Breaking: Omer Riza flies to Malaysia to meet Vincent Tan

Thu Nov 14, 2024 11:52 am

Omer Riza has been asked to go to Malaysia to meet Vincent Tan and discuss his future as manager of Cardiff City.

It’s international break ,so a visit to Malaysia was planned in the meantime and that is likely to spell positive news for Riza, who is keen to have his first proper job in management and wants to prove his worth at Championship level after making an a mixed start in his nine-game tenure so far.

Riza who had never been a manager before only for 4 matches for Leyton Orient in the Non League when they lost all 4 and was replaced.

At Cardiff Riza had played 9 games Won 4 Drawn 2 Lost 3

But Riza has taken Cardiff back in to the bottom 3.

Tan very rarely comes to CCS and has never met Riza, Riza joined the management in July this year.
So Riza suits Tan as he wants a young manager and as Tan is not prepared to invest much more in the Bluebirds, Riza will be the type of manager that Tan can work with.

With Cardiff City back in the bottom three under Riza, Tan wants to discuss the future and see how they can work together.
Since Riza took charge two months ago Tan has not looked for another manager.

Omer Riza has been involved in all 15 matches as part of the management this season including 9 matches as Manager:

That probably means he's getting the job.

Don't think anyone has ever been called over to Malaysia for him to sack them.

That's exactly how I see it too.

He's done a good job as interim and I believe we will finish mid table under him this season. BUT.... there is a perfect manager currently out of work who would be ideal for us in Mark Robbins but as usual it looks like we're going for the cheap option.

Honesty needed here - won 4 all at home and lost 1 against poor sides like Portsmouth and Plymouth, Milwall at the time were just above us and Norwich who we beat with 2 very late goals and who themselves were on a terrible run. Riza is clearly a good guy but is not experienced enough. Tan will meet him and tell him exactly what HE wants. The hierarchy are a disgrace and have absolutely no rapport or care for the fans. If he is appointed I fear the worse.

Agree, Ned; and in line with what we were originally told…!

Personally, I still think he should be given a bit of time but not a long contract. That way, he can prove himself or otherwise in the knowledge his efforts (good or bad) will dictate his future…

Keep him on his toes, I say…! :ayatollah:

Is anyone really suprised?? A glut of managers available who are all better than Riz (in my opinion) this is a bad move and we'll be looking for a replacement come christmas.

I’m going to get behind him if he gets the job full time. He’ll need all the support he can get.

It’s a Massive NO from me, but I love my club and will of course want Riza to do well.

We’ve been down this road so many times and never learn.

Tan wants Riza because he’s Cheap, under his total control and NO Ambition at all.

This will not excite Our Fans, Crowds are already dwindling fast.

I like Riza, seems an honest down to eart guy but I think if he is appointed then it will be a bad move and as previous posters have mentioned of course he is going to be a yes man to Tan just to get the job.

Hope I am massively wrong but think its League 1 for us.

Sadly have to agree, I fear its League 1 here we come! The writing on the wall, particularly the last home match, where we got done because we came up against a side that know how to be clinical, whilst we have NO STRIKER!

Tan is a prime example of a totalitarian dictator (in his own empire), he is a puppet master requiring total control and absolute power. Takes advice from nobody except those 2 idiots Dalman and ChooChoo and occasionally his mother!

Well Vincent, you're about to pay a long overdue visit to League 1 which will considerably devalue CCFC.

I hope he does well of course, but this is very disappointing.

We need to be looking long term, not a quick fix because he's done well for 5/6 games.

The line up for the last 2 games were worrying enough, 4 wingers on the pitch does not work.

If riza is not happy with what tan tells him he can simply revert to day time job ! Never understand why people are so disparaging about someone doing a job under extreme pressure.... one can say everyone employed is a yes man unless want to get sacked and say no? Would you say no to a big payrise and promotion monty? You would if not happy with yhe conditions of employment so why can't riza be same. .

Re: Breaking: Omer Riza flies to Malaysia to meet Vincent Ta

I’m honestly not sure how I feel.

Up until the last 2 games I thought Riza would be a good appointment to the end of the season but I’m worried about some of the tactics (or the lack of them) to change things when they’re not working.

I honestly believe this is a top 10 squad that just needs the right manager …….. and a striker.

I don’t want Robbins (he’s been hit and miss all his career), I would want Bilic but even then it’s a gamble and, based on what we have seen recently, is Riza any more of a risk ? He certainly had us playing some excellent football and we could actually see a plan, unlike Bulut, Hudson, etc.

Re: Breaking: Omer Riza flies to Malaysia to meet Vincent Ta

I don't think an experienced manager would guarantee a successful season or even that we stay in this division just as much as someone new wouldn't guarantee relegation so whoever it ends up being should get everybody's support.

I also think that Tan has been burnt more than once with longer contracts & having to pay compo once the manager doesn't work out, which may have something to do with our not getting an experienced manager in, they probably wouldn't want to come here on anything less than a 3-year contract which I doubt very much Tan is offering to anyone no matter how experienced. People say Tan wants the cheap option, yet others say we pay more than the championship average so that can't be it. You can't have it both ways but I would go for length of contract over not paying enough being the issue.

I’m a glass half full man and wish him well if he gets it,yes he’s raw but some encouraging signs.Who knows we are due a good one from the back up team. :bluescarf:

All i have said is he will accept the mangers job at a big club like cardiff regardless of no money in january simply because as you have pointed out its a pay rise and a contract and to be head at the club.
Riza does not strike me as someone who is going to argue with tan about funds and wanting to secure promises,
he has said he wants the job end of,
and so tan has summoned him to his gaff to tell him how its going to be if he wants the job riza is not going to turn it down.

Your right monty seriously doubt if he would turn down any offer from Tan so let's hope its only end season.

Be interesting if he does get the job and we are still in bottom 3 come january that would be tans last chance to get it right and may panic

We have emotion tied up and a couple of hundred quid for our season tickets or match day tickets, Tan has tens of millions. Relegation is massive for him, I'll still go next season if we got relegated, of course, i wouldn't be happy but that's life.

Tan had been stung by experienced managers more than rookies. The problem is he hasn't found his rough diamond yet.

I also feel we are slowly following the structure of most clubs with the recruitment being independent of the manager/head coach, where they agree we need a mobile center forward and they go and try to find and recruit one. Not sure is old-schoolers would go for that, but even guys in their 50's are probably used to that.

I am fine with Riza he just needs an experienced assistant and another coach who has the same beliefs as him

Only Cardiff would do this in a time when there are people like Robins, Mowberry, Billic etc all available....

Unless Harry Kane fancies a player-manager role it doesn't matter who we get. It is more important to get a center forward and 2 wingers and i hope he is there to get the cash for that
