Mason Greenwood has had his contract terminated by Manchester United.

Greenwood, 21, was arrested in January 2022. He was charged with attempted rape and assault but these charges were dropped in February this year.

Manchester United has concluded its internal investigation into the allegations made against Mason Greenwood.

Our process commenced in February 2023, following all charges against Mason being dropped. Throughout, we have taken into account the wishes, rights and perspective of the alleged victim along with the club’s standards and values, and sought to collate as much information and context as possible. This has required us to proceed with sensitivity and care to obtain evidence not in the public domain, including from those with direct knowledge of the case.

Based on the evidence available to us, we have concluded that the material posted online did not provide a full picture and that Mason did not commit the offences in respect of which he was originally charged. That said, as Mason publicly acknowledges today, he has made mistakes which he is taking responsibility for.

All those involved, including Mason, recognise the difficulties with him recommencing his career at Manchester United. It has therefore been mutually agreed that it would be most appropriate for him to do so away from Old Trafford, and we will now work with Mason to achieve that outcome.

The correct decision and really the only one Man Utd could make. I for one would hate it if our club gave him a contract. However this is football and someone of his talent will get another club no doubt of it .

Don’t quite see how the club can say that he didn’t do what he’s being accused of and then quite literally in the next sentence say that he’s taking responsibility for it.

100% anyone who had heared and seen what was out online who defends him has a screw loose imo. Money talks in this case I suspect.

The CEO said the evidence showed it wasn’t greenwood yet cps only dropped it because she kept breaking his bail conditions. He’s gotten off lightly with domestic abuse and the club will stand with him even with him moving on….

Really encouraging to read the responses on here about Greenwood.

The recordings were evidence for me that while the charges were dropped, there was enough there to indicate that he has(had?) and appalling attitude to towards women and toxic entitlement to aggressively have sex with his gf (which is rape as far as I am concerned).

If the recordings were him... which i don't think he has denied.

However, I DO believe in second chances but usually second chances come when people are remorseful, get help and deal with things with humility and regret. Greenwood has shown none of those things and falsely claimed he was found innocent - charges being dropped and being found innocent are two different things.

If he had come out and said "my attitude towards women and sex has been awful and I have been getting help for this and I want to put things rights, sorry for what i did and i will spend my life making amends for my behaviour"... then I think there would be a chance for him somewhere. But it seems like he may go to Saudi.

It's strange tho that players like Gazza beat the crap out of his wife yet many love him, Patrick Kluivert killed someone a fan of his own team speeding and went on to have a amazing career loved by many. Many more examples in sport Mike Tyson was OK for him to have another chance. This don't make it ok and I don't condone what he did but think Mason at 21 deserves another chance. Learning from this mistake could be the making of him and he's going to have to learn how to deal with a lot of stick off fans. I think he will end up in Italy myself he's a very good player.

I think there’s a bit of a scandal brewing at that club at the moment, reports earlier this week that another of their players Antony’s ex partner is preparing a police complaint about domestic violence. damming in that report being that when he hit and burst her fake boob he took her to the club doctors instead of the hospital so that it wouldn’t get out
