The reason for invading Ireland was for it's land and the reason for trying to maintain it was strategic, militarily and economoically.
If you've studied world economics you would have seen a geographical pattern emerging from from east to west. Starting with thr Romans trading with spices and china etc etc. This is evident with the Medici family for instance, but anyway
the discovery of the Americas led to a geographical shift from the east to the west. This was further enhanced during the industrial revolution when Chicago was being built blah blah blah fecking blah.
So the "NOVEAUX RICHE AND ROYALTY OF BRITAIN" thought of Ireland as a nice little garden where they could hunt, shoot, fish, build stately homes and have their next port of call as the USA.
As well as having control of the Atlantic coast.
At the same time as these cnuts were robbing and shooting their way across the globe they were sending the men and children of south wales down pits that were unsafe and still remained unsafe even as late as 1966, God Bless them.
Welsh people owe them nothing they robbed wales and gave the mines to the jocks, bute, loudon etc.

It's a small minority of Celtic fans who sing about the OLD IRA .. who fought for independance in Ireland. Songs like 'The Boys of the Old Brigade' who were recently honoured by the Queen during her recent state visit - are rarely song nowadays and when they are it is by a small minority of fans.
It's very well known that Celtic have a large Irish following, and considering the attrocities that British troops once commited in Ireland, it's not really surprising that Celtic have a small element amongst their support who are less than fullsome in their praise of the British army and the Poppy.
If I am honest, I believe their is no place at Celtic Park for political songs. However as I said it is only a small minority of Celtic fans who sing them. I'm sure I read a comment in the thread which critisised Celtic fans for flying the Tri-Color. Celtic were founded by Brother Walfrid, and Irish immigrant, have a huge Irish following, their first manager was Irish, even the first sod of turf is from Donegal. it is perfectly acceptable for fans to celebrate that in waving the Irish tri-color.
As for the claims of interupted minutes of silence. The last time Celtic fans took part in a minutes silence was the one held last season at Ibrox for the victims of the Ibrox disaster which was observed impeccably by the visiting Celtic support. As soon as the whistle was blown the Rangers fans errupted into a chorus of The Famine Song.
Whenever Celtic fans travel away in Europe they are welcomed and boast awards from UEFA for behaviour. I don't even have to mention Manchester.
Comparing that with Rangers who have the whole stadium, literally thousands upon thousands of people sing songs about killing Catholics, popes, being up to their knees in fenian blood and mocking the death of a million people with 'The Famine is over why don't you go home?'
They've been fined three times in the past five consecutive years for sectarian singing. Their fans are now banned from attending their games in the Champions League next season. Find me an instance where Celtic have been punished for anything like this?!? Along with the Rangers season ticket holders who were arrested for the attempted murder of Celtic's manager. The season hasn't even started and they have been involved in sectarian incidents already. Last week a pre season friendly against Stirling Albion was almost called off at half time due to sectarian singing by Rangers fans.
Celtic are a club open to all races and religions, the club itself has great traditions . Rangers had a strict no Catholic signing policy until just twenty years ago.
All this and it's Celtic fans you hate?
I think what deserves hate is the amount of racist comments in this thread. I'd also like to know why some of the members of this forum "hate" Neil Lennon? I think some of you need to do a bit of reserach before you go around spouting racist bile like that and giving Cardiff a bad name.

i go to the pub to watch the old firm play each other with my mates, some are celtic the rest are rangers. we all get smashed and they take it in turns signing each of the songs to each other but they never fall out. my personal opinion is both clubs are as bad as each other. they both have an element that makes my skin crawl. but the vast majority are a good bunch.
truth is i couldnt give a flying f*ck about anything other than the football side of things. only got one love Cardiff City and i hope they smash celtic tonight.

Last week a pre season friendly against Stirling Albion was almost called off at half time due to sectarian singing by Rangers fans.
Given the conflicting reports in various media outlets concerning the activities at last nights game, I called Stirling Albion to try and get to the bottom of said reports and managed to have a quite lengthy conversation with their (very helpful) press officer Paul Goodwin.
Mr Goodwin, who is happy to be quoted, had the following to say in response;
• There was, to his knowledge, no sectarian singing at all last night. Indeed, he only recognised two of the songs, those being The Sash and Rule Brittania.
• There were announcements made over the tannoys - Police messages that if sectarian singing was indulged in then arrests would be made. There were NO arrests.
• Mr Goodwin stated he felt the announcements were made as a standard warning and not in response to singing.
• A number of journalists were keen to clarify the events last night (Scotsman and BBC amongst them), with one journalist in particular 'tweeting' from the stadium. Mr Goodwin could not determine who that was and so could not confirm the name of the journalist.
• Mr Goodwin was at pains to offer his thanks to The Rangers support at large and how they contributed to a great atmosphere at the game. Indeed, he went on to offer his thanks to the club itself for helping Stirling Albion with this match.
He was keen to have these responses made available to Rangers supporters via our websites, then invited me to email him so he could write something for publication concerning the events. How refreshing - I can't really exaggerate how helpful and positive the gentleman was in responding to my questions.
Would it be possible for one of RM mods or admin to message me and I can pass on Mr Goodwins email so the site itself can publish his written responses? And would anyone know how best to inform our club itself of the spin being placed on the events at a pre-season friendly?
I dread to think what the press have planned for us if there is this level of motivation and interest at a match vs Stirling Albion.

