Lewis O'Brien on £15k per week at Nottingham Forest who like

Tue Aug 01, 2023 8:24 pm

Lewis O'Brien on £15k per week at Nottingham Forest who likely want to off-load him.

Even if Cardiff cover all his wages - which they need to do if he comes on loan under the transfer embargo restriction - it is within the club budget.

However, the 24-year-old, who failed to make Steve Cooper's 25-man Forest PFL squad last season, arrival at Cardiff would signal the exit of at least one of the established midfielders in the current Bluebirds roster.

Josh Bowler's arrival from Forest on a season-long loan will trigger a jettison for either Keiran Evans or Ollie Tanner on loan.

And many on here say Tanner and Evans are good enough and deserve a chance?
They are not kids anymore.

If we get O'Brien we are serious top 6 contenders in my opinion.

O'Brien would be a top signing if we could get it done.

If that happened, would be willing to see Sawyers go. Along with Tanner and Evans going out on loan.

But like I said on another topic, that relies on clubs wanting to sign those players - they will on the loans but more difficult to see someone wanting to sign Sawyers permanently, especially in the Championship.

It's a long season. Obrien would offer class where as others have different attributes.
We need numbers. Last thing we want is 2 or 3 injuries and hoping youth can take the step up if they aren't ready.

There will be no shortage of offers for this guy!!!

The problem here (and I admit we all get over eager at times) is that it builds up hope that it will happen but as we know all too well, our club has a habit of springing surprises for us supporters in who they actually sign...

Lots of names mentioned over the summer but how many of those 'named' have actually signed?

Not many...!

The only 'name' I would hang onto as a 'possibility' is Keiffer and that is currently no more than 'potential' rather than 'on the cards' :ayatollah:

We can't just wait just in case it doesn't come off, so maybe we will sign someone sooner, we can't start like last season without a main goal scoring Striker.

I would like to Evans in our squad to be honest I feel our youngsters should have a chance in a Cardiff shirt

This season I would like to see Rubin Collwill and Evans have another go this season in a good squad you may see them
grow into good players I am not sure about Tanner maybe a season in league 1 may help him.

Our young players need to play in a good team lets be honest the last few season its been pretty terrible and we cannot rely on young players to bail out a poor team as we been.

We cannot loan two players from the same team so by loaning Bowler that puts O’Brian out of our reach.

I posted this yesterday but there seems to confusion as to whether it just pertains to the premier league.
I have looked everywhere and all i could find was conflicting information :banghead:

Perhaps someone can find it in the EFL rules!

I cannot see it mentioned in the regulations. The only limit I can find concerns having 5 loans overall.

Prem clubs can only have two loans at any one time. Perhaps that is where the confusion is?

Well if that affects Championship clubs, it says no more than THREE loans between clubs.

So it will be fine.

Taken from F.A 2023-2024 Handbook
Section 29 Standardised Rules 6.6.2

A club can have up to a maximum of 12 short term loans during a playing season. The minimum period of a Short Term Loan must be 28days with a maximum period to the end of a playing season.

The Competition shall not approve more than 2 short term loan transfers to or from any one club from another club at any one time. ( subject to the overall limit of 4 players joining a club from another club in any playing season)

still confusing

Sorted then.

Two are allowed over 23

Maximum of 12 loan players in one season

No more than 5 loan players in a match squad, at any one time

No more than 4 players from ONE club in a season BUT
a. You can only have 2 at a time
b. No more than 2 can be over 23 during the season

So 2 players for 6 months say, and then another 2 for 6 months is allowed, (as long as only 2 of the 4 are over 23), from the same club.

Minimum loan period is 28 days, and the maximum period is until the end of the current season.

Cannot see anything about two at a time though.

Also if a loan is made permanent in the next transfer window, the loan then does not count towards the limits.

Cheers.

No wonder it is so confusing when there are differences between FIFA, UEFA, EFL & FA Regulations.

It is confusing, and I only copied that from a previous post above.
So not sure if it is correct, and as you say, so many governing bodies, I doubt many people know the appropriate rules.
This one says FA, but aren't we covered by Football League rules?

I can see how lawyers make money, squabbling over the rules and what applies to each situation.

Surely with him now being 6 foot 5 then Colwill could play the striker role if we don't get Moore. He has a decent shot, can use his height to win aerial battles and can even take set pieces. To be honest where is he going to play otherwise - Rambo is nailed on for the ten role and we now also have plenty of wingers, so even allowing for Ramsey not playing every game his game time is going to be limited again unless we find a position for him...
