Who’s the best penalty taker the club’s ever had?
Just a quick guess is it Chris Pike or Ross McCormack?

Witts - without a shadow of doubt

Can only remember Whitts missing one,and Forde ex Cardiff saved it.
Brilliant penalty taker and maybe a better free kick taker - Legend

Whitts would get my vote also.
In recent years, would have to say that Ralls has been reliable. I think he's missed a couple but not many players score every penalty they take these days due to the increased research goalkeepers can do. Erling Haaland even missed one the other week.
Ralls has always stepped up to take the responsibility with penalties and often he has scored them. Similar can be said about Wintle for the penalty against Sheffield Wednesday.
I get why Ramsey is now our penalty taker, I never believed he'd miss against Swansea (despite that crucial penalty he missed for Rangers), but I think Ralls and Wintle are two other great options when Ramsey isn't playing.

Without a doubt it has to be Ronnie Bird. He usually sent them into the top corner and they were unstoppable. The only one he missed in his career came in a Welsh Cup game with our friends down west. Not the greatest player ever to pull on a blue shirt but for me, our greatest ever penalty taker.

He missed one at Barnsley. I think it was the game after that miss against Millwall. It was a cracking save by Forde though.

I’d agree with Whitts though Kieffer Moore found the top corner on the few that he took for us.

Ross McCormack.
Whitts also missed one at Palace, mid week game.

No1 Whitts.
Special mentions to, Pike, Stantona, Robbie James.

I would say Whitts, but I can’t remember Pike missing many from the spot.

Whittingham 100% IMO
Not to take away anything from McCormack as he was a very good player for us but I seem to think he missed 3 (?) penalties in a row near the end of the season we finished outside of the playoffs on goal difference. Think it was 2009. That was a bit hard to take

Gary Madine and Junior Hoilett

Also, I seem to remember Whitts smashing X2 of those misses in on the rebound

At WBA he missed one but got the rebound.
The 3 mentioned above were clear misses.

There's another one then, I thought at Ninian it got saved and hit in the rebound, I could be wrong though. Either way fantastic penalty taker

We can add Anthony Gerrard and Kenny Miller to that list.

Going way back i cant remember gary bell ever missing from the spot. But whits for me asno.1

I was really surprised to see that Whitts actually missed 5 (scored 28) !!
I’ve certainly never been as confident that we’d score a penalty with any other player despite that number if misses !!

I don't think Pikey ever missed one? I remember him missing one, but the Ref let him retake it, in which he scored.

I'm sure I looked up pens whitts took for us and I think I'm right in saying he scored 29 out of 33 and the 4 he missed didn't cost us the game.
Wed Oct 18, 2023 6:02 pm
Correction 28 out of 33 and we ended up losing 2 matches of the 5 missed pens.

Not Len Davies..

Bristol City at Ninian Park - kick saved by the keeper (Basso maybe) but Whitts buried the rebound
