I would never count anything in or out but I will point out Mick McCarthy has a contract with Cardiff City FC until the end of the season and is hardly likely to walk away from a winning team right now; although that might change in the summer depending on the wants/actions of either party currently at the CCS...

Additionally, the 'favourites' for the Glasgow Celtic job are Steve Clarke and Rafa Benitez; the later of which going up against his former protege currently at Glasgow Rangers would be very interesting indeed

Nothing of note in any proper media to 'link' Mick McCarthy with the Glasgow Celtic job but you may know different?

From my end, I'm not totally dismissing it, but I won't be worrying one jot that it will happen either :ayatollah:

I don't think they'll go for him.

He used to play for them so I expect it's a case of the media putting two and two together and getting five.

should be signed up right now.... might not end up at Celtic but there must be a number of under performing clubs giving it serious consideration....

Celtic line up Cardiff City manager Mick McCarthy following Neil Lennon departure

The Bluebirds boss has worked wonders during his eight games in charge, but now his former club are thought to be after him for the vacant managerial post at Parkhead

By Glen Williams

Thursday 25th February 2021

Cardiff City manager Mick McCarthy is reportedly among the shortlist of candidates to replace Neil Lennon at Celtic.

McCarthy was appointed Bluebirds boss last month and has worked a miracle in his first eight games in charge, having gone unbeaten and won his last six games on the bounce.

It has seen the Bluebirds shoot from potential relegation candidates to the play-off spots under the new manager, who has won over the entirety of the Cardiff fan base in doing so.

However, Football Insider claim that Celtic are considering McCarthy as Lennon's successor.

They claim that McCarthy's short-term contract at Cardiff represents an attractive prospect for Celtic, with City not able to demand compensation if he is snapped up in the summer.

McCarthy's pedigree as a manager for what he did with Wolves, Sunderland, Ipswich Town and the Republic of Ireland also speaks for itself.

But the former defender also has links with Celtic, having spent two years there as a player between 1987-1989, winning three trophies during that time.

He grew to become a fan favourite with the Celtic supporters and it is thought he would be a popular appointment, should that be the case.

However, Cardiff will no doubt be considering McCarthy's long-term future. The Bluebirds have offered him a contract until the end of the season with a view to fresh terms if he does well.

While there are still 14 games to go in the Championship campaign, there is no doubt McCarthy has done a stellar job since taking the reins and conversations are likely being had behind the scenes about the manager's longer-term future.

"I'm cool with [the length of the contract] and if I earn a longer-term deal out of it, then good for me. If I don't, it's my fault," McCarthy said after taking the job last month.

"I guess I've got to earn that long-term deal with my performance and the performance of the players."

On the evidence so far, he certainly appears to have earned a new deal. Whether that is forthcoming or not remains to be seen.

However, owner Vincent Tan has recently spoken in glowing terms about the job McCarthy has done in the Welsh capital.

"I am very happy, very pleased, Mick McCarthy has done a great job in a short while," he told talkSPORT. "Definitely, any owner would be very pleased with this performance.

"So I really am very happy and thankful that Mick and all his boys did a great job.

"Of course (this needs) everybody's co-operation and the team have stepped up very well under Mick's leadership.

"Hopefully we can do better, hopefully we can get into the play-offs."

You can get 40/1 on him to get the job.

John Kennedy, Eddie Howe, Frank Lampard, Steve Clarke and Roberto Martinez are the top five in the betting market.

I'd be shocked.

Not the right fit for Celtic at the moment anyway. They'll probably go for a younger manager like Howe or Lampard.

To be fair, within a few hours of Harris getting sacked, McCarthy was the favourite.

Why would anyone want that job ?
4 meaningful league games a per year
Maybe 2 others if you count the scottish fa and league cups
And a couple of games before they get knocked out in Europe.

Total gash football in a 2 team league.

ps Neil Lennon - what a lovely individual

Not always the case that the Scottish teams are knocked out of Europe early.

Rangers are now into the last 16 of the Europa League for the second season in a row.

It can also be a good springboard for some managers to get a bigger job in the future.

Brendan Rodgers struggled at Liverpool, and went to Celtic. Did a good job there and is now managing Leicester, who are 3rd in the Premier League (level on points with 2nd).

Steven Gerrard is reported to be the front runner for the Liverpool job when Klopp leaves, after doing well with Rangers.

The reasons above are why I expect them to go with a younger manager who has a point to prove.

Frank Lampard or Eddie Howe would fit that bill I think.

Frank Lampard a good fit, I think

Not so sure about Eddie Howe; he declined 'tentative' interest from us on the grounds he wanted to stay located on the south coast and wait for an appropriate Premier League job within commuting distance

Without a doubt the Scottish league is poor but the attraction is European football every year, however the chance to take Cardiff into the Premiership tops that for me. I didn’t want McCarthy but I’m happy to be proved wrong, he’s not going to Nonce FC.

Hopefully Mick's just one of the names being thrown into the mix.
Whatever your feelings on Celtic most will agree its a massive club were you'll more than likely pick up some silverware and manage in Europe. It's a job that would probably tempt most championship managers

i think people look at the league and not the club....yes its a poor league but Rangers and Celtic are high profile clubs... in Europe every year and you get to win a lot of the time....
not overly concerned about the Celtic rumour but the fact he is being linked at all will probably mean other EFL clubs will be tuned into his 3 month contract...
