A forum for all things Cardiff City

Posted on another thread but worthy of it's own:
"At a time when the club is in negotiations to intoduce more investment and is actively in discusions with interested parties demonstrations and banners are counterproductive. We dont want a reputation as being too hot to handle, we want a reputation as a club who passionately follow and support their club and team especially in times of adversity these are qualities potential owners and investors look for. We understand your frustration but we have still travelled along way since the mid nineties. At that time we could only dream of the fixtures and the stadium we now occupy. Keep the faith" Steve BorleyCopy right
www.annisabraham.co.ukWe may feel many things about the current set-up/board but for many Steve is the voice of the fans/reason on the board. If he is making this plea then surely we have to listen
Many will find that frustrating but is this the time to show the club or it's supporters in a negative light
I would suggest a crowd (albeit small) enthusiastically backing the team in adversity is much more likely to give potential investors the push they need
If there is no progress over the next week or so then I reserve the right to be first in line voicing my opinions directly to Mr Ridsdale

I replied to Steve's post in that thread but will re-iterate what I said. Let's stay patient until the end of January. That was the deadline for when Ridsdale said we would be getting new players in. If, come that date, we have been proven to be conned then we can take action but until then I think we should just concentrate on verbally venting our anger on here and supporting the boys on the pitch.
Mon Jan 18, 2010 2:31 pm
And i shall say again, WE WILL NOT HAVE ANY NEW PLAYERS IN JANUARY that is fact
Mon Jan 18, 2010 2:37 pm
And I will reply to you again, let's just wait and then say 'we told you so' rather than jumping the gun.
Love the mirrored topic here! a double dose of Bluebirdbaz/ Zabier. What more could the members want?!

If we can't show some loyalty to Steve then we all fucked,he takes no credit, asks for nothing so th eleast we can do is respect his wishes.
if you believe this man wants what's best for the club rather than himself like so many others, then you'll support his call.
Let's show everyone how passionate we can be,the team need us and if we get behind them like we did at Bristol, I'm sure they'll respond.
Be patient (and you wont hear me saying that often) change for the better is coming soon, let's just bite the bullet a little bit longer.
Got it in for Ridsadle, witch hunt my arse, he ain't seen anything yet, I can't believe how passive we've become, the man don't know he's born.

Isn't this the important part of that message
"At a time when the club is in negotiations to intoduce more investment and is actively in discusions with interested parties"
That would seem to indicate that the negotiation stage has been reached with at least one of the potential investors (i.e. they are making offers) and that has arosed the interest of other parties who the club is in touch with.
Now this info comes from Steve Borley not PR so it should be spin free.
If so then surly we have an obligation to tow the line for now?

The Echo, ok not the scripture of all things true but still it has printed this, has done an interview with that Ben Steele today, as did SKY Sports yesterday and they've both suggested Steele is now the main contender.
Now forgive me for sounding spoilt but sources seem to suggest Steele has a net worth of £200m. Now for a club that is estimated to be in £40m debt... don't we need a bigger money spinner than that to come in if we're to solve our current problems?

Steve Borley spoke to Annis this morning and Annis said that he will explain later
thanks

I think its £40m to buy the club and settle all outstanding debts (£23m debt/£17m to buy the club)
However it's a valid point that Steele would be using 20% of his wealth just to get through the door. Unless he is a right nutter it is hard to see how he could afford to put much more in for team stregthening.
That said I suppose the club would become self financing without having to service any debt, although Steele is bound to follow Hammam and Ridsdale's example by become Chairman on a salary of £500,000 P/A

He would'nt use his own money. It would be borrowed just like Sam.
Thats what makes business men either rich or poor, the way they handle borrowed money

With some decent management there is no reason why we can't survive if our debts were to be wiped out. PR said that 18000 was our break even figure and we are averaging above that.
The stadium is still not being used to full capacity and there is plenty of potential additional income (re-vamping the Premier Club could make it much more attractive).
I would say that a self-financing club without the ongoing debt we have been carrying is much preferable to the current uncertainty and chaos even if we don't get significant monies to spend on players.
Just think what we could have done (with or without DJ
) if the manager had been able to re-invest any transfer fees into the squad

I have been trying to find out a bit more about Mr Steele from business contacts in Guernsey. No feedback to date to suggest he is worth anything like £200m. Awaiting further info. , but getting solid information is like trying to knit fog!
Mon Jan 18, 2010 3:24 pm
Hahaha, that's an awesome metaphor. Trying to knit fog. Never heard that before but will defintiely be using it! That's just as good as my mate saying 'I'll be there in two flicks of a pig's whiskers' or my girlfriend saying 'yeah, it's neutral... like Sweden... I mean er, Switzerland, yeah, that's it'.
I have always prided myself on being a relatively good judge of character even by looking at how people pose in photographs. There's something about Ben Steele. Whether it's confidence or slimeyness yet... I don't know. The fact he states 'I want to own a Premier League' suggests from the start that he's only in this for himself. Saying that, if he's honest with us, he's won us over to start with.
