralls and other

NEIL WARNOCK:

“He’s (Joe Ralls) training, he’s not been able to do any training until this week. He had a tough day yesterday and we’ll see how he is. He’ll definitely be in the squad.”

“Jazz Richards and Zohore are both out too, Zohore’s had a calf injury. That’s the difference with the top teams, they’ve got Under-23 internationals to come into the squad, whereas we’ve only got 17 or 18 players fit at the moment. That shows the divide.”

Neil Warnock on Cardiff's fortunes so far

I think we’ve improved nearly every game since the Bournemouth game and we’ve played far more football than people give us credit for. But it’s about getting the balance, we have changed and now we need a bit of luck. My wife says my luck is changing from today, so I can’t argue with my wife!”

Warnock on being back to normal after the emotional scenes of last weekend and Cardiff dropping back into the relegation zone.

NEIL WARNOCK:

“It was a difficult week last week for everybody, certain players felt it more than others. At the end of the week to come away with nothing was a huge disappointment”

“The one consistent thing is the training has been fantastic, they’re a great bunch a lads. We know we’re a bit limited but I can’t fault the attitude and that’s our best chance with the squad we’ve got - to give us a little bit more.”

“They can’t do that in effort, just concentration at moments. We can’t lose a game like last week with a lack of concentration, if it’s a wonderful goal I can take my hat off.”

Neil Warnock is asked if he would retire if he kept Cardiff in the Premier League

NEIL WARNOCK:

When you get to my age, you can’t look beyond the next few weeks or months. Life changes so quickly, you can’t plan ahead. I would love to keep Cardiff up and stabilise them again. You have to drive yourself and I keep fit on my bike, and my health will decide how long I stay in the job. I don’t think that will change. I look at the club as a farewell club (for me) but I don’t think I’ll be leaving and going to another club.”

Warnock's message to the Cardiff City fans

“We’ve been on a rollercoaster ride and they’ve lifted us whenever we’ve been down. They’re going to play their part. We’re better when we’re underdogs and it’s great how the fans support us. Whenever I meet people they always say ‘thankyou for putting my club back together’.”

Warnock on his Cardiff landmark

“I can’t see me managing at 100 years old, maybe I’ll be the first one! It’s an achievement as I feel what I’ve done in 100 games is the best in my career. To be playing in the Premier League after 100 games is a minor miracle and it pleases me that the fans have been unbelievable - it’s almost like they’re working for me, like they’re on the staff! “

“And the fans believe we have an outside chance of staying up and I don’t see why we can’t finish above three. If it wasn’t for the fans it wouldn’t be the same situation. Working for them has been one of the happiest times of my life - and my job’s not finished yet.”

Lack of goals from set-pieces

“They’re cuter and referees don’t see the blocking. They see Sean when he breathes on them but it’s amazing what they actually miss.”

“Last week he was hauled down and the referee is looking eight yards away!
While set-pieces were vital last season, but we’re twice the team we were now, playing a lot more football but we’ve got to toughen up at the back.”

Match facts

Cardiff and Brighton have never faced before in the top-flight of English football, making this the fourth new top-flight fixture this season (Bournemouth vs Cardiff, Brighton vs Fulham and Bournemouth vs Fulham the others).

Brighton have lost only one of their last 11 league matches against Cardiff (W3 D7), a 1-4 defeat in February 2016 at Cardiff City Stadium in the Championship.

Cardiff vs Brighton will become the 100th different fixture to have been played in all four divisions of the English Football League.

Cardiff are without a clean sheet in their last eight Premier League games, shipping 22 goals in total and losing seven of those matches (W1).

Brighton have won just one of their last 19 Premier League matches away from home (D5 L13), with that victory coming against Newcastle last month.

33% of Brighton’s Premier League away victories have been in Wales (1/3 – 1-0 vs Swansea in November 2017).

Martin Atkinson will take charge of this weekend’s game at Cardiff City Stadium.

I have read Warnocks comments and I'm beginning to think he is delusional,of course Saturday's game is a must win game, being bottom of the table has nothing to do what so ever with bad luck,Warnock says it's all about balance, what has thumping the ball upfield hoping Paterson gets his head on it to do with balance, please Mr Warnock do yourself and most of the fans a favour and just go

The explanation behind Kenneth Zohore's absence as Neil Warnock drops hint over Joe Ralls' fitness

Cardiff City injury latest ahead of Brighton clash in the Premier League

Cardiff City injury latest ahead of Brighton clash in the Premier League

Kenneth Zohore missed Cardiff City's 1-0 defeat to Leicester with a calf injury that will keep him sidelined for this weekend's clash with Brighton.

But the Bluebirds are set to be boosted by the return of Joe Ralls, who has been out with both injury and suspension for the past three matches.

Jazz Richards (hamstring), Nathaniel Mendez-Laing (knee) and Lee Peltier (shoulder) are the others ruled out with injury, although Neil Warnock revealed Ralls and Danny Ward could return.

Ralls was sent off against Tottenham Hotspur and incurred a three-match ban but he's also been struggling with a chipped bone in his knee.

"He’s training, he’s been out with this knee problem and he's eligible to come in on Saturday," said Warnock on the midfielder.

"He's not been able to do any training until this week. He's a fit lad and he had a tough day yesterday and we’ll see how he is. He’ll definitely be in the squad on Saturday."

Ralls return to the starting XI would be a welcome one with Harry Arter missing after picking up five yellow cards and a one-match suspension.

"I’m really disappointed all over on that, that he couldn’t curb himself but I've got to live with that. I suppose that’s why I got him on loan," said Warnock on the combative on-loan Bournemouth star.

Warnock then revealed the reason behind Zohore's previously unexplained absence from the matchday squad against Leicester.

"Zohore’s had a calf injury which hasn't helped us," he said.

"That’s the difference with the top teams, they’ve got Under-23 internationals to come into the squad, whereas we’ve only got 17 or 18 with the injuries we've got. That shows the massive divide really."
