Early days but no better than Etete in my opinion. Played against top notch defenders, hopefully more useful against Championship teams.

Harsh criticism. He was playing against Champions league defenders tonight. Give the lad time. i don't think he will be prolific but definitely adds something. We need different options in a long season.

I think he'll give him some more time but I agree, struggled these last two games.
Hold up play very good but not getting in scoring positions.
He has the option of Grant, Robinson and Meite who can all play as a striker as well. Ugbo's place in the team is not safe.
He may even decide he needs another striker through the door once he gets a CM, CB and RB.
But it's early days with Ugbo and I'm sure he'll get the time to get things right.

Give the lad a chance he’s only been here a short time ,needs time to gel as do all the new players

I didn't say he was rubbish, I said he looks no better than Etete. Fingers crossed

Let him settle ffs, have a day off!

For me he is quality at splitting defenders to allow the wingers to get more space I think if he don't bag alot of goals he will enable others to do so. His pace alone will scare championship defenders

As yet I have not seen the pace you mention But the guy only played in two games and is settling in and getting his fitness levels up

I have never been on the Etete bus, not because i don't think he'll make it, its just a few seasons away.
He can only be a target man and he is in the embryonic stage of his development for that punishing role.
He needs to drop down to L2 or the conference and learn his trade against big rugged error prone center halves and get goals; championship ones are just too cute for him at this stage of his career.

Let's hope my post doesn't age well!

I thought he was brought in as a squad striker replacing Harris and watters.
Hopefully develop him then. Build on his talent with training and consistency...
Not sure if straight in as the main man suits him, the manager or the fans right now...

I'm worried too, but hopefully it is too early and as you see against lower calibre defenders he will look better.
The team don't really no each other yet and there has been a lot f changes in each half, hopefully things will fall into place over the next 13 days.

Bump...........
Doesn't look like a hungry for a goal centre forward.
Sat Jul 29, 2023 7:10 pm
He's a natural finisher. But the problem is I don't think we are going to play to compliment his style.
I could be wrong though. Grant, robbo and Ramsey behind him.... Anything could happen.

Based on todays performance Etete offered far more im his cameo appearance ghan Ugbo. I'm not a huge fan of Etete, but he seems to ha r worked on his game and should be ahead of Ugbo in the pecking order.....
Etete seemed to be at least in the right place at the right time, and was more intelligent in his runs and movement....

I agree Barclay. I do think though that we were more inclined to get the ball into the box a lot quicker when Etete was there. Whether that was due to his superior aerial strength of a tactical change I don’t know.
My front 3 for Sunday would be -
O’Dowda Grant. Robinson
I think.

Agree with you both.
I'd probably go grant, Robinson, ojo.
Think ojos had a decent preseason and worked hard today tracking back

Brilliant tackle by him on edge of our box after tracking back. Yes SO played well today too. Good to have options.

Grant, Robinson,Ojo with Ramsey running past? Who in the centre though?
Ugbo described as this powerhouse CF. I didn't get that impression from PreSeason. More presence with Etete in the box.

Grant and Robinson have both played as main strikers so can rotate

Still stand by what I said. I believe he's a finisher. But that's it. Offers nothing else. And due to that he doesn't get the ball much

Owls boss Danny Röhl has spoken about his desire to strengthen his attacking options, with the club working on clearing space in their squad with two players already having left the club. Goalkeeper James Beadle has arrived on loan.
The Star understands that Wednesday are hopeful of getting their hands on a new forward in former Chelsea man Ike Ugbo, who is currently on loan with Cardiff City but has not played in any of their last four matches after sustaining a hamstring injury. He is back fit and was named on the bench in their win at QPR on Saturday and The Star understands progress has been made on a possible loan deal, with the Owls hopeful of coming to an arrangement that would see him swap South Wales for South Yorkshire.

I feel a bit for him as I think if we created more clear cut chances he would finish them.
It’s always hard for loan players coming in and I can’t fault his work rate. I wish him well at Wednesday.

He should've played on Saturday. Would've scored for sure.

Yeah, I’m wondering whether the move was already in progress so they didn’t want to risk him

Good luck to the lad.