I don't know how else to put this so I'll just do it outright - liar. But of course, you already knew that - it probably just didn't fit your agenda.Celtic are a club open to all races and religions, the club itself has great traditions . Rangers had a strict no Catholic signing policy until just twenty years ago.
Another lie! The club didn't make a deal of signing Catholics, we had plenty on our books - Catholics openly decided against joining Rangers because our fans opposed the Catholic Church and feared they wouldn't be accepted by the Ibrox legions. No song sung at Ibrox gives a specific mention to killing Catholics at all, send your lies to PO Box GTF.
The famine song, a big debate in Scotland - and perhaps the world - in the season before last, gives no reference to mocking the dead in Ireland, the song suggests that Celtic fans who think themselves to be Irish have no reason to be in the country anymore if they aren't happy with how things work, and who we are ruled by. The song suggests - if you are Irish and hate the crown, f**k off home. Again though, that wouldn't suit the agenda that everyone's against Celtic though...I think what deserves hate is the amount of racist comments in this thread. I'd also like to know why some of the members of this forum "hate" Neil Lennon? I think some of you need to do a bit of reserach before you go around spouting racist bile like that and giving Cardiff a bad name.
Saying you hate Neil Lennon isn't racist, Neil Lennon isn't a race. The man is a complete and utter c**t who brings attention to himself through his actions and words. After cupping his ears to the Rangers support after the 0-0 draw at Ibrox at the end of the season he took abuse from our support, then claimed it was all a joke.
Fast forward to Australia recently, when the Rangers supporters clubs in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, etc (plus current Perth Glory manager Ian Ferguson) hired a plan to trail a banner hailing Rangers as the Champions over the stadium Celtic were about to kick off in. Lennon was fuming at this, he couldn't see it as a joke and branded it "pathetic".
This is the same Neil Lennon who is against sectarianism, but when playing for Celtic he spat on a Rangers scarf on the ground and mouthed "Orange Bastards" to the support. What a gentleman.
The shite you spout may work on other idiots in the world, but most football fans can see through the bullshit media drive Celtic have. Their "Please love us" stance is pathetic, and their "special relationships" with clubs around the world is nothing short of a cringe worthy attempt to try and side with clubs who you think have a similar political stance to yourselves, when in reality most of them just want to play and watch football - not side with a bunch of idiots about the Irish divide or the Palestine/Israel debate.
People just aren't that interested in Celtic.

The last time Celtic fans took part in a minutes silence was the one held last season at Ibrox for the victims of the Ibrox disaster which was observed impeccably by the visiting Celtic support. As soon as the whistle was blown the Rangers fans errupted into a chorus of The Famine Song.
I don't know how else to put this so I'll just do it outright - liar. Celtic fans, around 200 or so, took it upon themselves to clap (as if a minutes applause was what was asked for) during the first 20 seconds of the silence, which prompted a fair section of their support to then shout shutup. The only thing which erupted after the silence (can you call it that?) was a chorus of boos and "You're scum and you know you are", similar to when Celtic disrupted the silence on Remembrance Day in Falkirk.
Banned for one Champions League away game on the say so of FARE - a 'company' which no longer operates in Scotland (funny that) and was run by Piara Powar (whose wife openly supports the Jolly Craicster's Celtic and has an open Pro-IRA stance) - with no investigation by UEFA.
And to quash the "Last week a pre season friendly against Stirling Albion was almost called off at half time due to sectarian singing by Rangers fans" lie, I present you this:Given the conflicting reports in various media outlets concerning the activities at last nights game, I called Stirling Albion to try and get to the bottom of said reports and managed to have a quite lengthy conversation with their (very helpful) press officer Paul Goodwin.
Mr Goodwin, who is happy to be quoted, had the following to say in response;
But, again, you probably knew that already.Comparing that with Rangers who have the whole stadium, literally thousands upon thousands of people sing songs about killing Catholics, popes, being up to their knees in fenian blood and mocking the death of a million people with 'The Famine is over why don't you go home?'

The Old Firm rivalry really came to a head at the start of the 20th century, almost 30 years after the creation of Rangers, at which point Rangers were regularly entertaining many thousands of fans in other games, although admittedly the rivalry games are the biggest draws - as with all teams.
Had Celtic not been created, Rangers' closest rivals would have been Queens Park - who were the dominant force in World football, not just in Scotland.
It's obviously hard to tell what could have been in such a hypothetical situation, but from the early days Rangers were drawing far bigger crowds than most in the divisions, outwith Queens.
But yeah that's enough about Rangers and that lot
