Cardiff City: Allsop; Ng, Goutas, Simpson, O'Dowda; Wintle, Adams, Ramsey; Ojo, Grant, Ugbo.

Subs: Alnwick, Romeo, Benjamin, Collins, Rinomhota, Evans, Tanner, Robinson, Etete #CCFC #Bluebirds

Nearly 900 Cardiff fans are travelling :bluebird:

Bulut has told the squad to take the game v League 1 Wycombe seriously as he will be choosing his team v Leeds from this game, so will be letting as many players as possible during the 90 minutes this Saturday.

Leeds away is the opening game of the season, the following Saturday.

Not sure yet if this game will be streamed on Cardiff City TV.

This is our final pre-season game. It is a testimonial for Joe Jacobson, who has been with Wycombe for ten years. He started his career with the Bluebirds and made one league appearance. During his career he has also played for Accrington Stanley, Bristol Rovers, Oldham Athletic and Shrewsbury Town.

Tickets are available for Cardiff City fans.

After this game, we will start preparing for our opening Championship fixture of Leeds United away the following Sunday.

Below are a few details on our opponents.

Wycombe finished 9th in League One last season, having been relegated from the Championship two seasons before.

The previous season they reached the play-off final, but lost to Sunderland.

They are currently managed by club legend Matt Bloomfield. He was appointed in February.

As a player, he made nearly 500 league appearances for the club.

His previous management role was with Colchester United.

Definitely Annis, the players need to build some confidence and the fans need some reassurance  :ayatollah:

Yes me too mate.
Heard the ground is away from town so we’re parking up in town and hopefully walking to Adams Park. Anyone know how far the ground is from the town centre?

“It’s a real privilege for me to be given the opportunity to celebrate my time at Wycombe Wanderers with a testimonial and I’m over the moon that Cardiff City have agreed to play a special part in it.

“I’m a Cardiff boy, born and bred, and it was a source of huge pride for me and my family to play for the club right at the start of my career. I’ve loved every minute of my time at Wycombe so far and to bring my two favourite clubs together for this game will be an incredible occasion that I’ll always cherish.

“I’d like to thank the board and everyone at Wycombe Wanderers for granting me this testimonial game, and Cardiff City for agreeing to provide the opposition.”

Let's treat this almost like a league match. In reality they only finished about 12 places below us last season. Let's see where we're at.

You can watch the match on Cardiff City Television. £4 for a match pass, hopefully a % goes toward the testimonial fund, especially if the player is from Cardiff

I’d imagine he’d pick 45-60 mins of his team then pick a separate team for last half hour or so. Anyone playing poorly for first 45-60 mins could be replaced for Leeds game by any star performer in next 40 I suppose.

O'Dowda at left back or Collins?
It will be interesting to see this team, will it be first choice players starting and reserves coming on, or will he mix it up from the start?

We should be beating Wycombe end of there a league below us and should win comfortably there be none of this "it was only a fitness game" nonsense being soaked up by me off others if we don't. Let's start getting real here we won some games not even by a good few goals vs some part time sheep farmers and factory workers who play in the shitty welsh league who run on one of our lowest paid players wages per week bar that we hardly scored a few in any games so I expect a win tbh. :bluescarf:

My 18000 post of being a realist :D

This weekend’s clash will honour Jacobson in his testimonial match, after coming through the ranks as a Bluebird.

The City Academy graduate has since had a stellar career in the EFL, representing the likes of Bristol Rovers, Shrewsbury Town and his current club, Wycombe Wanderers.

Joining the latter in 2014, the defender has gone on to make over 300 league appearances for the club, gaining promotion from League Two in 2018 and from League One in 2020.

Currently in preparation for his tenth season as a Chairboy, the Cardiff-born left-back’s achievements will be recognised this weekend.

Wycombe competed in League One last season, finishing ninth in the table at the end of the campaign.

There is a big gap between The Championship and League 1.

In a competitive third-tier, the Chairboys finished nine points behind the occupants of the final play-off position, Peterborough United.

In the FA Cup, Wycombe were knocked out by Walsall in the first round, while the side reached the second round of the EFL Cup. After defeating Northampton Town in the first round, Wycombe bowed out of the competition at the hands of Championship outfit Bristol City.

I never take notice or concerned with results from friendly or testimonial games but this is a little different.

With only a week to go before the season starts and this being our last friendly, we should be treating it seriously and go out for the win.

Wintle with a sensational diagonal ball over the top to Ojo, who looks to control and take it into his path, but is tackled.

Sat Jul 29, 2023 2:12 pm

Ramsey with a cross - searching for Ojo - but it just has too much on it.

Re: Match Thread " Wycombe Wanderers v Cardiff City "

Sat Jul 29, 2023 2:19 pm

Goutas with a big, commanding header, beating Hanlan in the air. Moments earlier he had slid in to stop Hanlan's shot. Good battle between those two.

Cardiff almost carved open on the counter, there, but Simpson is across quickly to put the ball out for a corner. Good period for the Chairboys here.

Breckin's corner is headed clear by Simpson.

Re: Match Thread " Wycombe Wanderers v Cardiff City "

Cardiff break through Grant and Ramsey, who releases Ojo. Ojo tries to get it back to him but the momentum is lost and Wycombe have numbers back.

Nice break from Cardiff finds Grant out on the left. He tries a low cross - it's deflected out for a corner.

Brilliant block by Ojo to keep it 0-0
