" Riza: We weren't good enough "

Tue Feb 11, 2025 10:52 pm

OMER RIZA:

"We made it hard for ourselves early on. To go two down again is hard work. I thought after 20, 25 minutes, we were better. We created opportunities, got a goal so we stayed in the game.

"In the second half, we created opportunities and chances again that we maybe should have scored, but in general we weren't good enough. We lacked execution, we lacked bravery. We were second to a lot of stuff tonight.

"They have been really strong at home, and they're good at the things they did. We didn't stand up to the challenge. We didn't start aggressively enough, and we didn't do the basics well enough.

"I've told my players that we can do better, we can play better than that. You might have to have a fight, but once you've had a fight, you need to be able to start playing your game and applying your strengths to the game, which will cause the opposition a problem.

"When we did that, we caused them problems, but it was few and far between tonight. Like I said, to go 2-0 down, you start searching for things that are not there a little bit earlier than you want."

"We've got Bristol City at home now on Saturday. We need to get ready for it, we need to pick up points. That's what our focus is now. The fans have really backed us. Today it was hostile, it was hard, and it helped elevate their performance. On Saturday, we'll have a good crowd and get that backing that we normally have.

"Aaron Ramsey has been out for five months, so the plan for him is not to play game after game. We have to manage him accordingly."

Why didn’t he start with the side that won at Stoke second half. We showed no attacking intent or energy until 85mins.

What chances? Robinson straight at keeper nothing outstanding other than that 2nd half.....we were 2nd to every ball and didn't change throughout game we did have measure of control briefly but other than that we looked scared disjointed and lacked cohesion.. very similar to a lot of our games.. try playing strongest side 1st half said when saw team no good having strong bench if you're chasing game by time use it? And that's precisely what happened again...hes not learned from other games we've played against our rivals he keeps doing similar setups.... try attacking 1st half never know might work better than being defensive.

Riza you might not have a good crowd like you state ?
Which will all be down to you and your lack of tactics,
i thought you where the attcking coach ffs try attacking,
and look to win it.
Alnwick had more touches than anyone that says it all every game we need to take it to any team and attack,
not all this defensive bollocks keep it tigh ffs
What and wait and see what the other team do,
perhaps riza instead of sitting in the stand at stoke he should have gone to watch pompey play and devised a plan of how to attack we went long most of the game sending long balls upto Robinson who cannot jump at the best of times,
and perhaps it was' nt so much going long deleberatly,
it was a case of alnwick having to launch it as he was under pressure to clear it or the defensive kept passing it back because they don' t know how to go forward.

Monty the players fo not know how to go forward at last home game we have 4 free kicks just inside other half we didn't hit it long we simply passed it sideways and eventually backwards ! Tonight wasn't much better take free kick similar position ends up desperately defending our goal .... and this goes on game after game.. no wonder stats for possession in opposition box is low compared to othe teams ..... we simply don't put into area until last 10mins or so especially when losing .... they fo say attack is best form of defence riza obviously hasn't read the memo neither as purse!

We only put ball in middle after el gazi came on but it was sporadically accurate not enough to create anything except for Robinsons volley at keeper ... again that's been story of season last 10mins we attack and put ball in middle but its an haphazard approach more out desperation than organised attacking play

Ultimately the players need to take responsibility for their performances as professional sportsmen YOU MUST WIN YOUR PERSONAL BATTLES IN A RELEGATION DOGFIGHT ELSE YOU WILL BE RELEGATED !!!

Agree with this, we were second to everything in the second half.

Apparently their manager gave them a bollocking halftime for letting us back into game? Hence their approach at start of it ......which we couldn't master as we've got no idea how to keep up sustained pressure on any team!
