Club Connections

There are a number of players who have played for both Cardiff and Swansea.

Amongst them are Jason Bowen, Alan Curtis, Andy Legg, Warren Feeney, Steven Caulker, John Toshack and Don Murray.

Rival Players

This is for players that have previous played for Swansea, but obviously they all fall into this category for this game.

The Opposition's Manager

Luke Williams was appointed Swansea manager in January last year.

They had a good end to last season and he guided them to a 14th placed finish.

Before that, he was at Notts County where he got them promoted from the National League.

Opposition Dangerous Players

Matt Grimes has long been an important part of Swansea’s squad.

Liam Cullen has eight league goals this season.

Head To Head

We have lost three of our last five against them, with the only win for us in that time coming in the home game last season.

The away fixture this season finished in a 1-1 draw.

Massive game for us Saturday. I don't think we've had more riding on a derby game for a long time.

If we lose Saturday I think we'll go down, I know it's only one game but with how toxic things are already they will get alot worse with a derby defeat at home.

We've improved slightly the last few games, I like Chambers in centre mid looks far more comfortable there than at centre back and Ashford has been a revelation since coming in.

Robinson has to come in for Colwill and maybe Siopis for Rino probably the only two changes I'd make. Perry has been poor this season to say they least but his shithousery is needed in games like this.

As for that lot I've only seen them a few times and obviously when they play us, but what is clear is virtually everytime we play against them Matt Grimes has a cigar on and is allowed to dictate the play and tippy tappy his way around our midfield without anyone getting near him. He needs to be harassed saturday maybe even put Sio on him and follow him all game.

More often than not if he has a good game they do, we need to nip that in the bud from kick off and not let him get into his rhythum.

I don't believe dumb and dumber will be injured at centre back for them either just mind games but we can't allow them to take a stroll to the halfway line like we normally let them do.

Get into them from the off and we'll do these. I'm going for 2-0 Robbo and Ashford to score. Bring on the heart attack.

1-1 for me.

We aren't free flowing, they are good at the back. We tend to concede, they tend to score against us.

3 points yesterday makes it a little less tense on our end. They haven't won in their last 3.

They are the better team but have a feeling we'll get the 3 points, goal each half for a 2-0 win putting us on played 27, points 27.

Just hope to god our players rise to the occasion but keep their heads...coz those out west will bring all the dark arts

Omer Riza:

“We have the qualities to hurt Swansea and they will have to look out for what we are going to do against them.”

“The squad is in a good place. There is a good togetherness, there’s a good work ethic and intensity level. We’ve been performing well. We’ll be taking that into this game and hopefully we’ll be even better than we have been.

“Something that I’ve mentioned to the boys is that we want everyone on the pitch. One less player is one more problem. We’re aware of that and we’ll be sensible. We’ll be approaching the game to win, to make it difficult for the opposition and that’s what we’ll be looking to do on Saturday."

Our opponents this Saturday recorded a 1-1 draw against West Bromwich Albion in their last league fixture, before bowing out of the Emirates FA Cup with a 3-0 defeat to Southampton.

“Swansea have got a distinct way of playing. They’ve got their strengths in the way they try to play. We’ll be working on ways of making sure we don’t allow them to hurt us too much with the strengths that they’ve got.”

"With the qualities that we’ve got, we’ll be looking to hurt them.”

“ They’ll have to be looking out for what we’re going to do against them. It’ll be a game of strategy, passion and desire."

Cardiff City are set to make striker Yousef Salech their first signing of the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old, who plays for Swedish side Sirius, has had his medical and is expected to cost between £3m and £4m.

Championship strugglers Cardiff are keen to add to their attacking options having managed only 26 goals from 26 league games this season.

Salech, who is 6ft 5in, scored 11 goals from 27 appearances in the Swedish top flight last season.

Cardiff manager Omer Riza would not confirm the club's interest in Salech but said: "We are in the process in respect of transfers and are working hard.

"We are coming closer to getting some stuff done. Until we see them in a blue shirt with a badge on their chest you can never be certain. Things are moving forward."

Born in Denmark to a Palestinian father and Polish mother, Salech also qualifies to play for Jordan.

If he is registered as a Cardiff player by midday on Friday, his debut could come in Saturday's south Wales derby against Swansea City at Cardiff City Stadium.

The Bluebirds are short of genuine centre-forwards, with Wilfried Kanga failing to score in 16 appearances on loan from Hertha Berlin this season.

Kion Etete only made his first appearance of the campaign last week after a hamstring injury, while the untried Roko Simic is back at the club after an unsuccessful loan at KV Kortrijk.

Don't want to heap pressure on the players but this is huge given our league position. C'mon Bluebirds

Looks like O"Dowda might be injured, not good.

He's off to be replaced by Bagan.

Not a bad first half at all from Cardiff, thought we should be 1 up but Robinson tame shot straight at the keeper.

Boys are competing

Sat Jan 18, 2025 1:26 pm

The first 20 minutes followed same old pattern of letting them boss us but we were resilient and grew into the game. Robinson has to do better with that chance at the end.

Playing to deep Ashford needs to be closer to Robinson.... we came more into it as half progressed ... 26/74% possession can see ehy swans fans not happy half the time

Re: MATCH THREAD: " CARDIFF CITY v SWANSEA CITY " MATCH THRE

Sat Jan 18, 2025 1:29 pm

Half time 0-0

Crowd are getting excited every time Ashford gets the ball. Despite Swansea having 70% possession we have looked the most dangerous with a couple of weak shots on target to their zero.

Robinson doing a lot of complaining at his own players if the ball isn't exactly where he thinks it should be.

Good to see the ref isn't falling for their shit and so far, so good.

Not seeing any banners or any sign of the march on tv, I'm guessing the banners were either put away or confiscated but WOL seemed to cover it quite well & certainly didn't hide it.

Hope we get to see the new guy sometime in the second half.

1-0 to Cardiff & it's Robinson with a well taken goal!

Re: MATCH THREAD: " CARDIFF CITY v SWANSEA CITY " MATCH THRE

Sat Jan 18, 2025 1:44 pm

And it's a second for Robinson & Cardiff as he pounces on a loose back pass & makes no mistake.

Robinson is now on a hat trick & the commentator tells me the last time that happened in this fixture was 1965. Wow

The Cardiff fans are in dreamland as Goutas makes it 3-0 from a corner with a fantastic header.

This is where we need to "manage" the game to the end. Not defend and hold onto a 3-0 lead. But no need to take risks now

How would you "manage" the game then?

Swansea seem to have woken up & it's time for changes from both teams.

Chambers off for Siopis & Robertson off for Colwill.

Re: MATCH THREAD: " CARDIFF CITY v SWANSEA CITY " MATCH THRE

Sat Jan 18, 2025 2:14 pm

I think they are doing it tbh. Getting the ball up the field. Let the ball go out of play and Bagan taking his time over injuries - taking the sting out of the game.

Re: MATCH THREAD: " CARDIFF CITY v SWANSEA CITY " MATCH THRE

Sat Jan 18, 2025 2:17 pm

And the new guy gets about 10 minutes to show us what he's all about and there will be no hat trick for Robinson.

Game end 3=0 to Cardiff & the boss let his emotions get the better of him there & got himself a red card.
