He has come into a new squad, signed 7 players and played 3 cup games. Of course he has to look at everybody, and give players a chance. If he didn't, he would be accused of having favourites, as previous managers have. Your damned if you do and certainly damned if you don't do what this forum wants. As you have alluded to, he has had injuries to key players and injuries to others.

I thought Cala looked a class above Saturday. Not much for past him despite huge space in front of him. His use of the ball top class. Only one game but without a doubt first defender on the team sheet. I think a better team will sign him up in the summer.

I put him in as LB simply because we are struggling in that area & I think he could play it. Would be good help dealing with crosses from right to left post too

I am glad people are focusing on the fullbacks rather than whos the best to partner caulker. Its glaringly apparent that taylors lack of speed lets him down at this level even championship wingers could give him a torrid time and the argument was he wasnt given protection by the midfielder on his side of the field is wearing thin. We are in a dogfight and you need the players who are are going to give their all. There are not many who stand out and taylor isnt one of them. Thats not to pick him out and blame him alone because the majority dont look like theres any fight in them. Mcnaughton should be in the team all day his commitment and effort have never been in doubt and how many times as he been last man back with a goal saving tackle. if he is to be kept out because of distribution then can someone show me what the other full backs have contributed in this area. Wether he is prem class or not he is i.m.o. our best full back doing what they used to do and that is to defend. we are leaking goals at an alarming rate at the moment and the ship needs steadying. If that means we are losing supply to our front men then so be it perhaps that role could be filled by midfielders like it should be.

As it looks like we may be without Medel for a while, could Cala play in front of the back 4 instead?

It's too late to try another new formation, but a sort of 3 5 2 with the 3 centre backs and Fabio and John as wing backs might work?

Just a thought.

My team would be:

I think Fabio and John will become much better if we give them confidence. They also offer much more going forward than our other options.
Cala and Caulker can be an amazing partnership and i loved the anger i saw from Cala last match. He really wants to win.

Now the exciting part: Midfield

Medel: Anchor man Position in the hole between defence and midfield, intercepting moves and winning the ball back. Play simple passes to more creative teammates.

Mutch: Central midfielder Has the technical ability to play in attacking, support roles. He has a great shot and i see him in a Frank Lampard position where he comes on those runs where he threaths for goals.

Noone: Advanced Playmaker Noone will operate in the central midfield. Aim to drop into the holes between the opposition’s midfield and defence, making himself available for passes and aiming to turn defence into attack in an instant.
Noone has the stamina, he moves in the right direction, not afraid to shoot and he showed vs Man City how dangerous he is when he is allowed to move INTO the middle and shoot.

Some will shake their heads about this but i like it.

Bellamy: Attacking Midfielder Bellamy will operate higher up the pitch so he won’t be able to drive into space from deep like an attacking central midfielder would. He will be the annoying link that goes from side to side and drags defenders with him to open for through the middle passes for Campbell.

Campbell: Poacher I want Campbell to stop being everywhere. Hug the offside line, especially if they play a high line. Use his speed and energy for those fights he is best at.
Often feel he has burned out his energy chasing ghosts and when he is in position to score he is showing fatigue and lack of concentration.

Why no wingers?

We got Campbell on top. No point in having wingers who either go inside for shots or hoofs in a cross where he is alone with 2 tall strong CB.
We dont use any of his strenghts as a striker. I think he could score more if used correctly.

And i chose Bellamy over Dæhli just for experience. Both players take control and gets others to keep going but Bellamy has been in hard fights before and is a great player in my eyes for this fight.

Noone in midfield is a gamble but we saw last match that Rosenior had him by the balls. Noone always go on the inside, so why not use him in a position where he can go straight at goal and shoot?

I do not get offended if anyone thinks im a total nut but please do come with constructive criticism/praise.

Damn lol, Thanx man..

I was gonna change Eikrem for Whittingham so i cut him out of the post..Made a tea and Then i forgot to add Whitts to the formation and posted away :(

Sorry..

Whittingham: Central midfielder. Support role with many players around him and we know he can do those set pieces much better than he has shown so far..I want to see the confident Whitts again spraying passes in all directions..

Wish i could edit the last post :(

I agree that he has tried to change too much too soon but that doesn't mean the guy is not gonna get my backing. I certainly won't be chanting "sacked in the morning" any time soon.

The decent posters are leaving this forum in their droves because they are fed up of the agendas that are being peddled, I think when a feasible alternative is set up this forum will take a big hit.

i am afraid whoever came in was going to have to make big changes, either that or a Malky clone { in which case your best keeping Malky }.the big problem is/was the quality of players here..lots and lots of maybees..and only a small handfull of definates to build a team around way more difficult than it sounds, no doubt Ole has had advice re certain players capability, some good and some not so advice from all sorts of people, also players can flatter to decieve in training, its one thing playing training matches with mates another playing people that perhaps will hurt you. and to top this off he has had injuries and suspensions to some of those he would see as certain starters..
