Anyone know why the Wales games are only on S4C and not main tv channels. Yes, I know we are Welsh, but not all of us can speak fluent Welsh and the subtitles get annoying. Is there a contract with S4C?

Brennan blow

Wales must do without in-form Brennan Johnson after the Tottenham winger picked up a second Nations League booking in Reykjavik to receive a one-match ban.

Johnson put Wales ahead in Iceland by scoring in his seventh successive game and was a constant threat before being replaced at half-time due to what manager Craig Bellamy described as a “precaution”.

Wales never carried the same threat in Iceland after Johnson’s withdrawal and Bellamy will be determined there is no repeat against Montenegro.

Second helpings needed -

The same pattern has unfolded in Wales’ three games under Bellamy – blistering starts and impressive first-half performances followed by a drop off in intensity during the second period.

Wales held on to win in Montenegro after scoring twice in the opening three minutes, Iceland were perhaps unlucky not to take all three points after trailing 2-0 at the interval.

The lack of minutes many of the squad are currently having at club level could be a factor in sustaining the energy needed to carry out Bellamy’s all-action front-foot style of football.

Midfield concerns

Injuries to skipper Aaron Ramsey and Ethan Ampadu weakened the Wales midfield before the trip to Iceland.

Jordan James’ second booking in the competition in Reykjavik and subsequent suspension has added further concern over that particular area.

Joe Allen, having reversed his decision to retire from international football, was not fit enough to make the 23-man matchday squad in Iceland. The only other natural central midfielder available is Josh Sheehan, who plays for League One Bolton.

Biter banned

Preston’s Montenegro striker Milutin Osmajic would have been public enemy number one in Cardiff after biting Blackburn’s Welsh defender Owen Beck during a Deepdale clash last month.

Osmajic was given an eight-match ban and fined £15,000 for an incident that evoked memories of former Liverpool forward Luiz Suarez’s chomping antics.

That's still in the Welsh language because BBC iPlayer use S4C's coverage.

The issue has occured because ViaPlay signed a contract with S4C to cover Wales matches until 2028.

But then ViaPlay decided to scale back their UK coverage on TV, so now the games are just live on S4C in the UK.

It's worse for Scotland. They also had a contract to have matches shown live on ViaPlay. So when their live TV coverage was scaled back, they didn't have a back-up like we do with S4C. They used to have matches shown on BBC Scotland but that stopped with this contract with ViaPlay.

Last month, ITV picked up their two games but this month they're only available on YouTube.

Was much better when Sky had the contract, hopefully something similar will happen in the future but it's difficult with ViaPlay having a contract until 2028.

You can’t not be worried by that team. Hopefully Bellamy knows what he’s doing.

I don’t think the team is too bad.

I’d have Moore on maybe instead of Harris, but other than that it looks to be strong enough.

Montenegro aren’t exactly Turkey, so we should be ok.

Agree with that. The team doesn't look too bad, considering that Johnson is suspended.

There was bound to be a bit of rotation and that's a team that should win, particularly with good options on the bench.

Wales deservedly lead thanks to Wilson's penalty.

Only one team in it at the moment, second goal will kill the game.

Iceland 1-0 up against Turkey, be good if it stays like that.

As it stands, we're top of the group.

Good win, but we made it difficult for ourselves again.

Important we got the three points because Turkey won, so I'm pleased with the result.

But there are definitely issues with the level dropping dramatically in the second half.

Hopefully the problem can be identified by Bellamy and his coaching team between now and November.

Best Welsh performance under Bellamy so far imo. Good passing, formation and determination, especially with a limited squad.

A lot of credit to Bellamy tonight.
The team played. Very well. We are a small country with a limited choice of players (not worldbeaters).
But all the players seemed well drilled and there was good interplay and passing. He wasn’t afraid to make subs who slotted in well. They all knew their job and were a proper TEAM.

Very encouraging after the dross under Page. A little more composure and the scoreline would’ve been very different. No doubt Bellamy will work on that.
