Saturday 22nd July, 7pm
Pre-Season Friendly
Estadio Algarve

Cardiff City: Allsop; Ng, McGuinness, Goutas, O'Dowda; Ralls, Wintle; Ojo, Robinson, Grant; Ugbo.

Subs: Luthra, Bagan, Simpson, Collins, Romeo, Benjamin, Ramsey, Rinomhota, Evans, Colwill, Tanner, Adams, Etete.

This game will be live on Cardiff City TV in the UK, unfortunately it will not be avaliable on Cardiff City TV internationally.

Aaron Ramsey and Ryan Allsop both missed out against Braga but will get minutes in this game

Following on from the game against Braga on Wednesday night, Cardiff City continue their pre-season preparations in Portugal with another friendly on Saturday. This will be our toughest test of pre-season.

After this game, the Bluebirds will head back to the UK. The following Saturday, the final friendly will be at Wycombe Wanderers for Joe Jacobson's testimonial ahead of the season starting with Leeds United away.

Below are a few details on our opponents.

FC Porto finished second in the top tier of Portugal last season. Porto are one of the big three in Portuguese football, along with Benfica and Sporting Lisbon.

They are the second most decorated team in Portugal with 84 major trophies. They have been champions of Portugal 30 times, the last time in 2022. They hold the record for the most consecutive Portuguese titles, with five between 1994 and 1999.

Porto won the Champions League in 2004, under the management of Jose Mourinho. They are ranked 9th by UEFA in the all time club ranking across Europe.

By finishing second in the league last season, they automatically qualified for the Champions League group stage for this coming season.

Sérgio Conceição is their current manager and has been since 2017, winning three league titles. He also played for Porto and the Portugal national team in his playing career. Only one other manager has won trophies as a manager in Portugal than him.

It will be another good test for Cardiff City on Saturday night, but a tough one - their toughest yet.

Porto are a better team than anyone the Bluebirds will face in the Championship.

They finished 2nd in the Portuguese top tier last season, just two points off title winners Benfica.

They also reached the quarter finals of the Champions League, losing to eventual finalists Inter Milan. They will again enter the Champions League at the group stage this season.

Porto played a pre-season friendly against Portimonense on Tuesday and won 2-0.

International viewers can get vpn express and set the location to London. This should allow them to watch the game

Yakou Meite misses out with a tight calf. Ryan Allsop will play the full 90 - so Jak Alnwick not in the squad (doing commentary for Cardiff City TV).

Ugbo clatters into Porto defender Zaidu, who goes down holding his neck and jaw. He receives medical attention and is back on the pitch.

Robinson with an early shot which was saved

Toni Martinez is the target again for another cross but Goutas handles him brilliantly.

City break up the other end through Ojo, who whips in a cross but it's through everyone and out for a goal kick.

Porto take the lead.

Good initial block by Goutas but can't get to the rebound.

city making wrong options in the last 3rd, 4 times now passes would have got someone in on goal

porto get one chance in same way and pass and they score

Wrong decisions in front of goal , same old.
We need to start getting the one twos instead of being greedy

We've been the better team so far despite trailing.

Created some opportunities and the players all seem to know their roles.

It's been an impressive opening 23 minutes.

Grant and O'Dowda combine well again on the left and the latter stands a cross up towards the penalty spot. Ugbo connects but cannot get enough on it and it's wide.
