The Welsh League is a joke.
Merthyr currently get about 1,000 Home Fans and that’s in the Southern Premier of the Non League, imagine if they went up the Non League Pyramid.
I remember going there with 4,500 Crowds .
National Conference/ League 2 you never ever know and with that dream crowds go up and up.
In the Welsh League its crowds of 80-350
And 600 if it’s to win the league.
Welsh football bosses want Merthyr Town to join Wales’ domestic set-up.
The Football Association of Wales (FAW) has made a presentation to the Martyrs hierarchy with a view to enticing them out of the English non-league system and into an expanded Cymru Premier in 2026.
Merthyr are currently top of the Southern League Premier Division South, which is at step seven in the English pyramid.
They are the only remaining non-league club from Wales in the English set-up, along with the English Football League (EFL) clubs Swansea City, Cardiff City, Wrexham and Newport County.
Traditionally the club has been keen to remain in the English system and in the early 1990s Merthyr were among a group of clubs that refused to join a new League of Wales.
The club, who were at the time in the Conference - now National League - were allowed to continue in the English pyramid by the Football Association of Wales following a successful appeal.

Law plays at that level. The Cymru Prem is not even National Lge North or South standard. The 2 Iriish leagues are also a far better standard than the Cymru prem. TNS had a footballing lesson off Shamrock Rovers last week and their league is probably national league standard.

Where does it say that ?
Or who says that?
What the original post says is Merthyr are in the lower English leagues Southern Premier and can go higher and much higher.
Plus their crowds would increase massively, but in the Welsh League, Crowds are worse than awful.

I was replying to the post about the Cymru Prem being National lge or Lge 2 standard.
It’s miles off either of those leagues.
Merthyr are better off in the English pyramid system as the Cymru Prem or League of Wales as it was known hasn’t really improved in standard since its inception. The facilities are a lot better but the football isn’t.

It's a difficult one isn't it.
The Welsh clubs joined the English pyramid simply because we didn't have a national league in Wales. In a perfect world all Welsh clubs would be playing in Wales but because of history, tradition, finance etc that is never going to happen.
Clubs like Caernarfon, Bangor City, Rhyl etc never looked back after joining the Welsh Pyramid. Some have suffered issues not football related since. Their fans love the Welsh Prem - derby days, less travelling etc.
As for standard it's hard to measure - Colwyn Bay who were until 2020 playing in the English Pyramid (step 7 like Merthyr) when they joined the Welsh Pyramid. They struggled in the Prem and were relegated in their 1st season. When one consider this and other instances it's therefore correct assume that the Welsh Prem is on par with the National League or at a stretch League 2. Colwyn Bay's attendance figures are much higher since joining the Welsh Pyramid.
Crowd figures in Welsh football are going up every year. Strangely up here in the north of Wales crowds in the second tier can be much higher, again more derby days etc. But the standard of the leagues, stadiums etc are improving annually which can only be a good thing for Welsh football. The WFA is in good hands nowadays with the grey suits gone and is very forward looking.
Europe is obviously the big attraction and a huge cash cow. That's why Cardiff, Jacks etc want to qualify via the Nathaniel Cup.
Merthyr is fans owned and therefore it will be a fans decision. But having been suffered bankruptcy many times in the English Pyramid they need to consider their options carefully.
