Conway yesterday

Sun Feb 03, 2013 8:14 pm

Thought Bull offered very little yesterday in terms of quality. Worked his bollocks off can't argue with that but too many times he gave the ball away with bad touches. I like Bull but I do question his quality.

A 'beginning of season' Noone would be good tonic.

He is better defensively than Noone that is why he starts :malky:

I agree with this and why he started before noone :ayatollah:

The guy plays like he is hell bent on playing Premiership football next season. :D

Re: Conway yesterday

Sun Feb 03, 2013 8:21 pm

Conway is not Premier League standard

He's not even a noted Championship player.

You are saying he is better defensively. But what is that supposed to mean? he is probably better defensively than Aaron Lennon but why are we seeking to play our best 'defensive' players?

Re: Conway yesterday

Sun Feb 03, 2013 8:23 pm

conway starts more away cos we do more defending, but noone starts more at home cos he's better at attacking and we attack more at home!... i like how we can mix and match players in the same positions cos of the depth we now have! :ayatollah:

Re: Conway yesterday

To be fair, I thought a few players looked a bit off the pace.

Yet we still had enough in the tank to grind out the win.

Re: Conway yesterday

Sun Feb 03, 2013 8:26 pm

There is also the flip side of the coin that we may not have to defend as much if we play more attacking players. A bit like the jacks (excuse the comparison).

I feel conway away from home offers little in the counter attacking department as he is, let's be honest, not the quickest.
We have seen examples of Noone breaking from defence and in no time ending up in the opposition penalty area causing mayhem.

Re: Conway yesterday

Sun Feb 03, 2013 8:28 pm

Conway works his socks off every single game, all to help the cause, to help us achieve Premiership football. And that's all we can ask.

Re: Conway yesterday

Sun Feb 03, 2013 8:49 pm

I always find with Conway he starts games off a little slow but grows into them and hit fitness for quite a broad guy is excellent.

Re: Conway yesterday

Sun Feb 03, 2013 9:05 pm

I see where you are coming from 2b2h... but his fitness SHOULD be excellent. He is quite broad chested if you like but I don't see how he should be less fitter than say a craig noone who is 'skinnier'.

Re: Conway yesterday

Sun Feb 03, 2013 9:07 pm

conways delivery is right up there with the very best in the championship, defence work great and he can produce something out of nothing, only downside hes not the quickest and struggles when he gets closed down by more than one player.

Re: Conway yesterday

Sun Feb 03, 2013 9:16 pm

Hmm his delivery is inconsistent but commonly good. Then again Liam Lawrence had a Premier League delivery on him.

Agreed. It took them a good while to wake up but when we did we made it count.

You mean the guy who created the perfectly good disallowed goal?

I see what you saying but then again Bellamy has no right to be fitter than a lot of players.

Maybe it's not fitness but just pure work ethic.

Maybe it's Conway keeps the ball better.
Noone is an attacking player who will try and beat a player so would naturally lose the ball more.

We have Noone, Smith, Kim, Conway who all play wide and all very different types of players.

Being a tough away game Conway defends better and Noone, and he did put a shift in :ayatollah:

Re: Conway yesterday

very true 2blue... we have variety which is good.

as for Natman. 'perfectly good disallowed goal'? Im confused. It was offside. The goal was neither good as it wasn't a goal nor was it perfect. Not to say the original cross wasn't okay though.

Re: Conway yesterday

Sun Feb 03, 2013 9:36 pm

Bellamy was offside.

Conway has more of a drive about him than probably all our other wingers, defensively sound as well a good balance too him.

Re: Conway yesterday

Sun Feb 03, 2013 9:38 pm

Thought Conway has been outstanding.. his pre season was the best by a mile and he found it hard to get to grips of the games he started after he never even got a start against Huddersfield.

He has been fantastic imo.

Can see why he starts away from home, he helps out in the defence area and can always cause problems with a cross.

We see away games out because of players like Conway who work until the final whistle.

I can see why he doesn't start Noone but I reckon thats something we are lacking away from home is the danger of counter attacks.. against Blackburn he was brilliant him and Conway.

Re: Conway yesterday

Sun Feb 03, 2013 9:39 pm

i personally av seen more positive performances from noone than conway...

malky seems to prefer conway at the moment, but i cant ever say ive been on the edge of my seat with him ever, whereas noone is an exciting player to watch..

I can't believe some of you are still knocking Conway. The stick Conway is still getting is quite incredible. Conway was our second best performer at Blackpool behind Kim-Bo imo, his defensive work has helped Taylor out who is now looking a much better left back with a worker like Conway in front of him. Conway has chipped in with a couple of goals and a fair share of assists as well and I think the fact we have conceded only 2 goals in our last 11 and a half hours of football shows the difference Conway is making. What more can he do? I swear some of you are expecting him to perform like Ronaldo or Messi every game, it's astonishing!

Seeing away games out with him in the team is much more easier and less intense.

His hard work makes up for a lack of quality imo. He doesn't have that many assists and btw its one goal. It's not enough. FACT. He is hard working but he isn't a top championship player. Some fans don't see the reality. Conway rarely beats a man and turns away in directions where a cross is not possible.

Enough for what? We are top of the league by ten points, Malky knows what he's doing, nothing about being blind. If a change is coming we have the quality in depth. But at the mo he's more than earning his place in the XI.

Didn't think it looked offside from the highlights. Besides, outstanding cross

Like he did at Leicester you mean, where he kept twisting and turning, until he was in a better position to get a cross in, which Bellamy tucked away nicely, after Conway's good work!

I know he's not as exciting a player as Noone, but his all round game is better IMO!

Noone looks great running at defenders, but he puts us under a lot of pressure when he loses possession, which he does regularly!

This is clearly why Cowie has replaced him in a couple of our most recent home matches, as Malky has looked to close the game out!

I'm pretty certain that Noone was not chosen to play at Blackpool,, due to the condition of the pitch, where it was clearly not so easy to run at players with the ball!

Malky got his tactics and team selection spot on there, where Conway's & Kimbo's better technical abilities, saw them as close motm's!

Noone will still be needed in our run in and I'm sure he'll get us excited quite a few more times this season, but ATM, it's nice to have some good competition for places and seeing Malky using horses for the right courses!
