I think the best result for us would be an Italy win by a few goals.

Would obviously much rather finish second than be one of the best third placed teams. Likely to play Russia, Finland or Denmark if we finish second but we'd face a group winner if one of the best third placed teams.

Chris was a strange performance by him? We said at home he'll put pen over bar he seemed to be out if sorts in some respects....but then he showed why he's world class with some unbelievable passes and then those two last minute plays at corners who else would think of that Really glad we have him..

Would be a big ask, but if we did (assuming Italy win tonight) then we'd top the group and play whoever finishes second in the Holland, Austria, Ukraine, North Macedonia group.

Final games are on Sunday at 5pm as we play Italy in Rome and Turkey play Switzerland in Baku.


In reality, our four points will almost certainly be enough to be at least one of the four best third placed teams - but we have a good chance of finishing second in the group.

If we don't lose to Italy or if Switzerland don't win, we're guaranteed to finish 2nd (if we win then we'll finish 1st).

What a great performance that was, we could have been out of sight by half time .

First game of today gets underway at 2pm in Bucharest as Ukraine play North Macedonia.

Ukraine lost their first game 3-2 against Holland.

North Macedonia also lost their first game, 3-1 against Austria.


Big game for both of them.

Ukraine win 2-1 against North Macedonia, despite Malinovskyi missing a late penalty for them.

Ukraine now join Holland and Austria on three points. North Macedonia still have no points and will be eliminated if the game between Austria and Holland later finishes in a draw or a Holland win - due to the fact that Austria and Ukraine beat them so they can't catch them due to the head to record being against them.



Next game today gets underway at 5pm in Copenhagen as Belgium play Denmark.

Belgium won 3-0 against Russia in their first game and Denmark lost 1-0 against Finland.

Finland and Russia played their second game yesterday, and Russia won 1-0.


This means Belgium will go through if they win today.

That's to avoid giving the goalkeeper an unfair advantage if he interferes with play. So if he was off his line and saved it then it would be retaken but if it's scored then obviously the advantage didn't help him enough. Likewise, the Turkish goalie could've been standing behind Bale for his penalty taken yesterday but because he didn't interfere with play and stop the ball going in (because it was off target) then it doesn't get retaken.
