" Today wasn't a flash in the pan "

Sat Jan 18, 2025 9:09 pm

Buzzing about today's win.

But it's not just today.

We were all deflated after Oxford. We really looked doomed.

But since then it's six unbeaten in all competitions, three wins and three draws.

We look so much better.

Today is huge for a number of reasons but crucially it will give the team the confidence to march on.

There is the basis of a good team.

Robertson, Robinson, Ashford, Chambers, Rinomhota and Bagan have all impressed lately.

We do still need a few more signings in this window, particularly out wide.

But we currently look in a much better state than some of us feared on Boxing Day.

It’s in our hands. We have good players who have been around the block a bit. They have shown they can organise. I suspect our newly added coach is helping there.

If we can make the right signings. Some quality and pace then we can climb

If we had a little more luck in those draws we would be mid table now. Coventry still stings.

Said all along we are not a bad side? Why we dipped after riza first 6 games only he knows but since Shaw as come in we look a different team! But will say most successful coaches always have good no2 at least and this appears to be the case now.....

Whether it was Shaws' introduction or a come-to-Jesus moment for Riza, we stopped trying to play fantasy coaches' manual stuff and started playing championship attritional percentage football.

Need a left-sided version of Ashford and I'll be happy

This may be a bit uncomfortable. After we find out Omer’s father has been ill and eventually passed away. Maybe he has struggled the last month or so due to this, as it’s obvious he is close to his dad.. we don’t know and with all respect to him and his family we don’t need to know.
But it has brought back memories of Huds struggling in his first season and wasn’t a favourite of the fans. When behind the scenes his family h we’re going through horrendous personal times. Yet turning it around and becoming a great servant of the club.
I know this is a football forum and it’s about our club. But it’s not one dimensional and there’s more going in on in the players and managers lives than just our club.
As I say, who knows. But Riza had an amazing impact when he stepped up, then had issues with results, then beefed up his coaching team, to spread the load.and returned to being undefeated recently.
When you read Ramasuts post match comments about Omer travelling back and fore to London, still carrying out training sessions, media interviews (and I guarantee no one could guess what he was experiencing from Thursdays interview). Maybe we sometimes forget these guys have a life outside the job.

Either way, he showed today he’s a man of immense character.
Win, lose or draw in his outcome here. I’ve got immense respect for him.

Great post. I totally agree with you.

Thoughts still with Omer and his family, not an easy time. I know that from recent experience.

But he has fulfilled his job as manager with class today.

There's having a decent squad, which we have and playing the right players in the right position which we've just started to do. I now hope that Bagan and Rimahota start as first choice as they've earned it.(No disrespect to NG or O'Dowda)

Rino has been amazing. I’ve always liked him as a pro. Could never understand why he was so unpopular with other managers. But Christ he just gets on with it. No fuss just 90 mins of committed play. The fact we aren missing a recognised out and out RB is testament to the effort he’s putting in

I agree with you, you don't want to get carried away as all of the other teams at the bottom seem to be turning it around as well.

Its clear we have a much better balance between expeirence and youth.

Bagan, Ashford, Robertson, Fish, Tanner, Daland, Colwill & Davies when he's back.

Shame about Kpakio as I think he was another making a big impression.

Add Salech who has ony just turned 23, there is a lots of energy and excitement in the squad.

Then you add Rinomhota & Chambers who have been excellent. Alnwick looks solid again and Robinson looks much better with pace around him.

Signs look good and bench looks stronger.

The next 2 fixtures will be key playing teams around us!!

The bench definitely was a lot stronger mate. Virtually everyone on there could either cover well for an injury, or potentially impact on the game for a tactical change. We haven’t had that for a few years.

Agree great post
And as said we only see 90 mins or so a week etc not the 24/7 that goes on in people's life.
Riza shown great character with a difficult situation and rightly so should get respect and given support rest of season. I really hope he can keep it going as he's a nice guy

The credit has to go to the manager for putting those players in and changing the team with players who have their jobs.

Long may it continue and now is the time to kick on and move away from that bottom 3 :bluebird:
