As a defender I admit to not being Fabio's biggest fan but I did feel that the new system was playing to our strengths and in particular I believed it would see Fabio show his greatest asset, bombing forward.

However once his release clause was activated and less than a year left on his contract, I cannot see how the club, in its current state, could turn down £2m.

I just hope that the club do spend part of that money on new recruits.

If he's worth double that as you're suggesting, how come his release clause was only 2 million?

Well the question is - who made the clause 2mill?
Ken Choo? With respect to the guy, he wouldn't know anything about footballers values, especially a few years ago.
Ole? He bought him I think but I doubt he would have been involved with that.
Personally, I think he's worth more than 2 million. Perhaps more mistakes by the club, the same as we never seem to have any sell on clauses.

There are average footballers in the brazil/Spanish etc league's that have release clauses sky high. In the tens/twentys plus of millions. Release clauses don't mean that's the real value of a player.

Jamie vardy had a release clause of like twenty million when arsenal triggered it.

Hes worth more than twenty million if he bangs in that many goals isn't he.

To be to be fair to Choo he was nowhere near the Club when Fabio signed for us. In any event the level of the release clause would have been subject to negotiation between the player and the club and we were hardly in a position to insist on a huge release figure for a player we were getting on a free. I like Fabio but I think £2 million is a pretty fair price for someone who was not an automatic first choice last season , who is in the last year of his contract and who we cannot afford to keep on current wages..

Poor business by the club when they originally signed him and gave him his contract.

My guess is he signed and made sure we included a low release clause, or at least a low relegation release clause, knowing that he could easily leave for a better team if they wanted him.

One of my favourite players but it's a good deal all round really.

Nice to see us signing players and selling them for a profit again instead of huge losses or paying them up.

Good luck Fabio

Paul Trollope just said about Fabio:

Fabio has been well documented but nothing’s changed, it’s an ongoing process. We don’t want to lose any of the ones that are in the group. But like most clubs players have their prices, perhaps buy out clauses. There’s a few in the club we’re willing to listen to offers for which is well documented and that won’t change between now and end of season.

Fabio on the brink of exit?

Reports from sources close to Boro expect a deal to be wrapped up in the next 48 hours.

I can only go on what I’ve heard but I’m pretty sure this deal will go through at some stage or another.

Middlesbrough have signed Brazilian defender Fabio da Silva from Cardiff City on a two-year contract for £2m, the Premier League side confirmed on Friday.

The left back, whose twin brother Rafael plays for Ligue 1 club Olympique Lyonnais, made 23 appearances for Cardiff in the Championship, the second tier of English football, last season and has won two caps for Brazil.

"We'd like to take this opportunity to thank Fabio for his contribution during his two and a half years at the club," said a statement on the Cardiff City website.

The 26-year-old joined Manchester United from Fluminense in 2008 but struggled to establish himself at Old Trafford, spending a year on loan at Queens Park Rangers before departing for Cardiff in January 2014.

Newly-promoted Middlesbrough have confirmed on their official website the signing of Cardiff City defender Fabio Da Silva for £2m.

Boro boss Aitor Karanka has been busy improving his side ahead of their Premier League campaign, which kicks off with a trip to Stoke City this afternoon.

And former Manchester United defender Fabio will drastically improve the defensive options the Spaniard has at his disposal as Boro look to stay in the league.

Boro fans will remember Fabio from their game against the Bluebirds last season, where the Brazilian dispatched a stunning long range effort infront of the home fans at the Riverside Stadium.

Middlesbrough came out top on that occasion however, and the goal might have gone some way as to persuading Karanka to move for the twice capped Brazilian international.

Fabio has made over 100 appearances in English football for Manchester United, Queens Park Rangers and Cardiff City, and will have a point to prove this season as he gets his chance to play at Old Trafford once again.

Paul Trollope’s Bluebirds opened up their Sky Bet Championship campaign with a 0-0 draw against Birmingham City last weekend, and will hope to get their first win of the season at home to QPR on Sunday.
