" Salech, Mannsverk and Alves "

Sat Feb 08, 2025 6:28 pm

Think they all showed today that they'll improve us.

Salech - Starting to look like a very good signing. He missed one good chance (and the penalty in the shootout) but took his goal really well with a good timed run. His movement opened up the space for Colwill and the wingers. Such a difference having a proper striker finally.

Mannsverk - Very comfortable on the ball and can make one touch passes. Getting used to the way we play but looks like an upgrade on Siopis because of his technical ability. Started to look tired just before he came off.

Alves - Probably our most dangerous player in extra time. Has good control of the ball and will run at defenders. Had one shot which was well saved by their keeper. His pace will be an asset.

I suggest Jason Perry needs to learn more about football then

Obvious to everyone what sort of player he is.

He bullies defenders, makes runs that open space and often finds himself in goalscoring positions.

I'm guessing Perry doesn't know because it's been that long since we had a proper striker.

Salech is comfortable up top on his own. His goal was quality.

My only gripe was, he was very deep on many occaisions. Eithers he's been asked to help out, or naturally drifts back. We needed an outlet at times and he was deep.

Some very good link up play with both wings and Rubin.

Significantly better than anyone else at that role though (up top, being a nuisance).

Id still start Robbo on Tuesday.

I saw that too mate. Think he was told to as Colwill seemed further forward during our press too.

Yeah, Robinson's recent goal form means he should still start on Tuesday.

The fact that Salech played 120 minutes today probably decides that anyway.

He's a great option when Robbo is ineffective, though! :thumbright:

God knows. Maybe Tanner and O'Dowda? Bagan was excellent today. We've got options.

Great post and I agree, Ned! :thumbright:

Still early days for all three but I think Salech is the ‘handful’ that can also score that we have needed for some time!

Mannsvert looks the part in midfield and as he regains match fitness, I think he will become a mainstay of the team for the remainder of this season

Alves showed good technique when he came on and again, he is one who will only enhance our play over the coming months

The FA Cup was another great opportunity to ‘rest’ players and for our ‘fringe’ players to show their worth and on the whole it paid off today

But where I am a little concerned is at the back, where we have good basic defenders who seem unable to find their feet at times. Goutas’ is certainly not under any threat for his Championship place and I only hope we can find his natural partner sooner rather than later

A great win today in an exciting cup game and we can now look forward to the 5th Round draw on Monday evening in the hope of a home tie of note :ayatollah:

Salech looks like it’s all in a days work up top. Doesn’t look anything other than comfortable and has that little bit of arrogance we have lacked. Will be a fans favourite

All 3 will be important for us as the season goes on.

We’ve been crying out for pace and Alves brings that.

Mannsverk is going to be our starter alongside Chambers I would imagine when he’s fully match fit and he’s a lot more technical than Siopis was.

As for Salech, he looks sharp, good movement and a good amount of bite in him which again we have been missing.

Early days for all 3 but all look to be what we have been missing.

He may have been asked, as most of his goal videos from the past he's been a bit of a poachers who finds space and is in the right lace at the right time.
