How much money is in the War-chest?

Fri Dec 08, 2023 11:24 am

Dalman was quoted at saying that they were making all efforts to get in monies that are owned to the club. OK lets park that one for a moment.
City have not payed any transfer fee out since the Summer of 2022 (£1.5M for Robinson) so we would be due to dip into the pocket in January as a matter of course, i would put a figure of at least £3M. The real boost to the war-chest will come from the insurance pay-out for the Sala situation that is likely to be around £10M, that is what I think Dalman was hinting at when he referred to getting the monies in that are owed to the club.

We have a situation that in broad terms there could be up to £16.5M available in January if you count the payment due from Bournemouth for the Kieffer Transfer.
I believe that if you put all the various factors together we are in for one hell of a ride come 1st of January, Tan & Dalman will seriously back Bulut, he knows he has a serious war chest to play with and I think we are already in train to sort it early doors in January :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

Couple of £million at most I would say and that would probably depend on getting at least 4 players out and off the payroll

The one thing I think we should expect is a continuation of the frugal approach of the last few years...

I'm not suggesting the Board (nee Tan) won't back his manager some money, as he is said to have been very impressed on the few occasions they have spoken...

What I believe will happen is that there will be backing for the manager but not at 'any cost' and I would support that approach in the hope that the improvements continue this season before a proper tilt at success next season...

Of course, if success were to come this season, it would be superb and most welcomed... :ayatollah:

Agree with all of that Chris.

I think money will be available for new signings, but only at the right price. The club won’t be overcharged for players.

Some fans seem to expect the club to tell us how much is available to the manager. I find that expectation strange because if they did that, other clubs would then overcharge us.

I believe we will have the right approach in January. Bulut will be able to strengthen his squad but we will not pay a transfer fee too much over what a player is worth to us.

That’s a good thing. One good thing you can say about this owner is we will not spend beyond our means.

It’s better to be like that. Clubs like Reading, Derby etc have spent beyond their means and look at them now.

Good post, let's not lose the plot and risk doing a Derby. We paid over a million for Robinson and he's not even that good (so far)

It would appear that Keiffer is our number 1 target and hopefully if Bournemouth play ball we will get him

Apart from paying for him I believe all other transfers will be through wheeling and dealing using the loan and free transfer market

To help balance the books at least 4 players would I imagine be leaving

I do expect our squad to be stronger on January 31st than it was on December 31st how much stronger we will have to wait and see

That sums up my feelings exactly.

I would have thought tan would be wanting to recoup any money coming his way whether he would spend big is unlikely but a small war chest
its all speculation
I did ask the question the other day about funds nothing specific but a statment from dalhman that funds will be avaiable would be enough for me unless there is someone in the know who could enlighten fans.

Monty, he does want to recoup his money but not at any cost. He's no saint himself but he's been stung too many times to allow that to happen again...

He must be quite happy with the way this season has unfolded to date, as it has proved that bringing in hungry players can be a more potent force than bringing in high value 'headliners' :ayatollah:

Thanks, Ned...

I chuckled at (qupte) "Some fans seem to expect the club to tell us how much is available to the manager.", as it's clear on here that some actually 'demand' to know...

Anyone suggesting more than a couple of million is having a laugh, our own manager has already stated that the turkish boy is out of our price range as regards wages. Lets no go overboard on this, trust tge manager to get the best from whatever money he has, throw ramsey and odowda back in and see where we go.
