Landlords dumping properties en bloc means councils are now putting up homeless families in huge numbers. Well done Mr Drakeford.. a safe pair of hands as my two lefty mates in Pontcanna generously describe him.

Statement:
In Wales we have too many levels of government all being wasteful in their own ways.
Tier 1 - 22 local authorities all looking after themselves and more importantly overseeing services for 3.2 million people ( many English authorities govern a this means 22 CEOs costing an average of £180K each as well as 22 paid leaders of councils with all the structure that is required below that level.
Question why is it that we have some LAs for up to 80k people and others with 3.5K people5 Police Commissioners (politicians) ???
Tier 2 - Welsh Government with 60 MS plus all the support mechanisms required to sustain it
Tier 3 - 38 PMs
Tier 4 - Numerous government quangos
When we get the leader of Local government authorities in Wales bleating about having to safeguard jobs he probably means his own and all of his cronies.
If we were to trim that lot down and organise it in a logical order then we as the people of Wales would get the services needed

Sorry should have said 350K not 3.5K

WAG are a disgrace and it will get worse...
The 'homeless' situation is a national disgrace, as is the announcement of huge Council Tax rises for already stretched families who can ill afford them, for even less services in return...
And all that to hide the costs of the addition of 15 new sponging, ineffective AM's...
As I said, a national disgrace...!

Rubbish she was there a couple of weeks her idiotic chaos was corrected months ago, it's because of inflation, and the rates will be going down next year.

Drakeford and his under qualified, over promoted cronies are an absolute disgrace and a disaster for Wales
Not quite sure how they have managed to fool the Country for so long
However, I have noticed over the last 12 months there is some real resentment towards Welsh Labour and it’s stirring up some strong feelings so hopefully they will suffer at the next election

Was never going to be long before England was lobbed in.. default deflection mo for the inexplicable. Anyway, everybody’s CT is due to rocket as a result.

Nonsense. The interests rates are still around treble what they were before Truss ruined the markets.
That means that anyone looking to take out or renew a mortgage is having to pay around £300-£400 per month on an average priced house !!
Anyone thinking that the economy is safe in Tory hands had better take another look at the facts.
Blame Drakeford for 20mph, etc., but this property crisis started in Whitehall not WG.
Thu Dec 21, 2023 9:50 pm
In part that’s true, but has always been the case and is cyclical . Combined with increased regulation, it’s not worth it any more. Taxpayers will pick up the tab for Drakefords lunacy. They don’t understand business in the slightest.

I’m not sure “landlords dumping properties on block” is a bad thing in the long run.
Those properties come back on the market and the more that are available for private buyers the more the prices stabilise/reduce.
There is a debate as to whether “buy to let” mortgages should be encouraged anyway.
I know a couple of mates who are landlords, one owns a rental property by way of a buy to let mortgage the other owns outright. The one with the mortgage is looking to sell before he has to renew his current deal, the other is perfectly happy !!
None of that is within the power of the Welsh Government.
Fri Dec 22, 2023 6:13 am
Rest assured it’s definitely the WAG that are slowly crippling the rental market. As I landlord myself the sheer amount of new regulations they have brought in are ridiculous and basically handed all the power to tenants.

The homeless problem a direct result of immigration yet very few people say it. We need to reverse immigration. There needs to be a referendum on immigration, how can our elites force it on us like this

Simple supply and demand, the more people we let in, the more houses we need. Shortage of supply increases cost.

It hasn’t been called the WAG for over a decade, so with that in mind, why should anyone believe the accuracy of anything else in the post?
At the end of the day, the government in London hold the purse strings, they have cut the budget to the WG, and the WG are just passing it on.
Blame the WG? Yeah, by all means. They could take money away from the health service to fund councils. They deffo have the power to make that decision.
However, when it comes funding, the buck stops with the UK Gov and that’s a fact.

Spot on !
What about the £2.5 billion of WELSH taxes that has gone towards HS2 that doesn’t even come anywhere near our country !!!!
£2.5 billion would be a significant amount of money for even the NHS which accounts for nearly half the WG budget !!
But the Tories keep all this quiet so that they can blame the WG !! We’re not that stupid !!
Fri Dec 22, 2023 5:32 pm
There is no property shortage.i know people who through sheer hard work or inheritance own multiple properties .they don't rent them out they just let them sit empty

The budget is set according to the formula and is fair. The issue is the new Landlords Charter and not with funding from London. Incessantly blaming London is another of Welsh Labours cringeworthy mantras.

That’s where we differ. The funding formula (Barnett Formula) is not fair. It takes no account of the population profile or rurality and is open to abuse like the UK government dictating what is a “national” project like HS2.
Until the formula is reviewed (it’s now well over 20 years old) Wales will always be screwed, particularly when the UK is governed by a different party to that governing Wales.
This current government does everything they can to hammer the WG simply because they are Labour run.
Fri Dec 22, 2023 11:53 pm
Rightly so. If you’re hanging on to the old(real) Labour Party, they don’t exist anymore. Looking at SM’s backgrounds a theme emerges. They all studied in four disciplines, Law, History, Politics, and Social Sciences.
That is a recipe for disaster which should be addressed by that party. Who’s representing industry and commerce. Nobody since 1999.
98% of the population want to know how unemployment is to be tackled and jobs created, not how a member supports gay rights, immigrants, and feminists. As a political entity, Labour are shot to bits.

It’s worse than I thought.. Vaughan Gething is Minister for the Economy. Solicitor and Union nut. We’re well and truly fucked.

Drakeford always has been, and will be an absolute tit.
However, the housing crisis isn’t his fault. The housing crisis is down to the Tories allowing people to buy their council houses, but then not building more to replace what was sold.

Yep, that council house sell off was just a license to print money for rich private landlords and the housing stock has never recovered.

So a council house houses a family, then it’s sold to the same family. Why does that property have to be “replaced?”

Most private landlords are far from rich, the average portfolio is three properties, many of them mortgaged to the hilt.
