MANY SAYING THEY WILL NOT RENEW FOR NEXT SEASON?

Mon May 01, 2023 1:50 pm

I have been a Cardiff City supporter all my life. Born a (relative) stones throw from the stadium(s), it is in my blood, so I cannot envisage a time when I would not renew

Everyone will have their reasons but to hear (quote Abergavenny) "25 year + season ticket holders" say "no more" raises the question 'why exactly?' when surely they have seen worse times, worse league positions, and worse owners in that time?

Whilst I can understand some of the 'new wave' support from 'giving up', as they've only seen relatively good times since Sam pulled this club out of the doldrums and galvanised its support, simply blaming Tan doesn't cut it for me. There are surely other reasons; some beyond football..

Some, and Worcester_CCFC is one of those (I know there are others) live further afield yet still commit their time, money and effort to their beloved club

Not particularly aimed at Abergavenny (he simply raised the topic) but what genuine reasons do members on here have for withdrawing their support in full or in part...?

I’m sure I’ll be there but……it’s just not entertaining or fun anymore. The older I get the more I prioritise my time

been going every season since 1977, and home and away since 1982, and europe, it was great.

but 5 years ago i said no more whilst tan, dalman and choo ruined our club, in one shape or another.

they leave and i'll snap a season ticket up straight away, even in national league, but whilst they remain, not even interested in being in premiership with them, they are bent as hell.

they make clemo and ridsdale look like saints!

SVEN

Perhaps a lot of dros football the last few seasons this one in particular fans got spoilt with the prem season and lets be honest its gone down hill since
but its the way things have been run also lack of interest from supporters the owner the board
scratch teams no ambition court proceedings no feel good factor whatsoever
I said on other topic bristol at home and rotherham away are the best 2 games for me
granted have not been to many myself this season due to unforseen
We all want kabu to stay along with philogene kipre but will the board sign them because i doubt they will come back on loan so will they pay up all money owing
So your guess is as good as mine but i think general feeling is no feel good factor in the offing for the future no exitment
I also think thats why the away days have been more enjoyable rather than a half empty stadium.

I witness this in the last 70's. I think we went down to 2000 ST's.

We had a fluc of new ST's when we got to the FA Cup final. Our numbers doubled to 17K. We have held our own since then until the last couple of seasons. I can honestly see us dropping below 10K if we have another season like this.

If the only way we can get Tan to listen or take action is buy hitting the club financially, then so be it. Make a stand and don't renew your season tickets. The team is consisted of freebies and loans , so no love lost there. The manager deserves another season for his efforts, but not been at the club long enough to have earned the loyalty of the fans. The club needs to change now. :bluescarf:

Tan's apathy has filtered down to many supporters. You can surely see that Vincent is running
the club on empty. He has a semi decent manager in there at the moment, will he clear the debt
lifting the embargo, or is it another season of doom & gloom?
It's a two way street, in an entertainment business which (let's face it) hasn't entertained at home again
this season? Supporters will look t spend their hard earned elsewhere.
The club needs an injection of life, personnel & direction else numbers will continue to dwindle.
The ball is very much in Mr Tan's court, people are watching, his next move is critical. :bluebird:

Tough times for many. Still on the fence of whether I’ll be going next season (probably will be).

But at the same time, it’s the same for people I go with. If they decide they’re not going, then neither am I as I’d rather not be voluntarily spending my weekends watching some of the dross served up. Even this season I’ve had moments of envy of some of my mates having an afternoon and lunch in the pub whilst I’m sat watching us fail to score a goal.

Respect to those who can hack it

What else are you going to do with your time? Once it's gone, you'll struggle to get it back.

I'm late 30s, so early 90s till modern day. A large chunk of that has been poor and I still keep coming back. Loyalty is showing up, even when the chips are down for those handful of glorious moments like last Thursday

Chris, for what its worth, match day for me used to be an experience. Even in Division 4, I couldnt even bring myself to say we played rubbish. Cardiff City has always been a starstruck relationship.

Now, there is no relationship, no glamour, no news, a huge sense of apathy at board level. I think the fans can see a longer term picture and it isnt good. Good times seem a long long way away.

