The astonishing scenarios that bookies think are more likely than Cardiff City beating Liverpool

Friday 26th October 2018

Every major bookmaker is offering shorter odds on a Liverpool 5-0 victory at Anfield this weekend than Cardiff City to win by any score.

You can even get better odds on Liverpool to win 7-0 than a Bluebirds 1-0 or 2-1 scoreline, as Neil Warnock's men prepare for their trip to Merseyside seemingly without a prayer in the world.

Bet Victor offer the best price for a Cardiff win this weekend at 28/1 — with 12/1 the standard price for Liverpool to cruise home 5-0.

The chances of Crystal Palace finishing in the Premier League top six this season are better than any scores with a Cardiff win this weekend, according to the bookies.

Paddy Power prices the Eagles' chances of European football next term at 45/1, while the best price available for the Bluebirds to stun Liverpool 1-0 is the 70/1 offered by Labrokes.

Those odds means a Cardiff 1-0 win this weekend is less likely — in the eyes of the bookmakers — than British youngster Kyle Edmund winning Wimbledon in 2019 (66/1), Ian Poulter winning the US Masters (66/1) or Bangladesh winning the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

Key Stats
Cardiff City’s last league win over Liverpool was in December 1959 in the second tier, a 4-0 victory at Anfield in Bill Shankly’s third league match in charge of the Reds.
Liverpool have lost just one of their last 45 Premier League matches at home against newly promoted sides (W35 D9), with that defeat coming against Blackpool in 2010-11. The Reds have won all seven under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield by an aggregate score of 21-2.
Cardiff have lost 14 of their last 15 Premier League matches against ‘Big Six’ opposition (D1), conceding two or more goals in 12 of those games.
Liverpool could set a top-flight club record of 10 consecutive home clean sheets on Saturday if Cardiff fail to score against them.
Cardiff have scored just one goal in their last six Premier League away matches. On a more ominous note, Neil Warnock has managed four away games against Liverpool in his managerial career, losing all four without seeing his sides score a goal.
