World Cup Sweepstake

Following on from the other thread, who would be interested in a world cup sweepstake?

How about £5 to enter, with everyone getting a team selected at random.

1st Prize: £100
2nd Prize: £50
3rd Prize: £10

How does that sound? We could change the prize amounts, or give part to charity?

I can set up a webpage then with all the teams/details to track who's winning

Money wise, either through paypal, or myself or Annis or someone could possibly collect cash if it's easier?

Post on this thread if you want to take part. Once we've got 32 members I'll sort out the payment details etc.

It depends how much demand there is I guess, it would be first come first serve up to 32. We could always have a second if there was demand for it.

With regards to payment, if Annis or someone was willing to collect cash that could be one option if people are likely to see him. Alternatively I'll set up a paypal account or something so people can pay that way.

Oh right yeah, that could be an option.

I will have a think tonight and try and work out the best way. Obviously I'll get someone independent to do that bit, or I won't take part.

The other way I was thinking was, that everyone gets assigned a number (in order of when they signed up 1,2,3....)

There are plenty of 'random number generators' online that could be used to come up with a random sequence of numbers.

So we'd put numbers 1-32 into the generator, and it comes out with a list. see here put 1 and 32 in the boxes, then press 'get sequence' to see what I mean

if the countries are sorted alphabetically (or any other way) we match up the countries to the random list of numbers.

So say we randomize the numbers and we get:

23
5
18
6

that would mean:

23 : Algeria
5 : Argentina
18: Australia
6: Brazil

It would be recorded or something to make sure there was no cheating, but that might be a good way of doing it?

The participants then get an email with a link to the draw. You can then watch the draw live at the time chosen.
Sounds pretty good.
Just need to sort out the money side of it now!

32 envelopes each with a team inside, you buy an envelope your name goes on it, all the envelopes are opened after final

i was given a suggestion which was too late for our one in work, but it went along the lines of 2 or 3 money back bogie prizes so it keeps an interest for the players with shit teams

along the lines of but not limited too

team in the group stages with most foul points (red=2 yellow=1)
team in the group stages with most goals scored against
team in the group stages conceding the most penelties

paypal payment seems the easiest, no running around for anyone then