I really feel now is make or break time in terms of support. Before we do anything else, fractures have to be healed. Fan against fan, fan against the board, and the board against the fan.

Id say it would be great to start with a clean slate in the summer, but that works both ways.

Next season if things remain as they are currently, our crowds will drop significantly and the relationship between the fans and club, and vice verse will be held together by a single thread

May be generalising but alot of youngsters nowadays are quick to give up on things when it becomes hard. Or not as enjoyable.
And this season has definitely been both, I will still be there next season though, trying to brainwash the next generation youngsters into being Cardiff fans for life.
We've had a good run the last 20 years and if you'd told me when I started following us at 30 odd years ago I'd go to Wembley 4 times and be in the top tier twice I would never have believed you.

Spot on.

I am not blindly loyal, I have only ever supported one club but the dungeon years were from the football echo and the occasional parks washout or a mid-week game with 4K others because let's face it, if the Casual scene wasn't your thing the entertainment was shit.

This season there has been that vibe for me, if Vinny can't be arsed, then why should I, as he told us a decade ago, we are only customers, they will come if the product is good and all the old moaning fans will be replaced.....How the tables have turned.

With our championship place secured, and season ticket announcement; I was buying mine and my daughters tomorrow, but after yesterday's debacle i had a case of the "fcuk thems".

I will buy (2) but not with the same conviction since we moved into the CCS

Re: MANY SAYING THEY WILL NOT RENEW FOR NEXT SEASON?

A lot of supporters by me are not renewing and I understand why, this season has been very poor if Reading kept their 6 point deduction we be down with Wigan & Blackpool we cannot keep relying on teams getting points deducted.

Next season the teams coming up and going to be hard to beat as they are big clubs plus we could have 3 teams coming down who got rich owners who will ant to go back up plus the teams above us too all want to do better.

Tan does not want to own us any more all he is interested in is fighting court cases he cant win and costing us big time plus he puts people in charge who seem to know nothing about football Dalman a politician a wealthy one and Choo who is Tans idiot.

A lot of supporters can see next season even worse than this one meaning relegation I think it will be very low uptake on season tickets especially in the beginning a lot of supporters will wait and see what happens over the summer

As a non renwer for next year after following since the 90s and having an ST for over 15 years, I can offer quite a few reasons why.

However, when people have posted them on here in tge past they get slated for them from a minority who live in thier own echo chamber and cannot undetstand an alternative view. I'm not sure you'll get the answers you want but in a nutshell (and i mean nutshell) reasons are probably a mix of, if not all of:

Quality on the pitch, flat, repetative matchday experience, crap transport links / high transport costs if commuting in to cardiff, disengagement since rebrand, shameful and dishonest saga after saga from the board, more and more games live on red button / frequent movement of KO times clashing with work, people getting older and starting families, cost of living crisis, people not identifying with the club anymore since some of the actions listed above, club being sold to fans as a buisness / supporters beung made to feel as customers killing "blind faith and support" / sense of club, general feeling of a club run on empty from an absentee owner and board who cant be bothered, so why should we?, best form of protest is to hit them where they can see it, financially, as all the blue protests did sod all really until people syopped going, ultimatley resulting in a crowd under 5k for an fa cup game which brought about change.

None if tgat is in any order of importance

For me, its a combo of all of them above being felt over the last few years, culminating in me not attending games as regularly. The disgraceful handing of the Sala transfer has really made me question my affiliation to an owner and board that ruins the image and reputation of the club. The lies of transfers too and the "money being there" for Nantes has really made me not want to put another penny in to the club until they are gone. Also, if the ditectirs cannot be arsed to show up and at least try and run the club in a half decemt manner, why should I? Let alone continue to fund them to work in this manner? I wish they made Borely or someone similar Director or chair...he at least knows the club and seems to care for it.

So an ST makes no sense at this time...i probably will end up back at some point, but I just want a break from all the shite, and hopefully rediscover my passion through absence by which time, we have new onwners who care for the club and its supporters.....not its "brand and its customers"

Chris, for me it is down to the direct result of cost after moving far west lol, kept going for a few years and as many will know I give Mr Tan benefit of the doubt until recently which brought me to my decision of wtf am I paying him to pay the politician and barristers? I want my money spent on players not bothered with Premier league but want the club challenging for cups and titles,

As you say Chris, I travel two hours to every home game (barring train strikes).

