Teams Around Us This Past Week

Wed Jan 15, 2025 4:19 pm

So it looks like the teams around us are making moves, here are some of the moves so far:

Hull: Signed Matt Crooks, signed Joe Gelhardt

Luton: New manager in Matt Bloomfield, signed Isaiah Jones

Portsmouth: Signed Isaac Hayden

Plymouth: New head coach in Miron Muslic, signed Tymoteusz Puchacz

Just worth highlighting for the time being.

A bit worried as 2 additions is nowhere near enough

Apart from Gelhardt, our fans wouldn’t be happy with the signings made on that list.

One fan on here said we should be aiming for the likes of Evan Ferguson.

Personally I think the clubs around us have made some solid signings

Yeah a bit worried with the moves made by the teams around us. As for the managers, time will tell.

I did see the Ferguson comment before

Jones was on a good run at Boro for a while but seems to have fallen out of favour, not a bad player.

Gelhardt is an interesting one. Remember when he first played for Leeds as a teenager and he looked like he had huge potential. Not happened for him though, despite a recent loan move. Only 22 though so I expect things will click for him at some point.

Crooks was a decent player once but not sure he's up to Championship standard anymore.

Don't know much about that Plymouth signing, a bit like our new striker. But like us, they will feel it's worth taking the chance. Although I think our signing, going by reports, will comfortably adapt to the Championship - that may also be the case for their signing, I don't know.

All in all, some decent signings for those clubs but I wouldn't call any of them a huge game changer. Those signings are hard to find in January.

The big deals, like PL loans, aren't likely to happen until the last few days.

But I'm not overly concerned with who other teams are signing so far. They would say the same about us I suppose.

Seeing things like Ashley Barnes going on a FREE to Norwich does my nut in too.
Our mugs, sorry, board should be realising players like him are out of contract and approaching him he would get us some important goals.

He's gone to Burnley, not Norwich.

He has scored only 16 goals in four and a half seasons.

People would point out that's a very poor goalscoring record if we had signed him.

His goal scoring record has never been amazing to be fair.

It makes sense him going back to Burnley.

And the first thing our fans would say if we were in for him would be "he doesn't score enough goals."

But because he's gone to another Championship team, it's a great deal that we've missed out on.

We all know we need a new owner but it helps nobody when every possible signing is written off before they get a chance.

Couldn’t agree more Ned.

Unfortunately some people have very unrealistic expectations on what we are going to do this window.

We don’t have 10m to splash on a striker, no matter how much fuss certain posters make.

You're not supposed to say that Allan.

All their new signings are Premier League standard and our new striker isn't good enough (even though none of us have seen him yet).

Just in case, the topic was mostly looking at our nearest competition and their moves. Of course we will see what we do over the next couple of weeks and how it pans out.

It’s the toughest window, hopefully a couple of loans can help.

Wasn't criticising you, it's a good topic to put up. Just getting annoyed with people saying a signing isn't good enough before he's even got through the door.

100%. Like the striker we are linked with. Just got to see how they perform.
