" A lot of knee jerk reactions tonight "

Sat Sep 02, 2023 4:17 pm

Seen what a few have posted on here and social media after the game, as well as a few posts on the match thread.

It seems a lot are making knee jerk reactions to a disappointing result.

We once again played very well apart from for a 20 minute period in the second half.

Two of their goals were very fortunate if you look at them, rebounds falling to their player for a tap in. Admittedly though Collins switched off for one of those goals as well and he paid for it. Their first goal was brilliant.

We caused a lot of problems for a team that many are backing for the top six.

We scored two very well worked goals and their goalkeeper made a few outstanding saves to keep them in it.

Obviously the substitutions didn't help us today, but I actually agreed with him when he made them.

I did think Karlan Grant was brilliant today and my MOTM.

I always say that the first six games, performances are very important. If you're losing games you don't mind as much this early on if you're getting good performances - we are.

Today hasn't changed my mind at all, I'm still very positive for the season and think we will do well with this manager.

Onwards and upwards :bluebird:

Agree, also hope the owner doesn't have another crazy idea !!!

Lots of new players so will need time to gel but definitely not another relegation fight.

Totally disagree, don't think it's knee jerk just looking at the bigger picture, we CANNOT and DO NOT like like keeping a clean sheet anytime soon, we've had 1 win against a shite team apart from that we again concede hideous goals.

No excuses still not good enough to shut out teams doing the buisness at one end of the pitch but has to be both but ipswich are a very good team but to let 3 in a row is unforgivsble

I dont think its knee jerk to criticize that second half capitulation. It was poor. I think we are playing better football but we sit off teams too much. Not having a big number 9 (Moore) is going to really cost us too. Still early days, our fixtures so far have included some very difficult away trips. Definitely need patience. But what Bulut cant afford to do now is lose the derby yet again. Lose this and the bubble will burst. I'd give our season start 6 out of 10 so far. Need to do better.

Well said and totally agree, very unlucky with the goals and as angry as I am for us losing a 2 goal lead there were positives.
Put it together like we did for 2 3rds of the game and we will be ok.
Some people think because Ipswich were just promoted it was going to be an easy victory.

We have a team of cast offs and we play like that
That’s why these players are free or loans they are too inconsistent

Sat Sep 02, 2023 4:32 pm

Wow - I don't think anyone thought we'd rock on up and beat the Tractor Boys after a good start by them.

However, there is no knee jerk reaction. People are rightly pissed off that we've squandered a 2 goal lead and can see that the managers defensively minded tinkering contributed to the capitulation. Not to mention dropping Alnwick!

Really gutted to play so well and conceed two bs goals really pissed me off, will take all day to get over it lol!

Difference today was one team didnt take some of their clear chances and another got luck with two

Hope Bulut learns about his system tweak

I don’t usually disagree Ned,

But I don’t agree.

We once again let a two goal lead totally escape us and Bulut jerks blaming nerves, and the mentality of our players.

Well you Bulut are totally in command and you chose them.

Of course it’s knee jerk.. just like how everyone is excited at going 2 up.
Well said Worcester..

Well said mate. I've thought in every game so far that we sit off teams and let them come at us.

Bulut needs to shoulder most of the blame today for dropping Alnwick and changing the shape when we were 2 nil up.

Have to agree with the OP.

We looked very good going forward, there’s obviously an issue defensively.
Could it be Goutas and McGuiness? Very good individually, but maybe can’t play as a pair? Seen it on numerous occasions where we just get carved open in the centre at the back.

Might be worth dropping one of them to the bench next game, and start Panzo.

We need to take stock where we are in January, as going forward it’s very much starting to click.

Bulut will learn from these mistakes. It’s a new league for him, and adapting.
As long as he isn’t sacked and we stick with him, I think we will comfortably finish mid-table. Possibly higher depending on January signings when the embargo is lifted!

We have blown 2 goal leads 3 times already this season and lost one in the 90th minute. You can forgive it a few times a season but not every week.

Bulut was to blame for today end of. Massive game for him against the Jack's now lose that and fans will turn.

Re: " A lot of knee jerk reactions tonight "

Sat Sep 02, 2023 4:58 pm

I'm sorry but I don't agree.

There's no point playing really well for 60 or so minutes when a game lasts more than 90 and especially if you're going to be so poor in the remainder of the game that you can manage to undo all the hard work when you've been playing well by throwing away a two goal lead.

Two goals today may be "unlucky", so was the Leeds equaliser and so was the Leicester winner - or were they a result of an inability to clear the ball properly by our defence?

Bulut seems to lack confidence in letting the players who start the game finish it - this may be because the players are unfit but if the team that starts the game are doing well why change the team and the tactics and invite problems?

Is it a knee jerk reaction when people start saying after being a poor Sheffield Wednesday team in the last seconds and after signing any number of loans and free transfers (by definition players not wanted by their previous or current clubs) that we've had a great transfer window and we should be thinking about aiming for the play-offs?

To me that's far more of a knee jerk reaction than commenting on what we are seeing with our own eyes in front of us every weekend.

It's a results business. Not play well for 60 mins and hope we win.

I disagree,

This isn't the first match of the season and it is happening way too often... We need to play two halves and bulut needs to decide who is the core team is before making changes like he did.

Alnwick should have started, tanner shouldn't have been taken off and so for ralls too. I think it's clear that an option other than moore for a striker is needed as plenty of chances gone begging. Meite needs to shape up on Misses like he did.

People saying a CB is needed but I feel an additional midfielder is needed next window as ramsey/ralls can't do everything all the time.

This was totally Buluts fault end of tactically he is complete shite and by the way I told you Moore was not coming rant over.

Re: " A lot of knee jerk reactions tonight "

I disagree. I would not be confident being 3 nil up with ten minutes to go against the Jacks at present. We need to control games when up, stop them getting into our penalty area.

I don’t think it a knee jerk reaction, as our expectations are not that high.
It just annoying watching your team playing some good football for a change, and the manager decides to mix things up and throw the game away. I can’t really be mad at the team, they were totally confused on what to do.

Re: " A lot of knee jerk reactions tonight "

Sat Sep 02, 2023 5:35 pm

Absolutely agree this was no knee jerk reaction. We stopped playing at 2-0. Yeas there are clear improvements from last season. In my opinion Bulut has to take responsibility. Taking Tanner off at half time who in my opinion was the best player on the pitch is beyond baffling and then changing the shape and . Rambo should’ve come off instead of Ralls. Lessons from previous games haven’t been learnt as everyone knows the game isn’t over in till the final whistle goes. Finally to publicly slate Tanner is wrong in my opinion especially when he didn’t do anything wrong unless I missed something but i think we actually missed him in second half

Patience is needed .
This team is going to be very hard to beat soon , I’ve a lot of faith in bulut , he’s just learning his mistakes ,watch this space

I agree.

People just getting carried away today. We've had three of the toughest away games of the season and performed well.

Performances at this stage are almost as important as results this early on.

At this point in the season, I'd rather us play well and lose like today than not play well but win luckily.

On the basis of that, we'll have a good season.

To be honest I really enjoyed the first half, and the build up to the Ramsey goal was amazing. This is why it makes it so annoying to lose a game through the manager tinkering around when there’s no need to.

Exactly , so nice to see really good football first half , we will cut out the mistakes and take our chances and we will be hard to beat , looking forward to this season, just can’t expect miracles straight away , they’ve only just started playing and new manager
