A Memorial to Bluebirds fans who have sadly passed away.
Sat Sep 22, 2012 10:18 pm
just heard of the dealth of my old mate and Cardiff fan Walter "Sir Walt" Schmitt.
Known him for a few years, we met at Sheff.Utd during one of our away games, funny thing was he came from the same area as me, but we didnt have a lot of German footie in common:
he grew up in Frankfurt, was one of Eintracht's lads
I grew up on Offenbach's terraces, Frankfurt's most bitter rivals...
he retired from the scene a while ago and had a childhood love for Borussia Dortmund,
I grew up loving Schalke, Dortmund's big rival...
He was sound as f**k, a great guy to be around with, always lauging, sharing a joke, loving football, a good drink...
Can't believe he's gone, just spilled a few tears for him, apparently he died a few weeks back, I just found out about it...
R.I.P. Walt, you'll be missed

no, 3 years older than me... we joked we could have met on "active service" outside a german ground...
and when we first met I asked "are you from the Hesse region?" he said yea he was and I asked what team there? He said Eintracht, and I replied in the old days we would have a one on one now as I was born Offenbach... he laughed and said: "f**k it, we are both Cardiff and too old for that shit now..."

just spoken to a mate of his, Borussia Dortmund supporters club. Walt was found dead in his flat lying in his own blood, he died of a cerebral infarction, fell down and his head hit the floor. He was dead instantly, didnt have to suffer or anything...
His friends at Borussia Dortmund commemorated him with a banner....
R.I.P. again, my friend

Good read and pics. Out of interest, how did you and Walt get into watching Cardiff Hof? I've got a German mate in Gummersbach who follows Dortmund and he took me and my son to a game last season. Es war toll!

So sorry to hear of the death of Walt , he sounded a fantastic chap and for his fans to honour him with that banner etc shows the respect people had for him. Best wishes to you at this difficult time.
