Re: ' Cardiff City Set to offer a contract to 28 year old Wi

Must make sure Boro don't get him but would be a fantastic signing to pull off, we'd have a great strength in depth squad and with Ole's rotational policy it would benefit well

I think if it's genuine Ole will get his man, didn't he tutor him at United?

But what if we got mats playing in the center who you gonna have on the wing?, just cos we got better players for that position doesn't mean we can't have backup

Mutch, Whitts, Kimbo, Gunnar, Eikrem, Burgstaller - all can play central
Kimbo, Burgstaller - can play out wide

I'm not saying he would be a bad signing. We just have better options imo and the defence should be our priority

only Noone and Burgstaller are wingers! what if one gets injured? Eagles would be a decent signing... seems to be OGS likes rotation, so we need more depth out wide instead of playing CM out wide!

Whitts and Kimbo can both play out wide. Daehli played most of his games out wide for us last season.

Defence is the priority

............IMO

He was but mats is very young he is still developing, for the most part Mats is not a seen as a winger in the traditional sense the way noone is seen. . If you watch him he wanders inside quite a lot. He started out as a cam, he is played out wide mainly because he is small. His physicality is still not mature. Its very much debated including in Cardiff coaching team if they should play him in the middle, but because of his size they feel he It's better for the time being to play him on the wing. The other thing is ole likes to have back up in each position so 4 wingers is not too far fetched. That gives ole options and back up in the case of injuries. Whitts is too slow to play on the wing, not convinced kimbo can do a good job on the wing.

Ole is in contact with Norway's national coach, and they discussed Daehli - agreeing to play him on the wing until he develops more - that;s why he's out there. But he does a job, and cutting inside as a winger is fine.

I'm not saying that we shouldn't sign Eagles at all. I just dont think our midfield should be a priority, and I'de like to see us linked with some defenders

Plenty of time to get defenders in no need to panic

That was last season which was his first season in premiere league/ senior national team, they were pacing him carefully.
These kind of things are constantly evaluated many people feel he should play in the centre, rumour is Liverpool was/ is looking at him as a cam for the future. Opinions on his best position differ, It's possible ole wants to play him in the middle in certain matches where the opposition will suit him and that is why he wants to double up on the wings. Anyhow there is nothing wrong with competition for each place, it should make the players sharper. Plenty of time to sort out the defence.

Why do people not read my posts?
God forbid you might learn something

I am not panicking. I am merely saying that I believe we need to Prioritise the defence

Maybe Ole already has put a few bids in for defenders just cos none have signed for us yet doesn't mean we're not chasing any, I think our defence is fine for the championship but a few more won't hurt it's the striking options that needed prioritising

Pleasantly surprised by some of Ole's signings, in that I wasn't expecting his scouting network to be looking in some of the areas that they are. I expected a load of foreigners coming in, if I'm honest.

I've always highly rated Chris Eagles, back to his Man Utd days I could see his talent. I remember him scoring a screamer for Man Utd in a pre-season tour and the following week, Burnley signed him for 300k. I thought he was a fantastic signing for Burnley at the time and I thought with regular games, he would utilise his talent and potential to get back into the Premiership. I remember him tearing Mark Kennedy apart at Ninian Park when McCormack scored those late goals to win us the game and he impressed towards the end of our Championship winning season too, scoring against us.

Why Eagles hasn't gone on to better things I don't know, as the talent is definitely there. I get the impression he only turns it on when he wants to and can be a bit of a luxury player at times. He's torn us apart in the first half and gone anonymous in the second half against us a couple of times. But on a free, you can't turn down a player as talented as Chris Eagles. Even if he doesn't produce for the full 90 minutes, he would be an asset off the bench to run at tiring defenders, add extra width and change the game. Eagles would definitely be a good signing for us on a free.

Cardiff City could swoop for former Manchester United star Chris Eagles
Monday Jun 23, 2014

By Terry Phillips

Eagles played alongside Bluebirds’ manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer under Sir Alex Ferguson and is now a free agent after being released by Bolton

Former Manchester United winger Chris Eagles could be swooping into Cardiff City Stadium.

Eagles played alongside Bluebirds’ manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer under Sir Alex Ferguson, and the two men could be working together again this season.

Cardiff, Middlesbrough and Burnley are all understood to be keen on Eagles, who was released by Bolton Wanderers at the end of last season.

The 28-year-old is an experienced midfield player who signed for Bolton three years ago in a £3m transfer from Burnley.

Eagles impressed for Burnley at Premier League level, and the Lancashire club would love to have him in their squad again.

The task for Solskjaer is to tempt Eagles away from the North of England, where he is settled, to South Wales.

During a three-year stay at Bolton, Eagles made 93 League appearances and scored 17 goals. He had a frustrating 2013-14 campaign, scoring only once in 14 appearances, and was not offered a new contract.
