INJURY UPDATE:

Rambo, O’Dowda, Bowler, Jamilu Collins and Meite all injured

Yakou Meite, is out after tweaking his hamstring

Update on Ramsey:

It’s looking like Ramsey will at least miss the whole of October, maybe even November.
Erol Bulut on Ramsey’s injury:

‘I didn't talk with the medical department, so I’m waiting also for the news. It was a rupture on his tendon, where he had an injury many years before and he got surgery. We have to see how they get it healed. Maybe an operation or not. We are waiting.’

Riverside Stadium

Middlesbrough have played at the Riverside Stadium since 1995.

The stadium has a capacity of nearly 35,000.

The record attendance for a Boro game was 34,836 for a Premier League fixture against Norwich City in 2004.

The stadium has also hosted games for the England national team, England women's team and football at the 2012 Olympic Games.

The Opposition's Manager

Michael Carrick was appointed Middlesbrough manager in October. It was his first full time management role, although he did previously have a three game spell as caretaker manager at Manchester United.

He did a remarkable job at Boro last season. They were 21st when he was appointed but they ended up finishing 4th and making the play-offs, losing in the semi finals to Coventry.

Opposition Dangerous Players

Matt Crooks had seven goals and six assists in the league last season.

Josh Coburn scored the winner at the weekend and scored ten goals in League One for Bristol Rovers last season while on loan.

Head To Head

We have won only one of our last five meetings with Middlesbrough, that win was last season when we beat them at the Riverside in the league in September 2022.

Middlesbrough have won three of those meetings, the last being a win at CCS in the league in February.

Team News - Predicted Line-Ups

Middlesbrough: Dieng, Van Den Berg, Fry, McNair, O'Brien, Howson, Hackney, Crooks, Jones, McGree, Coburn

Cardiff City: Alnwick, Ng, McGuinness, Goutas, Collins, Siopis, Ralls, Wintle, Tanner, Grant, Etete

Last Game

Middlesbrough won at Watford in the league on Saturday.

On the same day, we won at home to Rotherham.

Match Odds

Middlesbrough - 8/11
Cardiff City - 7/2
Draw - 11/4

Ramsey injury

Rupturing a tendon is not like straining a hamstring. It’s a big injury

This will be a very tough game.

I think Middlesbrough are a much better team than their standing in the table suggests.

They're down in 21st after a difficult start to the season. But they've won their last two, at home against Southampton and away at Watford.

They have a manager who did a brilliant job with them last season and many players who are good Championship players.

Yes they lost Akpom and the other Aaron Ramsey in the summer, but still a very strong squad.

I would take four points from this and Watford before the international break.

A draw would be a good result at Boro.

Middlesbrough win comes at a cost with Michael Carrick 'fearing the worst' over Lewis O'Brien

Lewis O'Brien had to go off in the first half of Middlesbrough's 3-2 win over Watford

Michael Carrick admits it doesn't look good for Lewis O'Brien, with the Middlesbrough head coach fearing the loanee could be out for a long time after suffering an ankle injury against Watford.

The Nottingham Forest loanee has had an excellent start to his spell at Boro, despite regularly filling the gap at left-back for the club so far. He started in assured fashion again at Vicarage Road as Carrick's side raced into a two-goal lead through a Riley McGree brace.

But O'Brien's afternoon would end prematurely after he took a whack on his ankle right by the dugouts, and immediately looked in discomfort as he received treatment for some time before it was judged he could not continue. Boro would go on to win the game 3-2 to record their second straight league win, but it potentially comes at a cost, with fears of a lengthy absence for O'Brien.

Robinson hasn't done anything near enough to deserve a start, he doesn't do the defensive work well enough. Tanner will probably come in for Meite.

Yes wouldn't be surprised with that, or Romeo as RB and NG at LB.

What form are Middlesbrough and Cardiff in ahead of Tuesday's game?

Having missed out on promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs at the end of last season, Middlesbrough endured a difficult start to the current Championship campaign.

Michael Carrick's side failed to win any of their first seven league games this season, which saw them slip into the relegation zone.

However, they would eventually get their first three points of the campaign with a 2-1 victory at home to Southampton, just over a week ago.

That was then followed up by victory over Bradford in the third round of the League Cup last Tuesday, before they made it back to back league wins with a 3-2 win against Watford on Saturday, taking an early 2-0 before being pegged back to 2-2, only for Josh Coburn's 63rd minute strike to secure all three points at Vicarage Road, putting them 21st in the current standings.

Cardiff meanwhile, started the campaign under a new manager in Erol Bulut, having spent much of last season battling relegation from the Championship.
The Bluebirds initially made something of a slow start in the league, taking just four points from their first five league matches.

However, they have now started to hit some serious form, with Saturday's 2-0 win at home to Rotherham United - thanks to second half goals from Kion Etete and Perry Ng - means they have now won each of their last four Championship games.

As a result, Cardiff go into this game sixth in the table, six points adrift of the automatic promotion spots in the early standings.

Tricky one to judge if you ask me now.

Middlesborough before their last 2 games must have been the worse team in the league. Now they have won these last 2 league games they look more of a daunting team you would think. Thing is these last 2 games have been against opponents who are really struggling to put something together. You get the impression it was what the Boro needed to sort themselves out. Now how will they react against a team that has sorted its act out and that is us?

Looking forward to tonight, should be a good game. Don't think Boro are as bad a team as table suggests although admittedly I haven't watched them play.
Another 3 points would be awesome and carry on our winning streak but if it's a point, at least unbeaten run remains. Bizarrely I really don't think we will lose

Middlesbrough's first away win of the season on Saturday against Watford saw on-loan midfielder Lewis O'Brien injured in the first half with an ankle problem, which boss Michael Carrick admitted he was "fearing the worst" over it. Alex Bangura also has a hamstring injury.

Erol Bulut:

“Four wins and we have the winning spirit, the fighting spirit back that I was expecting from the start. The last four games have gone really well, but we cannot stop, we have to continue to work hard against Middlesbrough."

Michael Carrick:

“It's been a good week for us, results-wise. Hopefully w have come through that spell in terms of things going against us and the boys are getting what they deserve now."

I’m leaning towards agreeing and I’d certainly take 4 points over next two games. Hoping for a pleasant surprise. If it’s 0-0 at half time I’d fancy us to Nick it maybe.
