Clarity after concern over suspension rules at Sheffield Wednesday duo booked -

Sheffield Wednesday will not have to deal with any suspensions when the Owls take on Cardiff City this weekend.

There was some concern amongst the fanbase in the last few days that both Barry Bannan and Di’Shon Bernard may be set for a one-game ban following the picking up of their fifth yellow cards in the win over Queens Park Rangers. However that is not the case.

Bannan and Bernard were both booked on Saturday to receive their fifth bookings of the campaign, though unlike Callum Paterson and Josh Windass it happened after the 19-game mark that results in a suspension.

Paterson and Windass served a one-game ban after hitting five before 19 games, but from game 20 through to game 37 the limit goes to 10 bookings before a suspension comes into play - and if double figures are reached them the player in question will have to sit out the next two matches.

Wednesday’s players picked up five bookings in the late 2-1 win over QPR at the weekend, but they don’t actually have many players who are running the risk of missing two matches at this point in time – the aforementioned four are on five each, while Juan Delgado is the only other that has received more than three.

Delgado is still out of action as he recovers from a hip injury so is unlikely to pick up any further cautions in the near future, and Danny Röhl will be eager to keep it that way as he looks to have all hands to the grindstone going into the second half of the campaign.

Sheffield Wednesday -

Injury blow for Sheffield Wednesday loan star but two key men are back to face Cardiff City
Injury could have curtailed the loan spell of one of Sheffield Wednesday’s players ahead of a key period of the season.

Midfielder John Buckley underwent an operation on Thursday on a shoulder injury sustained in the dramatic 2-1 win over Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

Buckley came off the bench for the eighth time during his loan spell with the Owls but had to leave the game early after a collision with Sam Field.

Parent club Blackburn Rovers have an option to recall the 24-year-old from his season-long loan in January.

“He will be out for the next weeks,” confirmed Rohl whose side begin the busy Christmas schedule of four games in nine days with a home game against Cardiff City on Saturday.

Perry Ng a doubt for Owls clash

Perry Ng faces a late fitness test in order to be fit for the clash against Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow.

The Bluebirds are sweating on his availability after the right-back, who has been one of City's star men this season, sustained an ankle injury in training.

"There are some small pains, some players have," Bulut said. "Some players were sick, but everyone was at training today. Only Ng has a bit of pain in his ankle. He will speak to the doctor [on Friday] and we will see. He trained [on Thursday] but felt a bit of pain. We will know more [on Friday]."

Meanwhile, Erol Bulut also provided an update on the progress of Callum O'Dowda and Aaron Ramsey. He said: "They are training well. Aaron is training more and more every week. O’Dowda is a bit further with this. He is doing the first part of the sessions with the team. I hope as soon as possible both of them will be back in the squad. We need every player."

Danny Rohl “very happy” as Sheffield Wednesday receive big injury boost

This is great news for Owls supporters as a key man returns.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl admits he is “very happy” as a popular Owls player recovers from injury ahead of the weekend action.

Sheff Wed's relegation battle
Rohl's side may still be languishing near the bottom of the Championship table, but there is no doubt that a feeling of positivity has returned to the club.

Callum Paterson injury boost -

According to The Sheffield Star's Joe Crann, who cited Rohl's quotes, Callum Paterson is "back" from injury for Sheffield Wednesday and in contention to face Cardiff on Saturday afternoon.

Sheffield Wednesday injury update ahead of Cardiff tie

Former Bluebirds utility man Callum Paterson has shaken off an injury scare to be fit to face his old club tomorrow.

“He’s back in training, he’s fine. I was very happy when I got the result from his scan and everything was fine - this was a good thing," manager Danny Rohl said of Paterson.

“This time of year it’s good to have a lot of players available… He’s a guy who can run, fight, sprint and cross very well - I’m very happy to have players available, and it’s good to have him back.

“Bambo (Diaby) is also back in training, which is also a good signal. It’s fantastic, he’s a fighter who always has good recovery and does all the things we need. So yeah, he’s also back."

Goal threats Josh Windass and Michael Smith are doubts for the Bluebirds' visit on Saturday, while John Buckley will be out for another couple of weeks.

Time to get the season back on track, however this isn’t an easy game despite Wednesday’s position in the table.

Need to keep a lid on Barry Bannan because if allowed to, he will control the game.

Meite does well on this right-hand side, skinning Musaba and earning a foul from him. Free-kick near the touchline and City will swing one in.
