Norwich City The latest squad news ahead of Saturday

09/0916

City Team : Wilson, Peltier, Morrison, Connolly, Richards, John, Gunnarsson, Ralls, Immers, Pilkington, Lambert.

Subs : Amos, Manga, Whittingham, Harris, Huws, Noone and Gounongbe.

CAMERON Jerome is one of the Norwich City players set to return from injury for Saturday's meeting with his former club Cardiff City (3pm).

Jerome was a late withdrawal from the squad before the defeat to Birmingham City a fortnight ago, but manager Alex Neil told Norwich City TV on Friday that the striker should be fit to face the Bluebirds.

Ivo Pinto will also come back into the fold, while Alex Pritchard and Graham Dorrans - both of whom came through 45 minutes unscathed for the Under-23s in midweek - look set to be in contention.

On the latter pair Neil said: "They'll be involved in the squad. Their rehab has been slow, which has been frustrating for everyone, but they're getting closer. They got 45 minutes under their belt, which is good."

Goalkeeper John Ruddy is also close to a comeback, but Neil was less positive about Martin Olsson's hopes of appearing at Carrow Road this weekend.

"Both of them have done bits, but with Martin I'm not convinced that he's going to be quite ready for the game," he added. "John should be ok, he's a bit further ahead than Martin, but having said he's not done huge amounts."

Neil reported a clean bill of health for the players who featured for their countries over the international break, but he revealed that new recruit Nelson Oliveira isn't quite up to speed.

He commented: "It's probably too soon for Nelson, but he's getting better. He's training with the squad now, which is good. He hadn't done a huge amount since the end of last season, so we needed to get him up to speed.

"We're pushing him to the limit without breaking him down, so we want to make sure that continues and we can get him fit as soon as possible."

Re: ' LATEST NEWS: NORWICH v CARDIFF CITY UPDATED DAILY '

Norwich City get back to league football tomorrow as they entertain Cardiff City, hoping to put the disappointing Birmingham defeat behind them.

Vital Norwich City

Friday 9th September

As usual, Alex Neil spoke to the media at Colney on Friday lunchtime and gave an update on his squad.

The good news is that there are a number of players back in contention for a recall or seat on the bench for this game.

Alex Pritchard, Graham Dorrans, Cameron Jerome, Ivo Pinto and John Ruddy are all available, leaving Neil with a selection problem.

The return of John Ruddy gives Neil a big choice to make between the sticks, although it seems to me that Michael McGovern hasn't done anything wrong, so is unlikely to be dropped. That injury came at the worst possible time for Ruddy and he now faces the very real prospect of having to play second fiddle to the new keeper, watching from the bench.

You would assume Ivo Pinto would go straight back into the team in place of Steven Whittaker, who had a nightmare afternoon at St. Andrew's last time out. Cameron Jerome is another almost certain starter as it seems unikely that Nelson Oliviera will be ready to start. I'd expect him to be on the bench along with Alex Pritchard who had a great 45 minutes in mid-week for the U23s.

Steven Naismith will need to up his game massively if he is to stave off the challenge offered by the new man. With Wes Hoolahan close to undroppable at the moment, it will be interesting to see if Neil will have the nerve to drop Naismith in the near future.

As it is, Pritchard is unlikely to start but if he comes on an plays well, the clamour from the stands to drop Naismith will quickly escalate.

Other than that, it's as you were with no new injuries or issues reported after the international break.

Match facts

Norwich have only lost one of their last 11 home league games against the Bluebirds, winning seven and drawing three.

Cardiff have scored twice in each of their last three league encounters with the Canaries, but have lost two of those games (2-3 in January 2015 and 2-4 in September 2014), winning the other.

The Canaries have failed to score in seven of their last 11 league games, including last time out against Birmingham.

Cardiff are looking for their first league away win since March, with the Bluebirds failing to win any of their last seven away trips (D4 L3).

Three different players have all contributed two Championship assists for Norwich this season - Jonny Howson, Ivo Pinto and Wes Hoolahan - with Howson and Hoolahan also scoring a goal each.

Cardiff have benefitted from two of the five own-goals scored in the Championship this season, which were both scored by Shane Duffy in their game with Blackburn.

Norwich City host the Bluebirds this Saturday

It's going to have to take some patience from us, the first goal will be crucial"

ALEX Neil says his team are determined to get back to winning ways against Cardiff City this Saturday (3pm).

Norwich got hammered 3-0 at Birmingham City before the international break, but Neil thinks his players will be highly motivated to improve their performance level at Carrow Road.

He told Norwich City TV: "Results-wise we've done ok. Performance-wise, we can get better. Bristol City and Blackburn were the two better performances from us, but other than that we've not performed as well as we'd have liked.

Harris has argubly been our best player seems harsh for him to be benched after his last game .Whitts should start I really don't get the Ralls love in he's not as good as passer as Whitts or nowhere near creative as him.

Would have liked to have seen Harris and Huws in the team ahead of Gunnar and Richards, also Whitts for Ralls. That would make us much more fluid, dynamic and a tad more pacy. Whatever the team, Norwich will be too strong. 3-1 to the Canaries.
