As usual with The Sun it's not the full story. Net immigration actually fell last year. The majority of the 200,000 people given passports have already been U.K. resident for over 5 years.
It's entry via the allocation of student visas that remains the biggest concern and where it seems quite simple to play/con the system. The assorted various public bodies do not work together to nulify these loopholes. There were plans to set up a dedicated border control organisation which would have helped coordinate all information. I'm not sure if this was ever progressed.

Skilled engineers? In what field? I've not come across an engineering discipline wher we are
Crying out for foreigners? Software? We can train british people. Architecture/ heavy engineering?

As for doctors? Well its blatantly obvious we need more doctors. WHY? Because the NHS is sinking
Under a sea of immigration. It is estimated we need 100 new doctors A WEEK just to cope with the
Tide of ILLEGAL immigrants and alleged 'foreign students' flooding the country every day. Stop the
Immigration and the pressure is off the NHS.

Also there is a question to why we haven't trained enough of these people ourselves and are we denying our own people golden oppotunity to advance themselves?

There are plenty of British skilled professionals out of work in Britain alone. There are plenty of European projects that Britain could have done alone. With the skilled work for ce we coul dhave quite easily competed and kept ahead. Sadly the Governments of today have sold out to the big corporations who can now employ cheaper workforce. European projects have been sent abroad because its cheaper but advantage the big companies here.

The British person has been sold out by the Governments o fthe day and Labour in their 10 years of power have accelerated this process faster than any other Government. Labour have sold out simple.

i don't think the tories will stop skilled professionals coming to this country at all, they said they would get the numbers down to tens of thousands instead of hundreds of thousands surely doctors and nurses will be in those tens of thousands how many do we bloody need, also when they come here to work it should be only to work no to settle here indefinetly they should be on contracts that come up for renewal every few years, exactly the same as say a british nurse would be on in saudi arabia once the contract is finished they either renew it or go home, there are phillipino nurses in this country who have only been here say 4 or 5 years and in that time had 2 children they have spent just as much time on maternity leave as they have in work it's costing the nhs a fortune they came to work not have bloody kids , this country needs to get tough with them if they get pregnant send them back.

Also under the past Labour Government and the present coalition the policy on non-EU immigration is to use a points based system. I find it impossible to believe a Doctor, Nurse or Engineer wouldn't score enough points to qualify for a work permit if they are needed that badly.

What we don't want or need is more unskilled or semi-skilled workers from outside the EU and the points system should in theory prevent them from coming here.
