Cardiff City to open talks imminently with Sabri Lamouchi about him leading club next season

Lamouchi will have to work under a transfer embargo and have to bring in loans and free agents as well as clear out many from Cardiff's existing squad.

Cardiff City chairman Mehmet Dalman says talks will open "imminently" with Sabri Lamouch about him leading the Bluebirds again next season.

Dalman is keen for Lamouchi to stay on board after what he describes as "mission accomplished" with the threat of relegation to League One having been eased.

The Cardiff chief was due to speak to Lamouchi in the aftermath of the 2-1 home loss to Huddersfield to thrash out the way forward. He thanked Lamouchi, assistant Sol Bamba and the other staff, as well as the players, for the work they had done in spearheading Cardiff's recent revival.

Lamouchi is aware of the restrictions Cardiff might have to work under next season, with a transfer embargo still in place, but he appears keen to tie down a new deal.

MEHMET DALMAN:

"Sabri is very open and communicative," said Dalman. "It's fair to say we'll be talking imminently. I'm very impressed with him, he's a proper manager. I'm hopeful he will stay, there's no reason to believe his thoughts will be any different to ours."

Dalman explained the final say would be down to Cardiff's billionaire owner Vincent Tan. "That's only right as our major shareholder," said Dalman.

"All the managers that get hired are by our owner, not by me or anyone else."

"Everything that gets decided is by our owner no one else and if Sabri is offered a new contract it will be our owners decision."

"But when we asked him to step up and get Sabri on board, he did exactly that which was the right thing for the football club."

Sabri Lamouchi now speaks out and says he wants to talk about the future with the hierarchy:

Lamouchi’s contract finishes after the Burnley away game in May.

Sabri Lamouchi:

‘Now I know my team. 90 days working together, 49-50 sessions, 16 games, 19 goals, 20 points.”

“I have some ideas. Now we have to discuss what the club want to do.”

“I'm just the manager, so I can only impact on my players. That's what I'm trained to do. I'm happy here.’

“I have asked about new contacts, I have asked about certain players , but I am yet to hear anything.”

“I don’t hear from the top, we don’t have conversations, but we can now discuss the future.”

SABRI LAMOUCHI:

“I want to stay, but I need to know who I can sign and who I can offer new contracts too.”

"It's not my decision. Not only my decision. Of course, I am free to decide, but I am happy here. I was surprised, honestly, when they called me, the situation of the club. I said yes because of the club. It's a massive club and they deserve to stay in the Championship. I'm proud about that."

“I have asked about players contracts and never had replies from above, so now hopefully I will get them.”

Lamouchi has previously hinted that a number of things would have to change in order for the club to start battling at the top end of the table next season if he were to remain in charge. He reiterated that if the club's ambition is to challenge for the play-offs and beyond next season, then they cannot expect to make little changes and get big results.

"In my opinion, if you are doing just a little change, don't be surprised if you have just something a little different," he said. "I don't think the owner, chairman or people in the club, the fans, want to live the same season again and again . Obviously we need a massive decision from the club. Because we were so close [to relegation]. But we will play next season in the Championship, where Cardiff City Football Club are meant to be."

He said: "I am focused only on my job every day. I am available 24 hours a day. For me, we deserve to talk about that not next week, the week before. Now we are safe, we will probably meet and talk about the future of the club, the most important thing."

Cardiff would not have wanted to finish the season at home on such a disappointing note, but the 2-1 defeat by Neil Warnock's side was a poor showing. While he is unhappy with his side's display, Lamouchi is proud of their achievement over the last few months.

t is not exactly how we want to finish our season but, as I said to the players, one month ago… we would have paid to be safe before this game," he said of the game. "Of course we are not happy, but our goal was to stay in the Championship and Cardiff deserve to be in the Championship, so job done.

"At the beginning of the season there were 17 new players, and I'm the third manager [but] we made it, we saved the club. It is a massive achievement. Three months ago I signed for this massive club and said there is enough quality to stay in the Championship and we did it."

The politician again quite clearly saying it's nothing to do with him so if he can't make any decisions why not just pack his bags full of some more cash and bugger off and take Arthur Daley with you.

Cardiff owners are the exact opposite of Wrexham owners..they engage with fans community have a clear plan of where they want to go..that energises fans ..we are the worst run club ..lazy managerial appointments..player recruitment that has no plans or strategy...when Sam took over the whole city was energised..unfortunately today with total apathy at club we have ludicrous situation of fans of a capital city club interested in how a little town in North Wales Divisions below them are doing hopefully something changes this summer ownership wise but if not its more of same boring rubbish again

No change there then !

Half promises that never materialise
False hope from people who don’t care about the Club and fans
They are offering Lamouchi the same as the last three managers
If I was him I’d turn away from this tedious bullshit and go to a club that shares his ambitions
FFS Tan man up and pay the Sala transfer and start again, it’s peanuts when you look at the money involved in the premier league

Looks like the same shit different season

Tan you got in too deep get out of football and concentrate on fried chicken

Yes needs to be sorted ASAP so he can plan for next season.

No chance of Kipre coming here the WBA said he can't believe he was loaned out.

Think a few other people will be interesting in Philo aswell next season.

Hoping we play with wingers next season and some width

I can already see the issue here.

Sabri wants to stay, they want him to stay.

But he said he wants to know who he can sign and offer new contracts to.

If they say he can't spend because the embargo can't be sorted, I would expect him to walk and wouldn't blame him.

Then we'll end up with Purse, who is struggling massively with the U21s.

I don't predict a good summer ahead. Desperately want Sabri to stay, but not hopeful.

Re: ' Mehmet Dalman / Sabri Lamouchi '

I certainly think Sabri has done enough to be offered the job.
Credit to him as he he kept us in the Championship with players brought in by other managers when things looked grim.
He clearly realises that we need big changes again this summer to progress to the levels we all expect.
His quote ' Obviously we need a massive decision from the club' surely relates to the lifting of the embargo to enable him to bring in the quality he requires to succeed in his ambition.

I also feel that if the embargo is not going to be removed, he may not stay with us.
If this happens, don't expect anything other than another relegation battle under a manager with less ambition.

Give Sabri and Sol the job to start next season they have earned it - Any problems with the contracts ....

Get Choo to chuck in a few cars ( nice little run around - 1 lady owner ) ;)

I disagree. I think Sabri will stay regardless of the transfer embargo.
I think he'll be given funds to improve the squad with his own players albeit loans and free's.

I also think he'll bring in a better standard of player.

Of course, if the embargo is lifted which I believe it might then happy days as I think Tan will make a relatively small amount available then.

There's no way they'll install Purse.