I'll continue to do that and will be renewing later this week :bluebird:

Been going home and away since 1976. First job tomorrow morning renew my season ticket. 100% seen worse times but it’s not all about the football it’s the people match day catching up with fans you have known for donkeys years.Love our club to be successful on and off the pitch but never a dull moment following The Mighty Bloooobirds.

It’s strange but talking to supporters yesterday at the game not one person said they weren’t renewing. Appreciate there was a promotion on tickets but overall we sold 28,600 tickets for the match so plenty of fair weather fans ready to get back on board when we eventually taste a bit more success.

I am not withdrawing my support I have had a season ticket for 40 odd years I paid £760 for my season ticket last year and for many years before that I am not getting value for the season Our mid week games use to be on a Tuesday night but in recent years they have moved to Wednesday and I am committed most Wednesday to a charitable organisation for most of them during the season So missed most mid week games.
Also I have to travel around 120 miles to home games and mid week that has become more of an issue the older I am becoming especially during winter months .
I will still be at the vast majority of weekend games apart from when on holidays
So I will miss around 8 home because of these aspect So not worth having a season ticket. With home and away games I am sure i will get to around 25 to 30 games a season.

I can’t give it up. No mattter how bad it is for my mental health. I’m at an age when I should know better.

I blame my parents who got me hooked at the age of 8 in 1967. And to make things worse, I’ve done the same to my son, who resisted right up to the age of 17.

I’ve only ever given it up when I moved away in 1980s. But then I returned and gradually a combination of the South Wales Echo and a work colleague persuaded me to go “just once more” - and I was on it full time again.

It’s probably killing me, but I can’t help it - I’m CITY TILL I DIE. :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

We shall be renewing and travelling down from Rugby. Sometimes 3 hours each way.
The football has been terrible the last 2 years but that’s not the point. It’s in the blood and we always live in hope.

Re: MANY SAYING THEY WILL NOT RENEW FOR NEXT SEASON?

I have and always will be a fan of Cardiff City. However, I am finding it difficult to convince myself into committing to a season ticket following the season of the likes we have just witnessed.
I first visited Ninian Park as a youngster in 1970. Since 1974, I have had a season ticket.
As you can imagine, I am no longer a young man and don't get involved in the chanting so often these days. I have given up on away travel, due to family commitments and cost.
Yes, we have suffered bad times in the basement divisions, but even then, I loved standing under the camera stanchion in the Bob bank with a group of mates singing all the humorous songs. I frequently travelled to away matches.
Eventually, along came the promotions, cup finals and the wonderful new stadium.
However, since the last relegation from the Premiership, my mates have stopped going, one by one.
I no longer look forward to match day with the same enthusiasm. And on top of this, I have come home from most matches feeling very deflated in recent years.
It's easy for some of the younger fans to say they would be a supporter for life, always attending games. However, for most people, enthusiasm to always attend does slowly ebb away, to the degree that you only attend some games a season and not every match.
At this moment, I can only see me renewing if we bring in a few better quality players during the summer. If we rely on free signings and loan players again, I think I'll be an occasional attender......but will always remain a Cardiff City fan at heart.

Re: MANY SAYING THEY WILL NOT RENEW FOR NEXT SEASON?

Personally, me and the lad didn't renew last year and it will continue this year. Factors for us are

1. The lad plays for the local team and their KO times have shifted to mid morning/post noon so logistically a nightmare
2. Trains from our bit of the Valleys are non-existent - its all rail replacement and you're lucky to even get on by the time it gets to our local station.
3. Some quite severe family issues have cropped up and are a continuing issue.

Had it not been for these 3 issues our renewals would've been done on day 1 of the window.

Until the trains resolve themselves and the family issues get sorted, unfortunately its a no from us.

Also, as Tan himself said - we are mere customers. If customers don't like whats on offer they ain't buying! I'm sure if this was happening in one of his McD franchises he'd be all over it, sorting offers and the product. Sadly, he hasn't sorted any offers or increased the product offering. Customers will vote with their feet and seek out competitors product that gives better value for money or entertainment.
