Club Connections

Malky Mackay, who took us to the Premier League, was also Watford manager before his time with us.

Omer Riza, our interim manager, was previously a coach at Watford for a long time.

Michael Chopra is amongst the players to have played for both clubs.

Rival Players

As far as I can see, there are no ex Swansea City or Bristol City players in the Watford squad.

The Opposition's Manager

Tom Cleverley was named as Watford manager, initially as interim, in March 2024.

He was confirmed as the permanent manager in April and this is his first managerial position.

Opposition Dangerous Players

Giorgi Chakvetadze has impressed in his first season in this league, he has a goal and four assists so far.

Vakoun Bayo has scored seven league goals this season.

Head To Head

We have won two of our last five against Watford, with them also winning two in that time.

Last season, we won there away but drew at home.

We're very leaky at the back and seem to be wide open after a goal. I'd like to see a clean sheet and a stinking 1-0 win to be honest. 90+8 so we don't have much time to defend it.

We could probably win the game if we freaked the players out with a near full house ,
I think that would get a responce from all the players,
but sadly another very low crowd predicted,
as tan dalhman choo have knocked the stuffing out of the fans,
and this saga of no manager is adding to the f.ck it attidude from a lot

Its hard to get exited when you have nothing to get exited about season over rudderless with no manager no striker no interest from the owner/board
How bad does it have to get bouncing along the bottom of the division.

Grimsby is probably where we found half of our players in that case!

Yes at least
Things are bad when we have to make jokes about our situation we find ourselves in
we as fans must be in the top 10 of clubs who treat there fans so badly,
made to feel Completly unimportant its become us and them ,
just like before warnock came.
I have us down for a win saturday against watford.

Daniel Jebbison played an hour and Pierre Dwomoh the full 90 minutes as Watford Under-21s were beaten 3-1 at home by Millwall this afternoon.

A combination of a hip injury and not being selected mean the on-loan Bournemouth striker has not been part of the first-team squad since November 8.

He has played just nine minutes of senior football since mid-October and is still yet to complete a full 90 for the Hornets.

Jebbison was given an hour at London Colney, while midfielder Dwomoh played the full game.

The Belgian has also not featured since November 8, although he has been on the bench for the last two games after missing the trip to Plymouth due to illness.

However, a team that also included Antonio Tikvic and Keiky Almedia were beaten by the Lions in the Premier League Development League South.

Watford:

Our visitors head into this Saturday’s contest in the Play-Off places in sixth spot.

The Hornets have impressed at Vicarage Road this season, picking up 23 out of a possible 27 points at home.

The Golden Boys have been less successful on their travels this campaign, only picking up seven points on the road.

Last time out, the side were held to a goalless draw against Queens Park Rangers at home. Watford went close late on when Imran Louza’s free kick rattled the crossbar and almost bounced over the line.

Away one Win from nine away games.

I will be down for this and is dalhman and choo having a meeting at the stadium ?
I have this oddly down for a win for us,
lets hope that the attendance is not as awful as i think it could be.
We should start building the crowd back up to the swansea game in january
rather than waitung till then to get out of the armchair.

Cardiff appointed Omer Riza as their permanent manager earlier today.

Riza was part of Valerien Ismael’s first-team coaching staff last season and was the Hornets’ Under-21 lead coach before that.

Riza was put in temporary charge when Erol Bulut was dismissed in September, and was announced as permanent appointment this afternoon.

Cardiff lost five of their first six games under Bulut, but Riza has picked up 16 points from a possible 36 and lifted the Bluebirds out of the relegation zone.

“Omer had a great patch with a team that were really struggling and looked destined for the bottom three, and he’s managed to turn that round,” said Cleverley.

“I think he’s still got a good record, and he is a coach I respect that I know from Watford.

“He’s actually a coach I played under, when I was returning from injury in two Under-21 games.“I’ve coached his son too last year, so there are a few more connections than people probably know.

“He’s a thorough coach who isn’t afraid to have fresh ideas or be a little bit unorthodox.

“We’ll have to be ready to adapt on the day because he looks like he’s got a group who are playing for him.”

Having an interim manager for the best part of three months is far from ideal and suggests there were issues behind the scenes at Cardiff – not that Cleverley is bothered about all that.

Re: TEAM NEWS: “CARDIFF CITY v WATFORD " MATCH THREAD

“That’s not my worry that one,” he said.

“Cardiff on the pitch is where my attention lies and I’ve not paid any attention to what is going on upstairs at Cardiff.

“I’m completely focussed on what they are doing on the pitch and how we can win that game.”

Something Cleverley can certainly show empathy towards is the environment Riza will have been working in while he was interim manager.

“Players’ buy-in is always one, because players know this might not be for the long term and they might have a little less intensity to play for you,” he explained.

“It wasn't the case for me here, and it doesn’t look like the case for Omer.

“There’s that little bit of uncertainty around the club surrounding the staff away from the technical side as well.

“But players will generally give their all for themselves and for whoever the manager may be.

“It wasn’t an issue here, and it doesn’t look like an issue at Cardiff.”

However, any interim or caretaker boss really can only look as far as the next game.

“Yeah, it’s short term because your job is less about developing assets or young players, it’s all about short-term results,” the Watford boss pointed out.

“That was the mindset I was in.

“Then if you get a longer-term project you can start thinking about things differently: my main priority is still to win games but also I have to develop players to help the club in the future.”
