He's not even a noted Championship player.

You are saying he is better defensively. But what is that supposed to mean? he is probably better defensively than Aaron Lennon but why are we seeking to play our best 'defensive' players?

ask the last few teams to go up how many of the players they had in the champ were good enough for the prem and how many still play there

He doesn't have the pace for PL success and his touch won't suffice.

Look at wingers from the teams promoted recently. Kebe, Dyer, Sinclair, McAnuff etc... all capable in the PL but have pace as a common denominator. Conway plays a steady game, we need MUCH more in the prem.

We need players who are going to try and get past an opponent and have that unpredictability factor. Like dyer does for swansea, kebe for reading etc.. conway never does something you don't expect.

We're not in the Prem, at least not yet and Malky is using the right players in the right games ATM in any case!

I don't think Dyer goes past too many players these days either, as Swansea's game is based on pass and move and not dribbling!

Why are you talking about the Prem? We are a championship team for minimum of 17 more games.

Maybe the 2 week break disrupted the momentum?
I thought this could happen, but at least it was weeds we were playing so there was no problem getting the points. :ayatollah:

Possibly mate, wasn't a dig at the team either.

I keep saying I'll take another 10 of those crappy 1-0 wins.

We had a good week away training and all the rest of it but nothing prepares youmore than a solid 90 minutes every week which Leeds had and obviously won and came out still buzzing. At kick off I'd have taken a draw away from home so by full time I was over the moon.

Conway was our second best performer at Blackpool behind Kim-Bo imo, his defensive work has helped Taylor out who is now looking a much better left back with a worker like Conway in front of him. Conway has chipped in with a couple of goals and a fair share of assists as well and I think the fact we have conceded only 2 goals in our last 11 and a half hours of football shows the difference Conway is making. What more can he do? I swear some of you are expecting him to perform like Ronaldo or Messi every game, it's astonishing!

His hard work makes up for a lack of quality imo. He doesn't have that many assists and btw its one goal. It's not enough. FACT. He is hard working but he isn't a top championship player. Some fans don't see the reality. Conway rarely beats a man and turns away in directions where a cross is not possible.

Like he did at Leicester you mean, where he kept twisting and turning, until he was in a better position to get a cross in, which Bellamy tucked away nicely, after Conway's good work!

I know he's not as exciting a player as Noone, but his all round game is better IMO!

Noone looks great running at defenders, but he puts us under a lot of pressure when he loses possession, which he does regularly!

This is clearly why Cowie has replaced him in a couple of our most recent home matches, as Malky has looked to close the game out!

I'm pretty certain that Noone was not chosen to play at Blackpool,, due to the condition of the pitch, where it was clearly not so easy to run at players with the ball!

Malky got his tactics and team selection spot on there, where Conway's & Kimbo's better technical abilities, saw them as close motm's!

Noone will still be needed in our run in and I'm sure he'll get us excited quite a few more times this season, but ATM, it's nice to have some good competition for places and seeing Malky using horses for the right courses!

Missed your posts OTM.

Fully agreed. The ball for Bellamy at Leicester Away was just perfect.

Forgot about Conway's assist at Birmingham as well, where his shot was too close to the goal for Butland to leave go and Mason followed up with a tap in! :D :ayatollah:

Re: Conway yesterday

Prefer Noone myself and does my head in people on about Noone not being good enough defensively hes in the team to attack first and foremost.

If Taylor isnt good enough to defend without Conway compromising on his attacking duties then he should have been upgraded in the January transfer window.

Conway is about as exciting as ready salted crisps.

Re: Conway yesterday

Mon Feb 04, 2013 6:16 pm

He's in the team to play a certain role and he's doing it brilliantly. Seems to have a great attitude as well. I'm also baffled at people criticizing his delivery, there is no way he deserves that. He doesn't have the flair of Noone and there's no question who is better to watch but if we get promoted Conway's performances will be a huge part of it. There are going to be games that are better suited for Conway and ones that are better suited for Noone and in my opinion having these options in midfield and up top are why we are ten points clear. Amazes me how can still pick out these negatives when we haven't lost in ages and top by miles.

Did Beckham have pace?

(not saying he's anywhere near Beckham's level) but still.

Re: Conway yesterday

Not rocket science this.

Away from home, Conway puts more of a shift in defensively. Its all about keeping the
opposition quiet. Leeds were on a six game winning streak and if they'd have got their
teeth into the game we could have been in a spot of bother. But we played one or two
more defence minded people. Leeds never really looked 'threatening' for long periods.
They certainly did f**k all out wide. Home games? I'd play Noone every time!!

Premiership?

Like someone posted, we got a few months before we need to start thinking about the
Premiership.
