" The pitch invader today "

Sat Oct 07, 2023 5:59 pm

The individual who entered the field of play today was detained by stewards before being issued a summons by Police.

He will appear in Court charged with violating the Football (Offences) Act & faces a three-year stadium ban.

Love football. Protect the game. Stay off the pitch.

There were moments today that a three-year stadium ban looked quite appealing ;)

Yep, I saw that !! He just wanted to impress the “ladies” he was with !!

Quite liked the way the second steward subtly slid in and kneed him in the head, although it obviously did knock any sense into him !!

Complete saddo probably didn’t even enter the ground until the rugby had finished.

Three years not long enough should be lifetime ban

Why would you like the fact that a steward “kneed him in the head “ Not sure kneeing a supporter in the head is appropriate.

He was no danger and could have been escorted off with the minimum of fuss.

I’ve been following since 1971 !!

Why on earth are you defending some complete idiot with no affinity to the club, or indeed football, for disrupting the game !!??

What if that had disrupted our defenders concentration and we’d let a goal in ?

Are you hoping this happens every week ? What if the club is fined or suffers other sanctions just for the actions of this saddo ?

It’s fine after we’re won a huge pressure game or even got promoted but this idiot just did it “for a laugh” so deserved whatever he got !!

We don’t need a pitch invader to distract our defenders. They’re quite capable of doing it themselves

I find it pathetic that you thought it was funny that a steward assaulted him that’s all by kneeing him in the head. Yes there was about 90 seconds of disruption, but so what ?

How much disruption is made during the game with players feigning injury or employing unnecessary tactics.

There won’t be any sanctions for a one of event and I’m sure the club will ban him.

You sound like one of those do gooder fans everyone tries to swerve. Get some perspective.

Heres a question.

Does he get a 3-year ban from just football grounds - or does the ban apply to rugby grounds as well?

Just thinking that if a rugby supporter did run onto the pitch it seems not much of a deterrent if he can still watch rugby

Totally agree. A few - not all- of these stewards are on a power trip. Probably made the day for the steward in question My son has done a couple of games as a steward and says the attitude of some toward the fans is a disgrace.

I find it strange that you support the idiot that run onto the pitch whilst a game is in play, which illegal.
Yet you are against the stewards doing their job what I saw that the steward slid across the floor and come into the brainless idiot head and the idiot did retaliate, I can’t understand why the police release him so quickly should of had a night in the cells.

Were the three who joined tge celebrations of ramsey's penalty against the jacks similarly punished is that different? Seems like double standards to me.

One of them was immediately restrained on the pitch by stewards, the other two ran straight back to the stands after being on the pitch for about 30 seconds.

They could perhaps count themselves a little lucky but I think a bit of common sense may have used due to the emotion of that moment.

There is a difference anyway, because in that situation it was while the players were celebrating the goal so it didn't delay the game.

Yesterday the pitch invader did delay the game.

I find it strange that you support the kneeing in the head , which is disproportionate, is dangerous and is also ABH which carries a custodial sentence. I am not defending him, but a three year ban is hardly the same level as ABH. Most supporters around me were cheering and egging him on , and the guy was running out of ideas and under control when the kneeing took place.

I can’t stand fans who try to defend the indefensible !!

So you’d be happy if this happened a couple more times this season and we end up playing a game “behind closed doors” which is a sanction available to the EFL ?

Once might well be OK, but clubs have been sanctioned in the past and will be again for persistent breaches.

As I said in a previous post, in the height of excitement in a big game it’s perfectly understandable even if it’s wrong.

Yesterday that was not the case. It was pre-planned by an idiot wanting to be the “big man”.

You appear to making assumptions of my opinion of the “invader”. What he did was wrong but it was hardly the crime of the century and the actions taken against him were illegal and could result in serious injury.
If it was such a crime how come thousands of fans were cheering and egging him on to the point of encouraging him.Too many do gooders have too much to say behind a keyboard.

I know a few posters on here ( including myself) have run on the pitch in the excitement of a goal or promotion ( which is also illegal ) so for me to call him out for why he did would be hypocritical. I’m sure if City won promotion again there would be pitch invasions that are not permitted.

I don't understand how those of us in the pass who have ran onto the pitch can be accused of being hypocritical comparing it to this idiot.

Most pitch invasions have been celebrations while this act was to distract the game. Big difference.

The club , police and referee are all satisfied with the way the incident was dealt with, if they thought the steward deliberately assaulted the fan he would be sacked and arrested. The club will now face a heavy fine because its the second incident this season following on from the more comprehensible(but still illegal) Swansea invasion. Our stadium licence to organise matches demands that the club does all it can to protect the safety of the players and playing area. We deploy hundreds of stewards and specific pitch runners to try to prevent or deter fans from running on the pitch, but if a fan/fans then beat this deterrent and make it on to the pitch, the picture changes.

Firstly we do not know their intentions, are they dangerous like the lad who attacked Billy Sharp? Have they got a weapon on them? Have they got political reasons and want to throw stuff on the surface or chain themselves to the posts with handcuffs like "just stop oil" ? We simply do not know, so the pitch runners job is to act quickly and detain them, which could be a risk to themselves.

Once that is done and play can be resumed, the police take over and sanctions take place, the person will be arrested and bailed ready for court...he will be given a Football banning order and probably a £100 fine....so what would you do now, honest opinions? Apply for costs to cover the fine the EFL will give the club or simply let it go? If the club does apply for costs and the judge agrees this, THE fan could face a £10000 bill, his little bit of showing off to the girls for a bet will not seem so funny then.

I already know some will say the club are spoiling peoples fun making a mountain out of a molehill etc etc etc, the reality is if the club did not act then the club would be in all sorts of trouble with the EFL It was a stupid thing to do and he doesn't seem bothered about a ban anyway but a financial loss in this case might make him regret his actions and be a deterrent to others?

Re: " The pitch invader today "

Mon Oct 09, 2023 11:45 am

Out of curiosity how do they police a stadium ban? Could easily get his mates to buy him tickets surely

Is it just for the CCS or all football games?

Genuinely don't know
