Cardiff City are all set to table a contract offer to former Bolton Wanderers winger Chris Eagles.

Eagles, aged 28 was released by Bolton in May after three years at the club, and is now searching for a new club to kick start his career again, after a frustrating campaign at Wanderers.

The former Manchester United and Burnley player made just 16 appearances during the 2013/14 season, scoring just the once, as Dougie Freedman opted for Neil Danns instead.

Eagles is rumoured to be considering offers from the United States, but Ole Gunner Solskjaer could table a contract offer to take the winger to South Wales in the coming days.

Cardiff were rumoured to be keen on the Hertforshire born play-maker last season, however Eagles, who was then a first team regular at Bolton, turned down the offer from Malky Mackay.

The Bluebirds view Eagles as a player with flair who can help them get up to the Premier League at the first attempt, with Eagles having a proven track record in the Championship, with Burnley as well as Bolton Wanderers.

It is also thought that Middlesbrough are planning a deal for the player.

Eagles signed from Bolton in a joint £3 million move with Tyrone Mears from Burnley in the summer of 2011, and went onto make 93 appearances for the Trotters.

He was good in our promotion season but awful last year. But he's free and knows the league so why not.

Kim hasn't been very good for us lately, and don't worry we got all summer to sort the team out, the transfer window isn't even open yet and we are getting players in fast, there's plenty of time

only Noone and Burgstaller are wingers! what if one gets injured? Eagles would be a decent signing... seems to be OGS likes rotation, so we need more depth out wide instead of playing CM out wide!

Kimbolton hasn't been very good for us lately, and don't worry we got all summer to sort the team out, the transfer window isn't even open yet and we are getting playing in fast, there's plenty of time

I'm not even hinting at the fact that we havent got time. I'm talking priorities. We need a new CB and FB before we look at our midfield. Mimbo didnt perform in the PL but is a top championship player, did very well promotion year when he settled.

Whitts and Kimbo can both play out wide. Daehli played most of his games out wide for us last season.

I'd stick with Daehli and Noone on the wings. Can see Eagles being an impact player off the bench same as Bergstaller. Im wondering if Eikrem will come out of his shell this season aswell. Dont think Berget will even be good enough for the championship though he looked useless

I'm reserving judgement on Berget until he gets an opportunity.

Will be a great signing for this level, he's always impressed me when I've watched him.

Yeah hate Bullard always played well against us. Eagles will be a great signing, lots of experience and can play either side with a great cross on him. Even better now that he's on a free.

At present we got a good defence for the championship just not good enough for the premiership so I'm not concerned yet

Would be a good signing and I think he'd do well at the CCS
