MONDAY UPDATE

Mon Aug 09, 2010 2:36 pm

As you heard here first last week the deal that sends Ross to Ipswich and Jon Stead back this way with a payment off £500k coming City's way is happening and could be finalised over the next day or so. The strange thing about this deal is that Ross is on £10k pw here and Stead is on £12k pw there and his wife has just had a new born and apparently they are settled down there so there is much work to be done to get this deal done but someone who has very close connections to the club assures me it is most definately on.

Lee Naylor has not been at the club today and his agent is doing his best to get him into a Premier League club, City have not given up on him and are still working hard to get his signature. Naylor's agent is none other than Joe Ledley's agent Dave Baldwin.

The last I heard on Olofinjana was that the wages were a stumbling block and this afaik has not changed but my contacts are still digging to get me more info.

With Keogh, I think much will depend on whether the deal happens with Ross as he would be seen as the replacement for Ross.

It could happen as soon as tomorrow Jez.

Yesterday I took Angharad in o the ground early to meet Macca and Koumas but I'll be in the Ninian for Donny :ayatollah:

Re: MONDAY UPDATE

Sounds like a good deal to me :ayatollah:

It could become even better if we also get Keogh and hang on to Whitts ;)

Re: MONDAY UPDATE

More fall out from the Chopra gamble that failed; McCormack's fall from grace as a £5m rated player to a bloated drunkard worth barely a fifth of that. Shocking management. Stead is a decent player, but hardly mouth watering and I would very much hope for more from a player with such a high wage.

Hope Naylor & Keogh come off, will be fine additions, so too Olofinjana, though the huge wages must surely be a concern. Indeed, most if not all of the players linked with us, or in Koumas case have signed, are mainly big earners and raises concerns with me given this was an area we were supposed be looking to trim given the new direction we were quite rightly supposed to be taking given our rather grave and pressing financial issues

Stead will be a good back-up for Jay which is what we need more than any other position in my opinion (Ithink Drinkwater will do a job alonside Koumas or McPhail to solve the CM problem). However, he is on a big wage and you make a very good point.

I suppose we just have to trust that TG knows what he can afford and hope that the longer-term plan is also in hand. They haven't done much wrong so far and I tend to trust his judgement far more than the Riddler

Wouldn't call 20 goals in the league a gamble that failed. Lack of service cost him, but let's be brutally honest - Ross scored 23, thabout half of which were penalties. Take those out, scored as many as Bothroyd that season.

Open play, the question is who will score more - Chops or Ross? It's not even a question, the answer is Chops by a mile.

Stead would be servicable backup for Jay, something we desparately need.

We got rid of what, then so far - add in Ross if he goes - that creates some wiggle room in the wage bill. May well be those coming in still lead to a lower wage bill than last season.

Re: MONDAY UPDATE

think its time for ross to go now ,shame but he hasnt seemed interested since last year and with his exploits in the cardiff bars perhaps its time for him to move on as with other players coming in he,ll find himself down the pecking order even more .as for stead hes a decent footballer and for a big guy has got good feet so he,ll do a job to replace jay when needed.

Re: MONDAY UPDATE

Not dounbting that Driver, indeed back up to Bothroyd has been a huge hole in the squad since he's been here, but £12k a week for a player that is hardly going to play doesn't make sense.

Nerd, will direct you hear ref Chopra viewtopic.php?f=2&t=19323&p=186636#p186636.

Cheers for the update Carl. I've just had news that Olofinjana has passed a medical. Any news of that deal?

Cheers for the update Carl.

Re: MONDAY UPDATE

Mon Aug 09, 2010 3:20 pm

DJ to leave.

Martin O'Neill to join.

Possibly. Or maybe not.

Re: MONDAY UPDATE

Mon Aug 09, 2010 3:26 pm

As far as Naylor is concerned I'm not sure full back is the main priority at the moment.

We have Darcy who can play there as well as Kev, Adam Matthews and Quinn.

Of more importance is still a midfield battler and cover for Jay.

Ross is a shadow of his former self unfortunately. Best for all concerned if he gets a fresh start.

Re: MONDAY UPDATE

Mon Aug 09, 2010 3:33 pm

Forget Naylor. A Central Midfielder and a Striker as cover for Chops and that should do.

Ultimately a shame, I think Ross has suffered from not enough game time. Can't be good sat on the bench all the time and then only being given 20 mins to do something.

If he does go then I hope it works out for him :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I see over on the other board they are claiming to have got one over you about ross and your 27 mins too late but the idiots who wrote it dont realise that it was you who told us first days ago

Eddie i will put the info out as and when I can, if that proves to be after somebody else has written it elsewhere then so be it, if it happens to be days before others then same applies.

I don't think Mike is getting involved in the games to be fair but others are just having a laugh, just chill and stay here and you will here the latest news.

Re: MONDAY UPDATE

Getting rid of Ross is a HUGE mistake.
Ipswich much be pinching themselves over this deal.

Re: MONDAY UPDATE

Blackpool for nailor.
Funny thing blackpool winning promotion means they are now looking at the same wage range as us.
added bonus of staying in premier league.

Excellent, thanks for the updates mate, they really are greatley appreciated :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Re: MONDAY UPDATE

Stead has definitely got the ability, so hopefully DJ can get the best out of him.

If Keogh joins as well we'd be unstoppable. He really is top draw, and both can play in either the Jay role of a faster poacher role, so we have adequate back up for both positions.

I hope Naylor joins, is he a left back or right back though?

Also, we definitely need to add some steal in midfield. What happened to the pre-season rumours of Nick Montgomery?

How can it be silly business when Ross cost us £125,000 and we getting Stead +£500,000
