Just 10 days ago, the Bluebirds' chances of promotion were placed at 40/1. Now, though, after wins over Rotherham, Coventry City and Luton Town, their odds have slashed by more than half to 18/1.

Cardiff currently have the shortest odds of any team currently not in the top six, alongside Barnsley, who have a game in hand on those above them, and Neil Warnock's Middlesbrough, both of whom are also priced at 18/1.

What I am all for this year is the Continued better football, a bit of excitement in the run up to the end of the season, and to continue the hope that MM has brought with him that we are finally able to compete in the upper half of the league.

agree , there is never a wrong time. .at the very least it keeps money rolling in... although i do understand Barclays point...last time it was hugely under funded and thats what is likely to happen again...but. .that is exactly what will also happen if we do not go up but go up instead next season or the season after.. 4 decent championship players and a couple of loans that no other premier lge side wants really is not enough...

correct mate...its one thing expecting to go straight back up... another all together funding it... last time the team that got relegated were not very good, and i for one expected that lack of investment in our prem year would lead to giving it a real go last season... what we got was decent but not great replacements for those leaving and no strengthening at all... but it is what it is Tan is owed a zillion pounds so we just have to keep paying it ....

Its easier to build a squad with millions coming in rather than relying on investment from the owner, as we will be next season. You're right about the money we've wasted following our relegations though. The issue is there is no consistency with our managers, so money spent is often wasted as the next manager needs a clear out of players that don't fit the system. Warnock worked a miracle getting us promoted but left us with a very 1-dimensional squad. mick has shown he can be quite versatile so it will be interesting to see what he does with a bit of backing.

But until the club finds some sort of philosophy, where the transition between managers isn't so extreme, I think we'll be stuck in this cycle of wasting money clearing out players and building from scratch for each manager. Long term, we do need to transition to a better passing based game. More options for managers, more attractive bringing players in and easier for youth to make the transition into the first team.
