10.01.19

Cardiff City Football Club can confirm that Anthony Pilkington has left the Bluebirds by mutual agreement.

Having joined us in 2014, Anthony went on to make 111 appearances for Cardiff City FC, scoring 23 goals and contributing eight assists.
Although signed for his attributes as a wide player, Anthony would later adopt a centre-forward role, scoring a number of key goals for the club. His last-minute equaliser at Sheffield United during our promotion campaign of 2017-18 will be fondly remembered for years to come, whilst his overall contribution during the 2015-16 campaign accounted for 23% of the side’s total goals.
We’d like to thank Anthony for his efforts during the past four and a half years and wish him the very best for the next step in his career.

Wigan closing in on Pilkington

The East Anglian Daily Times claims Ipswich Town have missed out on signing Anthony Pilkington, with the Irishman reportedly snubbing the Tractor Boys in favour of a move to Wigan Athletic.

Pilkington latest

Anthony Pilkington looks set to be the next one out the door at the Cardiff City Stadium.

The Daily Mail claims the Irishman is closing in on a move to Wigan Athletic in this window, while the Ipswich Star appears to suggest that the Tractor Boys are still in talks over a potential move themselves.

Sad to see him go. A good player who could've done a job in the Premier league. More effective than Reid, especially from the bench.
It was probably his wages that went against him in the end, rather than performances.

Always tried and was unlucky at times.
25 man squad went against him, would have picked him before Reid every time.

A great servant to the club but definitely time to move onto pastures new as his wages were too high, apparently very well-liked by all staff and players, and he’s also well respected and liked by parents involved in the youth side of the club as Anthony’s boy plays football for the Cardiff City nippers, my friend who's boy plays for them regularly speaks to him and said he’s a lovely guy with plenty of time for people.

All the best Pilky

Great if we can get him off the wage bill without a pay off but we will see.

I'd be amazed if he didn't get some kind of pay off. Mutual consent they have said which suggests a pay off to me.

Good luck to him.

good attitude but 4 years here and no one knows what position he plays. would come in fill a gap, look decent for 2/3 games and then become a 5/10 player until left out again. flattered to deceive.

i do wish him all the best as he seems genuine but i will not miss him.

Totally agree, not enough pace to play wide and not physical or enough pace to play upfront. Good sub for a few games not much else.

To me, Pilks should have been in our 25-man PL squad this season being technically better and more adaptable than some attackers included in it. He was a fine servant to the Club. I wish him well.

If Pilks was on £20k/wk the 6 months remaining on his contract would have cost £500,000 to pay off.

Not necessarily. May have come to an agreement. He has signed on an 18 month deal. Say that’s 8,000 a week it’s only a shortfall of 12,000 over those 6 months and that’s made up over the next year.

Anthony Pilkington played his part,,, not a legend, by any sense of the imagination, but when called upon he did what he had to do. A decent player, allbe it a bit injury prone.

The time had come for him to finaly leave,,, & I salute his professionalisum while at our club,,,, theres no doubt of that.

Best of luck Anthony. :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:
