CARDIFF CITY v SWANSEA CITY
Saturday 16th September, 7.45pm
Sky Bet Championship
Cardiff City Stadium

Cardiff City: Alnwick; Ng, McGuinness, Goutas, Collins; Wintle, Siopis; Meite, Ramsey (C), Grant; Ugbo.

Subs: Runarsson, Ralls, Etete, Adams, Panzo, R. Colwill, Tanner, Rinomhota, Robinson.

Swansea City: Rushworth; Wood, Darling, Pedersen; Key, Allen, Grimes (C), Patino, Tymon; Yates, Lowe.

Subs: Fisher, Cabango, Humphreys, Ashby, Fulton, Cooper, Paterson, Ginnelly, Cullen.

Updated:

Cardiff City could well welcome Callum Robinson back into the fray after a recent back injury. Likewise, Wales captain Aaron Ramsey is likely to be fit, despite coming off midway through the recent clash with Latvia.

Callum O'Dowda and Josh Bowler, however, are set to miss out.

Erol Bulut:

‘Today Callum Robinson trained and he was feeling well with his back. I hope tomorrow he will be fine too and then for the game, we will see. O’Dowda will be out for a longer time. I think another two weeks. Josh Bowler, it looks like he will not be with us.’

Injuries?

We have some small problems. Tomorrow we will have better results for one or two players. But generally most of the players will be on the field and in the squad.

Even with an injury - when it’s a derby you get fit!

Bulut

A bit of scare last night as Ramsey wobbled of for Wales, but he himself said he will be ok for Cardiff v Swansea :bluebird:

The Opposition's Manager

Michael Duff was appointed Swansea manager in the summer, after Russell Martin left to take the job at Southampton.

He was at Barnsley last season, having got that job last summer, and led them to the League One play-off final which they lost 1-0 to Sheffield Wednesday in extra time.

Before that, he had a four-year spell in charge of Cheltenham Town. He did a good job there, getting them promoted to League One.

Opposition Dangerous Players

Jerry Yates will lead the line for the opposition. He has two league goals this season and scored 14 in the Championship last season in a struggling Blackpool team.

Nathan Wood will be a key part of their defence, they did well to keep hold of him over the summer as he was attracting major interest from other clubs.

They also signed defender Bashir Humphreys on deadline day, in a loan move from Chelsea. He was on loan at Paderborn in Germany last season. Looks like a good signing.

Head To Head

None of us need to be reminded that we have an awful recent record against Swansea.

We have lost four out of the last five, including all of the last four.

Our last win against them came at their ground in March 2021 in the Championship - this was played in front of no fans because of Covid.

You have to go back nearly ten years, to November 2013, for our last home win against them and also our last win against them in front of supporters. That was a 1-0 win in a Premier League fixture at CCS.

That was one of our two wins in the last ten meetings, with them winning seven in that time and one draw.

Team News - Predicted Line-Ups

Cardiff City: Runarsson, Ng, McGuinness, Goutas, Collins, Siopis, Ralls, Ramsey, Tanner, Grant, Meite

Swansea City: Rushworth, Ashby, Cabango, Naughton, Wood, Key, Patino, Grimes, Cooper, Cullen, Yates

Last Game

Both teams lost their last game before the international break.

We lost 3-2 away at Ipswich Town, while Swansea lost 2-1 at home to Bristol City.

We go into the match in 19th place, two points above Swansea - who are in 22nd place at this early stage of the season.

Swansea are looking for their first league win of the season, although they did beat League One club Northampton in the first round of the Carabao Cup before going out to Premier League side Bournemouth in the next round.

Match Odds

Cardiff City - 13/8
Swansea City - 17/10

I'll be at the game as always, will be in Cardiff from Friday night until Monday for it.

Looking forward to it but rarely enjoy these matches compared to other fixtures, because it's always a strange game.

Just hope that we can get the win this time after a terrible run in this fixture :bluebird:

If we don’t get a result here then the pressure will ramp up even more on Bulut. Football management is a cut throat business these days, and even though we are under an embargo, he has been heavily backed in the transfer window. He would have had 2 weeks to work with the players to get them to gel. We cannot be waiting 10 games for it to click.

It’s almost a free stab at it for the Swans. We have to win more home games this season! The CCS has become an easy place for opposition teams to play their football.

It will be more than pressure, Bulut will be in deep trouble and it will be very hard for him to recover. That sounds ridiculous after 6 games and it probably is but the misery of this fixture means there is very little patience amongst fans. Personally, I think we will really struggle again and wont win it. We just dont dominate teams. 2 v 2 is my prediction though. Draw and move on.

Some great 'supporters' on here ahead of the local derby...NOT!

The 'Jack Nursery' are chucking their rattles and soothers because their manager is feeling the pressure with his depleted squad and here you all are providing ammunition for his 'rallying call'...

The negativity BEFORE A BALL IS EVEN KICKED astounds me on times and must surely give an unexpected boost to the neanderthals down west...?

A win for the Bluebirds this time out, as Erol Bulut starts to sort out the anomolies that have this far denied us a few more points than we currently have...

Keep the faith, loyal Bluebirds...! :ayatollah: :bluescarf: :bluebird:

Early derby team news:

The derby is now fast approaching.

Ramsey looks likely to be OK for the fixture but one man who could miss out is Callum O'Dowda.

“Callum O’Dowda has a problem with his tendon I initially thought it would be a few days, but it looks like two to three weeks," Cardiff boss Erol Bulut revealed before the international break, adding there was better news on Nottingham Forest loanee Josh Bowler, who's been out with a calf injury.

“Josh Bowler, I saw him on the field today, so after the international break, he will be with us.”

Callum Robinson has been out for a few weeks now and is still working his way back to full fitness. It remains to be seen whether he'll be in contention. Bulut will update fans on that and other matters at his Thursday press briefing.

I don't see the logic at all of criticising bulut at the moment in fact it's laughable for several reasons firstly we've only played six games yes 6 games. He hasn't been to pay any money for anyone due to the clowns running the place. (Though to be fair to Dalman he seems to be sorting that out) and secondly we are scoring goals and putting ourselves in winning positions against teams that will probably finish in or near the play offs e.g. Leeds and Ipswich.
If he can iron out these game manage ment issues then we would be say 4/5 points better off already.
As for the Swansea game I believe unlike our other useless recent managers we will be properly prepared and losing to Swansea does not define our season unlike it does for them.
Even when we say let's see where we are in 12 games we still will hardly have a player in our side that cost a fee. Jock Stein, Paisley, Clo ugh an Ferguson would struggle with that!!
Remember Mick McCarthy won 7 on the trot and look what happened to him!
So to all the doomongers get realistic!

Swansea Boss , Michael Duff has the luxury of a near full squad to choose from, with long-term absentees Liam Walsh and Nathanel Ogbeta the only likely doubts at this stage.

“Everyone came through the other night, we had a couple of knocks and everyone should be fine for the weekend,” said the Swans boss ahead of last weekend's defeat to Bristol City before the international break.

“Walshy is on the grass but has not had any contact work and needs a pre-season really so he is a little while away."

But while Duff may not have any fresh injury worries, there are still likely to be some big calls to be made ahead of Saturday's tussle.

The club's four deadline day signings, Bashir Humphreys, Kristian Pedersen, Josh Tymon, and Jamal Lowe, weren't signed in time to play any part in the defeat to the Robins last time out, but are all in contention for the trip to the capital.

Lowe knows all about this fixture of course, netting a sensational brace against the Bluebirds during his first stint with the Swans, but throwing any of the other three into a debut outing under the heat of derby day could potentially be a gamble.

That said, something will have to change for Swansea, who simply haven't got going in the Championship this season.

"They're all fit," Duff said when quizzed on the quartet's possible involvement. "How fit they are we'll have to see. We'll have an idea on that in the next week. Josh has played last Saturday and played 90 minutes on Tuesday. Bashir played 90 minutes on Tuesday. Jamal and Kristian have played a lot in pre-season. Jamal not so much, but we'll have to see where we're at."

Nerves are starting to set in for Saturday now. I'm sure Bulut will get them pumping for it but will the players keep their heads and will Bulut and his staff get the game management sorted.

Taking my daughter to this. She's not witnessed this grudge match before. Hopefully we'll get the first goal which will set the stadium rocking...come on the BLUEBIRDS, let's get those bragging rights back in the capital!!!

It's not brilliant for anyone to sing really - children or adults. But I see your point. I'm one of those strange supporters who can't hate their closest rivals. I don't want them to win, of course, but I just can't hate them.

Cardiff vs Swansea: Team news -

Aaron Ramsey has become a slight injury concern ahead of the highly-anticipated derby.

Cardiff’s star man was withdrawn as a precaution at halftime of Wales’ 2-0 win over Latvia earlier this week.

The Bluebirds will definitely be without Callum O’Dowda while Callum Robinson and Josh Bowler will be hopeful of recovering in time.

As for Swansea, they have no new injury concerns in their squad.

Long-term absentees Liam Walsh and Nathanael Ogbeta are the only players expected to miss out on the derby.

Erol Bulut expects Aaron Ramsey to play in Cardiff City's clash with arch rivals Swansea this Saturday after the playmaker gave fans a scare while on international duty with Wales.

"He was on the field today, tomorrow I think he will be with us. Hopefully on the pitch Saturday, too."

In another boost for Cardiff fans, Callum Robinson looks like he could be back in the fold as well. The winger's season has not gone according to plan so far after he suffered a back injury while on the club's pre-season trip to Portugal.

I want us to win, but I quite frankly don't see it at all happening. If bulut finds confidence in his formation and we do well, for the love of good, don't change it.
