A top player from L1 would have cost 1-2 million, now you just sign them. However well run Forest Green Rovers are I doubt they could match our wage structure, so couldn't have offered Ebo Adams a better salary 12 months ago. Adams is now in the championship, he is in the shop window and if he does well his agent will push us for an extension and pay raise.
Transfers are the preserve of the spoilt for at least another season. The big clubs that must have it now, those with excess money.
Its a weird market, the million-dollar question is are all the free transfers a blip or how the non-premier league clubs will do business going forward.
There are two options IMO at the moment.
1- Sign players to a system, to maximise your teams' performance like we are doing
2- Buy young players to sell on to a bigger club with money like Swansea. It's called pin hooking in horse racing. We all remember their excellent signings but they have had a lot of duffers as well.

Would you suggest footballers are now moving to a point where running down a contract for that purpose is now more the norm?
If so, would this help or hinder clubs outside the Premier or top two leagues?
