This "Egg" thing

Fri Jul 30, 2010 10:39 pm

Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion , but I have never seen on here (or on Mike`s board where people make the same claim) anyone even attempt to back up their claim that the CCFC board is made up of "eggers".

I have looked at the list of current directors of all 3 companies involved in the club (football, stadium and holdings) and honestly can`t see any evidence to support the claim.

Can someone on here with a different opinion PLEASE list the directors and explain how they are rugby supporters.

Good evening Keith,

Mike Hall 100 % Egghead.
Paul Guy No interest in City Whats soever, his business partner is Pure Egg and Both attend many many Egg games.
Then they brought in another Egg Gethin Jenkins.

ITS PMG who in MY OPINION ARE HOLDING CARDIFF CITY TO RANSOM and HOLDING CARDIFF CITY BACK.

THEY HAVE NO INTEREST IN FOOTBALL WHATSOEVER OR CARDIFF CITY FOOTBALL CLUB.

Hiya Annis

Mike Hall hasn`t been a director since Langston launched their first legal claim against the club ages ago.

According to Julian Jenkins when I asked him , Gethin Jenkins has been on the CCFC fan database and attended loads of games over several years.

Paul Guy I might agree with. But I tend to think he is more a businessman interested in possible property deals rather than either a football fan or a rugby one.

I think everyone will agree Steve Borley is a City fan.

Does Michael Isaacs have any rugby links? I am not aware of any.

And I am pretty sure that neither TG nor Vincent Tan`s son have ever attended a rugby match.

That just leaves the new finance director.I have no idea what his sporting allegiances are. Does anyone else?

This is the point I am trying to make. Whatever their weaknesses , actual or perceived , there is no evidence at all that they are "eggers". Yet this badging seems to have stuck with them without question since it was first attributed to them.

But Julian Jenkins told me , to my face , that he had checked and found G Jenkins to have been a regular City fan for some time. In fact , Julian dismissed claims that G Jenkins was a rugby fan as a "nonsense". And G Jenkins wasn`t present in the room when he said it.

So either Julian is changing his story for different audiences or he is maybe not as reliable a source of stories from within the club as it might seem.

I have to comment on this 1 myself, who cares and does it matter if people who has a large say in our Club come from a rugby backround, they sould be judged on how they run our club and not where they have come from. This "egg" thing dont wash with me 1 bit, people swar it is a crime to follow 2 diffrent sports.

Hate the sport Rugby. We were forced to play it at school as they did not allow football. I will always hold it against the sport rugby for that.

I dont share the same feeling with other about having the rugby sharing the same ground as us. As long as the ground remains the ownership of a football club that will suite me. Besides what why to show that it not our number one sport. One week we have 20,000 football fans in the stadium the following week a couple of thousand egg chasers. Hopefull the sport rugby will die here in the principality.

As far as the board goes PMG = Egg chasing. The main component being Mike Hall. I dont care if he is not a director, he is PMG and therefore they are egg chasers. Soon as we get rid if any sniff of egg at board level the better.

Re: This "Egg" thing

The reality is that a large proportion of rugby followers follow both sports and this perceived division is grossly exaggerated. Indeed, when you look at the top rugby players, it is notable how many also played football and/or follow football - Gareth Thomas, Gareth Edwards, Scott Quinnell just to name a few from the Welsh rugby hall of fame.

Rugby-loving football fans are no different to other parts of society. During the so-called "dark days", many rugby followers had limited interest in CCFC because like all sports followers there is a natural tendency to prefer the better quality/higher profile offering that is football in the top two divisions, but particularly the Premiership. That tendency is not exclusive to football-loving eggers and explains why many of the better known rugby players of today tend to have an allegiance to Man Utd, Arsenal or Liverpool and are not so visible in the context at CCFC. One assume that with continuing success, this will gradually change.

Inevitably, a better performing CCFC attracts old and new fans, and many of these will also be rugby followers. At a practical and commercial level, and when one considers the relatively small populations of Cardiff and Wales in general, the so-called eggers should be welcomed with open arms at CCFC and their interest celebrated not knocked.

I say this as a shameless follower of both sports, and others.

Well the example of me and my mates.

Me - footy first and foremost, but I've played a bit of rugby and watch it occassionally
My mates from Caerphilly who go with me

A. City 1st, but also watches all the Wales internationals.
J. City first but will watch wales rugby if he can get a ticket
S. Blues St holder, comes to most City matches
K. City and wales footy - hates rugby (GRAPES !)
K. City 1st, but will also watch rugby occassionally
S. ditto
J. City 1st, but coaches rugby
I. Use to play top level rugby, but is City 1st, enjoys internationals and occassionally watches the Blues
N. City 1st but also enjoys rugby
T. ditto
M. Ex rugby player now City ST holder
W. Ex-rugby player and now coaches it - City ST holder
H. Ex-rugby player and now City St holder.

On our coach to Wembley there must have been at least 20 'dual code' lads.
If we are going to be abig club we are going to have to accept that rugby exists and that many of our fans are going to also be interested in rugby.

As for the directors, well Mike Hall isn't one.
Jenkins likes both, Guy has abit of an interest in both, Isaacs , Borely and Whitely are all footy guys. TG and Tan jnr. probably don't know what a rugby ball looks like.

Some did, but most of the boys I mentioned in my post were fans then as well.

There were definately plenty of the rubgy fratenity who looked down on us. My games teacher hated the fact that at 15 i used to come down to Cardiff to play for a parks footy side rather than the school rugby team, and I've had plenty of noses turned up at me for being a City fan, mind you it was just as bad with the Liverpool and Man U supporting majority.

I just don't think its that bad any more. Everyone knows we are BY FAR the biggest sporting club in Wales and most rugby fans want to see Premiership footy here. Some don't because they fear for their own game, but the vast majority like both.

There is plenty I don't like, like the blanket coverage in the papers, the fact that the councils spend thousands on rugby pitches and then leave the local soccer clubs to play on dog-shit covered swamps, the constand hype of any Wales rugby player (feckin wales on Sunday does my head in), but as Cardiff City we are big enough and strong enough to see beyond all this and it is to our BENEFIT as a club to work WITH the rugby community rather than against it.

Boys in school used to take the p1ss out of me for being a City fan, as they supported Liverpool or Man U.
It didn't bother me as they were all shit players, so i'd be laughing at them in the playground

Annis you see what goes on at the club more than most, so you know more than most. But do you honestly think the full blame on the current mess is the "egg" men? The Riddler have really left us in a huge black hole, and it is a hole that I fell we may not fill for a long time unless we have a major cash injection off some one soon.
